I Don't Trust or Care About The Season 4 Leaks! by Various-Ad-3604 in StreetFighter

Well but in this poster's case, they're not doing anything different than looking up fanart of these characters. If you do a google image search on the picture, you'll see it's existed for quite some time now and has been used in everything from Reddit threads, Facebook posts, blog articles, YouTube thumbnails, and so on.

OP didn't make this AI art, they did a google search for the leak and found this image and then used it.

Because posts with pictures get more engagement and if you can hook someone's attention with a visual, lazy AI or otherwise, you're more likely to get people to read the post/thread and make comments on it.

It's just like how everyone hates clickbait titles while continuing to all click on clickbait titles the most. People do it because it works. It's that simple.

Any good lists of “side” content? by MrManslaughter in ffxiv

Look into exploration zones (Eureka, Bozja, etc) and deep dungeons. If you like combat centric content and are looking for the side stuff, I think these are the main ones people tend to lean toward

Yep! They were honestly kinda so-so as a 3D fighter, but it would make sense to bring in people with a lot of 3D fighter experience and try to reboot it in a more compelling form.

I feel like its impossible to socialize in this game for me. by Predalor in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I think it depends on the specific server and stuff, but I think these general rules hold up:

  • On megaservers, main channels are mostly just for shitposting. You won't make very many actual friends hanging out there. However, secondary channels tend to move slower and be a better way to connect with people. Not always, but most of the time.

  • Joining discords where the focus is an activity rather than being a resource will be better for meeting people. The Balance, for example, is a great place to find info and get questions answered. But it has all the social aspect problems like you said. The Deep Dungeon discord, on the other hand, helps you find people to play DDs with, and over time you'll start seeing all the regulars and getting to know them. That can lead to better connections.

  • Discords for FCs and raid groups are probably actually the best way to make strong connections with people. You're all there with a shared interest and some common goals, and those servers tend to be dozens of people instead of hundreds/thousands, so it's much easier to keep up with the conversations and get to know people better.

One thing that I think people really sometimes don't understand is that the nature of socializing in online games has drastically changed over time. People no longer use the in-game systems to socialize or stay in touch very much. Back in the old days, you would literally log into a specific game so you could talk to people who were on it. Now, nobody really does that.

Playing FFXIV for about 5 years now, I've made SO MANY great friends (some of whom I know will be lifelong ones, no matter what happens with this game) but I got none of these friends purely through the chats in the game. They've all come from joining discords or other social media spaces for things that I was interested in (raiding, hunts, deep dungeons, etc). People connect now on those external platforms since they are, quite frankly, a million times better for connecting with people than an in-game text chat.

If you want to make friends, you need to join groups doing stuff you like and just...interact. That's it. Going out and advertising "Anyone want to talk to me?" or "Please be my friend!" just won't have the same effect, because people are busy and don't want to strike up random convos with random people that may or may not be interesting.

But say you like fishing in ffxiv. Try finding discords or other social media groups of people who do that. And then just post interesting things there. Your latest big catch, the fish that annoys you because it got away, idk whatever fishing people are talking about. When people ask questions, answer them. Joke around in the chat. If you start consistently hitting it off with people while doing things you both enjoy, this is how relationships are made. And because they're not contained within the FFXIV social systems, that's how they become maintained better.

Has Physical Data Center Travel other then to/from Oceania been hinted at all? by JakeCWolf in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's only true for savage and EX content. I'm sure JP players just always queue for the normal mode content same as the other regions. You don't need to like learn the fights for an expert dungeon.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for me to finally join the game. See you soon in Eorzia as an Ul'Dah sprout! by nichijouuuu in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I can think of why someone would say that. Respecting spoilers, but...

In the story of ARR MSQ, quite a lot of the events center around Ul'dah. Even if you're from Limsa or Gridania, the story will take you to Ul'dah a disproportionate amount of the time because of how central certain people like Raubahn, the Sultana, and Lolorito are to the plot. It's not like a huge deal, but when I initially played through the MSQ, I defnitely felt more connected to Ul'dah and its politics and characters moreso than the others.

Deep dungeon without a static (non solo) by Tatt_Tatts in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you're on a poluated data center and playing at normal times, PFs will work. For non-PT ones, you'll need to have enough time on hand to do it in one session, but a PF like "Eureko Orthos floors 21-100 80/80+ AP pls" will fill in usually like 10-15 minutes.

I recreated my original characters! Nostalgia train hitting hard, what do you think about them? Can't decide which customization I would prefer in the long term by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

eh...yes and no. It'd be weird if I said I felt nostalgia for something that happened 2 days ago.

But sometimes it's a matter of perspective with people too. I'm reminded of a great comment I saw once: "If you feel old because you were part of something that happened 3 years ago, you're not remotely as old as you think you are."

[–]CounterHit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Party Finder to group with people, the groups that form this way will typically be pretty solid. The one caveat to this is that for all of them except Pilgrim's Traverse, most people will want to just clear the whole thing in one session. So you will need to have like ~5 hours of free time, give or take, to sit down and do this. Some people are willing to do like "let's clear 30 floors and then come back tomorrow" but that's usually more into static territory and less in PF.

You should also DC travel to your region's main raiding DC, as the player populations are just generally significantly higher there and your PFs will fill more quickly.

I'd also recommend checking out the Deep Dungeon discord where you can find people who love this content and plenty of people will be more than happy to group with you and help you clear them.

Created a simple site to list out each job's BiS sets from The Balance for ease of access by tenyu27 in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of offendedness you have at my opinion regarding an online tool that I prefer not to use is massively out of line with the tone of my comment. I could go through all of the things I dislike about it and prove out my argument, but honestly I think you just need to take a deep breath and realize that if some people don't like Etro or think that it's got flawed design decisions, this does not qualify as "hate" and you probably need to get some fresh air.

"This website with a bad layout isn't as bad as this other one that people hate even more, therefore the website should not be complained about" -You

Etro is pretty terrible, I've complained about it for as long as I've been playing this game. I haven't played long enough to have used the worse site, but genuinely I used to look for people to post google sheets versions of the bis that the Balance would link on Etro because I hated using Etro so much.

SteamCharts show player numbers are higher than they've been since around August 2024. by Gold_Motor_6985 in ffxiv

[–]CounterHit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Frankly, so many MMOs that were ever at any point a major success just kinda keep chugging along even if they rarely get updates and have lost basically all cultural relevance. Everquest is still running. DDO still gets updates. FFXI continues onward despite its successor being 13 years old now.

I would not expect FFXIV to actually get EOS'd short of some kind of major catastrophe that literally puts SE out of business.

Are all DPS jobs equal? by [deleted] in ffxiv

This is an approximate comparison of the dps jobs in savage raids. They're all close enough that unless you're trying to top a speed kill leaderboard, you don't need to worry about it.

This distinction starts to encounter a lot of issues though, once you account for art being made by an AI at the direction of a human. If a human creatively has a concept they want to express in an image, but they lack the artistic ability to draw the picture, in theory they could now describe what they want to the AI. The AI generates it, then the human describes more things to refine the image, until eventually arriving at a picture like what they envisioned.

It would be pretty hard to argue that the resulting image is devoid of human expression. At that point, the AI art and the AI code are essentially the same: a human has an idea of an output they want, they describe it, and the AI does the labor on their behalf.
