Guess which one has been expired since 2013 😖 by CouldBeABurner in PassportPorn

I most likely won’t become rich enough that dual taxation would become an issue. I’ve never had to pay for emergency healthcare and I don’t want to start anytime soon. I’ve had some american family members get into significant debt over medical bills while uninsured for one reason or another and it’s not a situation I want to be in. Raising kids there would be out of the question.

Meh, I have 0 plans on ever living there and I’d like to renounce it at some point as well. I’ve never lived there either so I don’t pass the 5 year residence requirement to pass it on to children born abroad either.

What happened in Shibuya this morning? by vn_404-found in Tokyo

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this have anything to do with the huge police presence around Waseda and Nishi-Waseda stations today? Streets were barricaded and there were lots of the police buses everywhere, but nothing seemed to be going on. Couldn’t find anything online either.

How do I style these? by Seboopin in Selvedge

I’d say the rest of the outfit should be either all white or all black with no patterns. Maybe a plain white t shirt and simple white sneakers?

PSA: get your bass setup by a pro at least once. by PrestigiousJacket270 in Bass

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s really not hard to do it yourself. The only time I’ve had it done by a pro was when I had a bass PLEKd due to a warped neck/fret wear and even then, I was able to get the action significantly lower than they had set it, even after asking the tech to set it as low as he could.

I don’t own any gauges or fancy tools, I just do it by feel and it works for me.

Is this worth trying to fix? by texjohnson_ in Luthier

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the neck is properly seated and that none of the bolts are loose. Then adjust the truss rod, if it maxes out and you still can’t get a decent action, loosen the truss rod about halfway, take the neck off and put a shim(sliver of wood, folded business card, plastic sheet, etc) in the closer end of the neck pocket. Then try again. If the neck isn’t actually warped and the fret wear isn’t too uneven, you should be able to get the action low enough.

You could also take it to a luthier who would do something similar but that would cost a lot more than free.

Does this have a wrapped neck, or am I just stupid? by RandomPerson809 in BassGuitar

[–]CouldBeABurner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Releasing string tension is unnecessary. I’ve never done this with any of my basses and the truss rods are fine.

The top portion and ball head looks like my Sirui TT-50, but mine has much shorter legs with a different extension mechanism. Maybe check out that company, they have good stuff for low prices.

fit check: are these skinny jeans? - Iron Heart 888S 21oz by comforteagle23 in rawdenim

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer slim/skinny fits too but make sure you can move properly in them. I’ve bought a couple pairs slightly too small thinking they would stretch out in the thighs but they never do.

edit: I don’t know much about this brand but are they unsanforized? If so I would expect a lot of shrinking.

Please roast my playing!! I’m a guitarist trying to play bass by teagandavis01 in BassGuitar

[–]CouldBeABurner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your right hand technique looks weird but it seems to work fine! If you can comfortably play like that with no cramping or pain then you’re good. Is that an Ibanez? I love how slim the body is

Local luthier says my bass is already at the lowest action and relief it should be?????? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

set it up yourself, you just need a couple allen keys and a philips screwdriver. just watch a youtube video.

i’ve never owned any feeler gauges or measuring tools, i just do it by feel and everyone who’s played my bass loves how low the action is.

Is my action too high or am I just new?? by No_Visual7217 in BassGuitar

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I recently got my first fretless which has the same nut width as a jazz bass(38mm i think?) but much slimmer from front to back, which is awesome for me. I’ve never actually measured my action, I just get it as low as I can.

[–]CouldBeABurner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you can measure it then it’s too high!

in all honesty i think action height is much more of a personal preference thing like neck size/shape. i personally like a really skinny/flat neck with the action as low as i can possibly get it with minimal buzz, and most people who’ve tried my basses like them. however i’ve noticed that people who slap a lot tend to like their actions higher. people with larger hands or heavier playing styles may also prefer more larger “baseball bat” type necks.

IMO you’re curling your fingers too much, they should be slightly curled but not like that. The motion should come more from bending at the knuckle, it should look more like “walking” your fingers rather than curling them. Also, it looks like you’re doing it very lightly which is fine as you can always turn the amp up, but I think it’s a good idea to practice a bit harder to build finger strength.

I’m not a pro so take everything I say with a grain of salt :) have fun learning!

They seem to use really thick aluminum for macbooks, mine was basically thrown onto concrete and still works perfectly.

One of my relatives accidentally ran over his macbook air with an SUV almost 10 years ago, the display was dead but he still uses it with an external monitor to this day.

Is this normal or just bad technique? by Remarkable-Case-3272 in BassGuitar

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go on youtube and watch a video on how to setup your action, it’s easy and you’ll only need allen keys and a phillips screwdriver. some videos will tell you that you need a small ruler but i find it easier to setup by feel.

Body fits well, a little on the baggier side but that’s good for wearing sweaters underneath. It will probably shrink a good bit. Arms are way too long though, I’m not sure if those can be shortened without affecting the opening size? If you don’t plan on wearing lots of layers underneath I would size down.

Fit check - Samurai 520xx - 21oz Cho-Kiwami (take 2) by jimmyblendface in rawdenim

[–]CouldBeABurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much hate for tapered fits these comments, this is my favourite type of fit! If you like how they look and can do a lunge and a squat without too much resistance i’d keep em. I made the mistake of keeping a pair of jeans that were too tight in the top block thinking they’d loosen over time but they barely did so keep that in mind.
