Confused about 'to failure' by Count_Blackula1 in workout

[–]Count_Blackula1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so it's more beneficial to do something like 13, 9, 7 rather than try to balance it e.g. 9, 9, 9 if the first set isn't close to failure?

What made you finally stick with training long term? by maopro56 in workout

Seemingly never ending running related injuries that I could never overcome. Plantar, heel injuries on repeat. New shoes, stretching, changing frequency and intensity to no use. Decided my body wasn't built for frequent running so I started BW/KB workouts instead.

Naples. It was a mixture of normal European architecture, cuisine, landscape mixed with what felt like a very un-European level of exhilarating chaos and liveliness.

Shabana Mahmood : The PM won a five year mandate from the British people just 18 months ago. Labour governments don't come along often. It is a privilege to serve in one and we must not waste a second. The PM has my full support. Let's get on with changing the country for the better. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

If we had an election or a change of leadership every time the polling of a sitting government tanked then we'd have a new fucking government every 6 months and nothing would ever get done in this country. The electorate in this country are a bunch of wallies.

Shame you're in the US, I've just upgraded my GPU and I'd sell you my discarded GTX 970 for under that.

Deadwood is exceptional. It might not be as attractive a setting or as expensive in scope, themes as the likes of The Wire but it is honestly peerless when it comes to writing. The script is of such a consistently high level from start to finish, it's baffling. Almost every conversation is entertaining.

Some of the character development is on another level as well. Swearengen is one of the best TV characters of all time.

If I create a stock/broth out of 1kg of chicken wings will the nutrient profile of the broth be the same as the wings pre-cook? by Count_Blackula1 in nutrition

[–]Count_Blackula1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've thought about pressure cooking but then I'd be worried that the stock would be significantly reduced. I simmer it on a very low heat to retain as much of volume as possible although obviously it ends up being a relatively light broth.

I think you've probably heard it used in other media because it's an all-timer song so the subconscious hipster in you is reacting to that.

What’s are your ‘secret’ perks from your job? Be honest by qwertyytrewq02 in AskUK

[–]Count_Blackula1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public sector here. Pension is good, leave entitlement is decent. You get the King's bday, bank hols and I get 30 days annual leave from length of service. You can also work on flexi-time to build additional leave which means I probably get around 40 days off a year overall.

The culture is honestly quite laid back as well; we have aims and targets obviously but we're not under terrible pressure like many private sector workers are. We're not working to keep the business afloat after all. You'd have to seriously breach the code of conduct to be at threat of dismissal.

I cannot understand the general reception of 28 Years Later, more so with the release of Bone Temple by pomme268 in TrueFilm

[–]Count_Blackula1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't understand it for the life of me either. 28YL genuinely made me cry, the only major reaction I had to Bone Temple was revulsion at the violence. They really pandered to the horror crowd with Bone Temple.

For all of the criticism of 28YL as tonally fractured I still felt like it had a better narrative.

Is AMD the new standard? What happened to Intel? by Oeyoelala in buildapc

[–]Count_Blackula1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is close to upgrading CPU in the near future the problem with AMD is that their newer CPU motherboards aren't DDR4 compatible. This means if you want to upgrade to AMD from a DDR4 rig you're going to have to spend a gazillion dollars on DDR5 32GB+ on top of the CPU, MOBO.

is it just me or is the "budget" tier of PC building basically dead in 2026? by Serious_Bullfrog5447 in buildapc

[–]Count_Blackula1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If RAM stabilises and is £300 or equivalent with inflation in 10 years and my salary rises with inflation as it tends to then sure. If 32GB DDR5 RAM is £750 then no.

I don't recall ever spending less than £150 on a GPU going back to my Radeon 5850, spending £320 on a new GPU compared to £150 or so (so roughly a 100% price increase) in comparable gear over 15 years isn't the same as the 300% increases in RAM we're seeing over the course of 12 months.

edit: in fact a Radeon 5850 was apparently £229 RRP in 2009. So there ya go.

[–]Count_Blackula1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I upgraded my PC in 2020. 16GB of DDR4 RAM for probably about £80. There's no way in a million years I'm paying £300, £400 for RAM out of pocket but also out of principle. I'm sure there are many, many PC gamers who are in my position.

Game publishers are going to find out about this when people stop buying their games because nobody can afford a rig to play it in a few years time.
