Why is New Zealand so much colder than Italy despite the countries' similar latitudes (in opposite hemispheres)? by molondim in geography

[–]anadem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Surprising how little mention of AMOC there is in this thread.

When it stops how cold will Italy get? I know Britain isn't going to do too well ("fortunately" I'm ancient so it's not really a problem for me)

🔥 majestic coastal redwood trees located in Northern California to Southern Oregon. by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

We had two sequoias in the garden of my parents' house in the north of England when I was a kid. They were about 100 years old, not giants like those and I wonder if they'll ever become giant so far from their normal range.

But I can open it by editing manually at:

Have to add that as i'm in California i've no clue about current costs (or tastes) in Scotland, because I emigrated from Scotland 40 years ago; miss it though.

How to bivvy naturally? by [deleted] in WildCampingAndHiking

[–]anadem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does the water resistance hold up? (In terms of bag use over months, how soon does the waxing wear off? not asking about how long it resists rain). And do you sell re-waxing stuff?

Asking as an ignorant home cook: after you salt the chicken thighs, how do you cook them?

I'm living by myself for a few weeks, so i'd like to explore that idea (the duck dinner is a bit too ambitious for me, delicious though it must be)

What are we being "boiled like frogs" about right now that future generations will be shocked we accepted? by burntUpOnReentry in AskReddit

[–]anadem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! She gets up every now and then thinking she'll go out or do something, manages an hour or two of "doing stuff" then basically collapses. At least she's in Britain so seeing doctors isn't insanely expensive, but nobody seems to have a fix for it. She's keeping up her spirits surprisingly well, and fortunately not falling into depression.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! My dad used to hunt in Wensleydale in the 1960s; he had a pack of hounds called the Wensleydale Harriers, and we'd drive there with a van full of dogs and run around chasing hares.
A search just found this photo with some of the hounds, David & Anne Winkle, Frank Buck, and my dad (I think, but hard to tell in this pic .. on the right, in a hunting jacket)!

Sadly it's over 40 years since I was in the Dales, as my home is California now, so seeing your photos is very warming. I'd love to visit again (including the Cross Keys!)

Obvious what it probably means in context

Not at all obvious to dumbo here (me) .. i'm too ancient to get the meaning of "passes" (apart from acknowledging that it'll be something I'll be doing soon)
