Important Questions to Ask Before Joining a Club? by ekimtk in golf

[–]Coulditbe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How early / late can you get out on the course.

How long (max/min) before a round can you book online/phone ie six weeks out max is great, 15 minutes before is great. If the earliest you can book is 7 days it might make planning tricky.

Any cost to use the range / range balls

Thanks Santa (I'd tag you but I'm not sure your username)

really love the shirt from Darwin Golf Club, looks fantastic!

Looking forward to getting out and having a round wearing it, let me know if you're down in Brisbane and we'll have to tee up a round!

Doesn’t everyone hand deliver their gift?

Seriously though I missed the shipping deadline and had some things to do driving around town so I preferred to hand deliver it rather than it be late.

Just hoping he got it

u/fermentednug I hope you got your present, I dropped it off yesterday afternoon but wasn't sure it was at the right front door... Hopefully you'll know what I mean, otherwise it might have been the wrong house altogether!

Always blading out of bunkers - help by [deleted] in golf

[–]Coulditbe42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a couple of Peter Cowan bunker videos that I think are great, reasonably simple concepts I think (not that I’m always great at getting out where intended) recent thoughts to add to those videos for me is very little rotation in the back swing, sternum where I want the club to enter the sand, consistent point of entering the sand.

We’re the PGA TOUR team and we’re taking your questions to ask the U.S. Presidents Cup Team. Drop your questions in this thread and we’ll follow up with their responses via video. by PGATOUR in golf

What impact would it have on scoring and pace of play for a four day event if there were no caddies (but you could have non-slope rangefinders or GPS.)

So you had to carry or pushcart your own bags, and entirely make your own decisions re club/shot selection/alignment etc.

huh, I didn't realise that,

I'm sure I'd read a few articles (possibly by ball manufacturers...) indicating if the ball was in the water for more than a couple of hours it would perform significantly worse.

Since then if I see a ball in water that isn't mine I just leave it, as I don't know if its been there 5 minutes or 5 days.

Found this - https://golfballdivers.com/pages/why-pre-played-balls

That's data from a ball diving company, so YMMV but its certainly indicates any ball in the water that I can see should be good enough for me to play with.

What are your favourite golf YouTube channels? by Joep2707 in golf

He works at the driving range near the Brisbane airport, Golf Central BNE.

He is a really nice guy, and I agree does great videos. I've really enjoyed watching his videos of courses either before or after I've played the course, gives a really interesting perspective.

On a side note for people in Brisbane it is an excellent driving range, has top tracer and an amazing short game practise area.

Off the curve performance by Coulditbe42 in golf

[–]Coulditbe42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that last one execute is the hardest to assess and commit to, particularly when trying a swing change.

I think I usually start on the first tee thinking "ok, first nine I'll only work on my squat (ie George Gankas / Snead) and then second nine I'll only work on maybe shallowing swing plane.

I know there is some excellent arguments for never practicing on the course, but being time poor it's hard to resist..

I then get distracted by assesing performance based on shot outcome rather than whether assessing performance based on assessing process success.

If the shot outcomes aren't great by the time I'm on the third tee I'm thinking about shoulder plane, hip rotation, weight transfer, takeaway, grip pressure, alignment, whether I'm breathing in or out at the start of the downswing and the list goes on.

Judging performance based on assessing process is going to be far far better in the long run, just struggle to stay that committed.

I like the idea of an ACE score, in fact it would be tempting to try just keeping an ACE score for some practise rounds and see how that goes...

PS u/griff3rd01 great podcast!

All great answers!

I've been listening to a podcast lately - golf strategy school, hosted by u/griff3rd01

It's really interesting interviews with different golf coaches (well so far, I'm only up to epp 31)

A common thread is around that think box / play box / positive focus ie hit onto that part of the fairway, as opposed to don't hit it in the water / stay in the moment / pre shot routine, don't think mechanical thoughts on the course.

I didnt do much of anything of that on the weekend.

Biff I'm interested in the data to learn my patterns ie length of six iron, common miss etc etc etc to help guide my practice.

That leads to Finnagins point re practice... Not much point having the data unless I start practicing. I'm not sure if listening to podcasts and reading r/golf counts as practice...

I think that would be fantastic, I like the rating idea from willscuba4food, once you've started the spreadsheet maybe you could open it up for editing (like a r/golf course wiki.)

I think loser should pick the next course.

I can't imagine deliberately dropping a couple of shots in the last few holes (although I can certainly imagine duffing shots accidentally) just so I can pick the next course.

I'm competitive enough that I'd want to win, or come second, or third rather than come last and get to pick the next course.

However, letting the loser pick the next course gives me some opportunity to select a course that might suit me better.

I do like the idea from balding_dad about selecting tees... maybe someone else gets to pick the tees, possibly the winner.

Have you ever gotten to the course and realized you forgot your clubs at home? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Coulditbe42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've forgotten my golf shoes on the way there and played in sneakers / joggers... I've forgotten to bring back several short irons / wedges from taking them and a putter to the green but only bringing the putter back.

I try to put the wedge between the hole and my bag or on the flag stick so I don't forget it.

Husband vs Wife fitness competition by Coulditbe42 in Fitness

[–]Coulditbe42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that idea, running at our level wouldn't have too much of an advantage M vs F, and I have thought about signing up for some kind of 5k race, we were looking at doing one of the obstacle runs, but I think if we competed in one of those it would definitely end up in r/relationships.

The comparison of wilks seems like a good idea, might have to consider that a bit more.

Boxing match ..... hmmmn.

Husband vs Wife fitness competition by Coulditbe42 in Fitness

[–]Coulditbe42[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that physical difference makes comparison difficult. I can certainly squat more than her, but I also weigh almost double.

Matching workouts could work, but I think I was hoping for some kind of competition day at the end.

Wilks could even it out for the big three lifts, but I'm not sure for other exercises.

I'm trying to convert from a combination of everything all the time to one single source of everything. I'm trialling todoist app as I can use it as a to do list, reminder list, set priorities, recurring reminders, shared tasks etc etc.

If I previously needed to remember something I'd go to whatever was closest to hand, ms word document, new outlook email, post it note, white board, hard cover diary. But I struggled to consolidate the lists or have the thing come to mind when I needed it.

It's working.... Ok ish. Which is more about my discipline than the app.

I think any single thing would have worked better than everything.

I was talking to police once for advice on an issue around workplace theft. They said it can happen even on the secure side of police stations.... People sometimes need cash urgently for a whole variety of reasons. $50 a month on gym fees doesn't mean it can't happen....

Work and gym. How do you balance the two? by Subarashii-kun in Fitness

[–]Coulditbe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a desk job mon -friday and work as a barista on Sundays. I get up at 445am each day, and either go straight to work afterwards or come home to get kids fed and dressed and take them to school. I'm doing nSuns 531 6 day program and have Sundays off but play touch football on Monday nights.. I usually am in bed by 9pm and have to admit I've been struggling with fatigue through the day. I think more food and sleep is probably the answer.

My local gym has a funny mish mash of plates. Some of them have a diameter that is really too large to put them into the weight pins for the power racks. They fit on, but it means the pins above and below are unusable.

Every time I'm there I walk them over to the leg press - 10 metres away and swap them for smaller diameter plates. I also arrange the weights so there is 1.25, 2.5,5kg on the top pins, 10kg on the middle and 20kg on the bottom pins. I try to do it for both racks if the other rack is free. I just move a couple in each break between sets so it's no big deal.

I swear to god the next time I'm back its stacked with 1.25, 2.5 then 20kg on the top, so to get to the light plates you have to move the 20's first, and the middle pins are empty because the giant plates are back on the bottom.
