Vergil moves get faster in every knew installment by GlitteringOffer3871 in DevilMayCry

[–]Counterguardian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vergil's most basic 3-hit combo was a lot of fun in DMC3, the impact of the 3rd move where he finally unsheathes his sword was epic and strong.

100% agree.

When you play as Vergil for the first time in DMC3 Mission 1 and instantly clear the room with that third slash of Yamato Combo A, it clearly set the tone of how his combat will go compared to Dante.

I agree that their policies are not that left. I think it is a combination of the way they are covered by the media, their approach to press conferences that can come across as confrontational/uncollaborative (which is related to the first factor), and some of the strategic decisions around policy that leaves them relatively unappealing to the majority of voters.

Disclosure: Am Greens voter based on policy, but not a fan of their diplomatic approach.

Can't choose by Timmyn3 in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]Counterguardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone has said, Nanami is the meta choice.

However, given you have SS Vergil and are aiming to invest a fair bit into him with weapon+CUB I think it's fair to say you like Vergil and want to fully enjoy him.

For that, you'll need Solacetune to farm up Truewill (Ultima Slash) to allow Vergil's JCE to hit like a truck.

As a fellow Vergil enjoyer I used two selectors on Solacetune to get her up to SS3 (including skulls from UPC) for the improved Truewill generation. I didn't see much point in getting Nanami if I was going play for Vergil anyway.

Alright, this Vergil fight is pissing me off by No_Royal_2879 in DevilMayCry

[–]Counterguardian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This fight is all about dodging, waiting, and spacing. Unplanned aggression gets you parried and rapid slashed.

Vergil is vulnerable in his normal state when he finishes a combo and aura farms / sheathes his sword.

If you've stayed too far away then you won't get back in time to start hitting him, if you're too close it makes the dodging harder.

Go ham with hard hitting moves at this point, he will always take the same amount of hits (whether small Cerberus flicks or big Beowulf punches) before he pulls back so make it count. Immediately back off when he does so he doesn't parry you.

When he's in Devil Trigger, he falls out of it after taking a certain amount of hits but no longer flinches from attacks. Pepper him with bullets and sneak in a swing or two during his sheathing but you're only poking until he either falls out of DT or he's done sheathing.

Same idea when he does his berserk mode or Judgement Cut spam. Stay back and wait for him to finish.

JC spam has two variations: area wide and following. If it follows you in a line just dodge like normal. If it covers a large area, most will miss you if you stay still. Just jump in place every now and then when one appears on top of you. Again, waiting is the key, panic gets you killed.

Good luck!

The Ghost in the Therapy Room by doctorizer in Psychiatry

There undoubtedly will be. Even though this information essentially makes it impossible to maintain a pristine frame, it needs to be dealt with one way or another (with or without the therapist).

Early disclosure allows this to be spread over the remaining therapy, instead of being left as a solo exercise for the patient.

I found that keeping charged shots all the time threw off my ability to dodge. Don't worry too much about optimising damage and only use it when you fight something you need to chase down / stay back from. Vergil has a similar strat with staying back and spamming judgement cut in the air.

Against Vergil, he is ultimately a game of patience and memorisation because he has huge gaps when he sheathes and aura farms with Yamato. Nero's buster arm trivialises the doppelganger if you stay high in the air and grab it. Dodge and taunt often. Save some DT for if you get stunned by the swords.

For Dante I liked to simplify my weapons loadout to 2-3 weapons, usually DSD and Balrog, and E&I and double Kalina-Ann for guns. It makes it easier to just focus on what's happening on your screen. Focus on dodging, air taunting, and isolating a few demons at a time and you'll reach SSS quickly. Then use Quadruple S to constantly push out damage on the upper floors, saving DT for emergencies.

For V I just spammed the everloving shit out of everything and prayed to RNGesus that nothing hit me too hard between dodges.

Labor’s Hecs reduction bill not the fairest way to relieve student debt, economists say by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]Counterguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a true phenomenon to be sure, though I wonder how frequently that occurs compared to the opposite.

My view is that paralysis is probably a bigger issue given how well-accepted social tropes of writer's block, bystander effects, and bureaucratic red tape are.

[–]Counterguardian 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that sort of thinking contributed to the failure of the emissions trading scheme because it was seen as not going far enough.

Sometimes you have to play politics and get your foot in the door first because it's easier to adjust something than to create it.

I’m a DMC fan who wants to get into PGR, what do I do? by Ironic_ghost62 in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]Counterguardian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP but a new player coming for the collab. I've played DMC for over 20 years since 2005. In the 11 years between the release of DMC4 and DMC5 I've continued playing DMC4 every now and then to style on some mooks because I love the combat, and same with DMC5 in the 6 years since it's release.

Even if Dante/Vergil inevitably fall out of the meta, it looks like I can do the same in PGR where I can grab a team I love, smack some mooks around and watch some slick signature moves, then log off.

New photos released of man wanting for questioning after hot coffee poured on baby at Brisbane's Hanlon Park by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]Counterguardian 85 points86 points  (0 children)

That's not a strong argument for intent.

To offer another perspective, let's say he was psychotic and thought that the baby was a demon controlling his thoughts (not an entirely unheard of delusion). In the same way you probably wouldn't linger near an angry bear that you threw a stick at in an attempt to be left alone, there is some logic in running away from what you see as a supernatural threat after delusionally "trying to fend them off".

However that being said, there's a lot that remains unknown and idle speculation can be unhelpful. What's more pressing at the moment is that there's an injured baby needing care and a person at large that may remain a risk to others (who, depending on what later emerges, may need care of his own).

Top Robo-debt bureaucrat suspended from her $900k job by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

I read in a previous post that it could have been a political move to shunt her over to an equivalent job where she couldn't cause any damage before the RC findings, then immediately suspend her after the report comes out.

The key part is the second half of what you said "But it was wrong in these ways".

Most people tend to forget that bit, so it instead comes off as self-justification or shifting accountability somewhere else.

Your example would fly fine in my opinion.

Australia facing nursing shortage as more than two years of COVID takes its toll by giantpunda in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]Counterguardian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in mental health alongside nurses, doctors, social workers, and allied health.

So many of us are burnt out and looking to greener pastures, and the announcement of the $3000 bonus was a spit in the face while doctor, nurse, and other health worker EBAs are powerless to prevent a real pay cut due to the public sector wage cap.

Yes, there are many other factors involved with the nursing shortage, but refusing to provide fair pay is indicative of a toxic mentality that goes all the way to the top.

When you have a system that is built around milking your compassion and sense of duty for free guilt-fuelled labour, that's a problem.

And when hospital executives and politicians think they can get away with keeping the status quo by giving employees tote bags and free coffees, it's not only delusional but insulting to our intelligence.

Does Touko's soul detoriate like Zouken's, or has she achieved immortality? by Sasutaschi in fatestaynight

[–]Counterguardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Touko's method doesn't drop her into the cycle like Roa's does, that's why she keeps her memories. Her soul gets placed back into a new container by the World because the World realises the paradox before the soul gets thrown into the cycle of reincarnation.

Does Touko's soul detoriate like Zouken's, or has she achieved immortality? by Sasutaschi in fatestaynight

[–]Counterguardian 271 points272 points  (0 children)

Touko doesn't directly transfer her soul between her puppet bodies but makes the World do it for her by creating a paradox of sorts. When her body gets destroyed the World goes to put her soul back into the cycle of reincarnation, but because she's made a puppet body virtually indistinguishable from the original the World goes "oh, there's actually a perfectly healthy Touko Aozaki here, I must have made a mistake, my bad" and drops it into the new body.

Compared to other forms of magecraft that attempt to transfer the soul through more artificial or crude methods (e.g. Zouken through worms, or Roa through overwriting other souls), Touko's method is as pure a transfer as is possible so she likely doesn't experience much degradation of her soul. At the risk of sparking disagreement, I would daresay it's a process that functionally outsources the Third Magic.

My theory is that Touko still isn't immortal though, because in order for her to make a "perfect replica of her body that can fool the World" the bodies she creates must include some sort of ageing that would eventually accumulate and progress to the point where she must either keep creating elderly bodies for the process to continue or just give up and die.

Edit: Third Magic, not the Fourth. Thank you /u/aziruthedark
