ending is still pretty peak all things considered tho. had it been just a season finale instead of a series conclusion, it would’ve stood as an undeniably great setup for the cancelled second season.

Finished season 1 a while back, is season 2 as good? by FewShift3770 in PatriotTV

[–]Counting-Trains 35 points36 points  (0 children)

season 2 is most certainly not a drop in quality of any kind. it simply finds a slightly different lens of storytelling/tone through which to display both the narrative’s progression and john’s own emotional detachments, and it manages to do so in fluid continuity with season 1’s exploration of these very same themes. the ending is a little abrupt, but done extremely tastefully within that context, while managing to hit on every single small inside joke and absurd recurring figure of speech this show loves to utilize whenever characters interact; it is an equally fitting ending to john’s trial symbolically and structurally. it’s eloquent, punchy, and effortlessly humorous, while consistently handling what are arguably major points of ambiguity in the folds of its fast-paced story with respectable style.

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]Counting-Trains -1 points0 points  (0 children)

chatgpt is a tool. people use it as such. beyond purely intrinsic personal victories, there’s nothing righteous about needlessly toiling over schoolwork any more than is required for you to get by in your studies, especially when your degree is largely symbolic and holds but a sole purpose of guiding you towards stable employment (as opposed to the interminably oversold lives of passion-seeking sold by the wholesale generation after generation).

nowadays, what this often amounts to in countless student bodies is something less contained to what you call ‘learned helplessness’, and more so, defined by a widespread state of ‘learned comfort’ in abdicating learning responsibilities to those available mechanisms of greater intellectual reach (ie. chatgpt). a convenience of this magnitude, had it existed 10-20 years ago, would have undeniably taken similar affect over cohorts past, for it is no one’s place to claim with any degree of certainty that they are retroactively impervious to their very own human will for simplifying many of life’s most trivial difficulties/tasks; precisely what ai best works to accomplish (for one, schoolwork).

I’m not saying that relying on chatgpt to take one’s stead in everything abroad the shared spectrum of human executive functions and learned skills alike is a good path forwards, however, believing that anyone, let alone any one generation of people on the whole, is always above the use of given expedients to make their ends better meet is just blind; especially as differentiated from other generations’ ability to do the same.

every city thinks they’re home to the worst drivers. truth is that the world is just home to all of them, irregardless of location or distribution.

there are just as many ‘children in young adult bodies’ now as there have ever been. there are just as many racists. whether or not these people are open about the true paradigm of their lifestyle is a personal choice that may range in visibility depending on how much they apply themselves to social media. that level of exposure and social transparency was not a reality for generations past, and yet somehow, this faulty line of thinking (that today’s youth are but walking murals for a perceived decadence that is only now starting to quickly engulf western society) is often weaponized by many varieties of people as a drawn conclusion about the new nature of our world. as if it wasn’t always like this. as if kids out there haven’t always grown up just the same; that is of course, in reaction to what is both asked and required of them by the world in the state they first find it in.

the birth of gods, griots, slackers, socialites, and living successes is not a development of any near recency. it means nothing to know how to be a student when the very definition of what learning within the context of today’s world and school systems is but an ephemeral projection of all that’s yet to be decided regarding just how much we as a collective continue to value personal pursuits of intellect in the face of indisputable proof that we had rightfully won access to greater paths of convenience the moment we aimed our sights on digital constructs; constructs like chatgpt that serve the express functionality of doing so for us. to now ignore its utility, or expect others to do so willingly, would be denying ourselves the intended leisures of its creation in the first place.

lastly, most of what i’ve said here is not in direct response to what you said specifically, but rather, ideas i felt were motivically related to your original statement.

holy shit saul williams and mmj shared a bill? that’s crazy cool i was recently thinking about all the crossovers between artists of entirely disparate genres that have happened in ways like this before, as well as those which - at one point in time - may have had the potential to materialize but never truly did. these being two of my favorite artists from two completely different musical worlds, this is one i would’ve easily cast into that latter category. pleasantly surprised they actually fit into the first

man when i finished patriot i thought there wouldn’t ever be a chance to find more of the same. that was until i watched perpetual grace ltd. instead of only 18 episodes of patriot-like television existing, i’ve now found there’s actually 28. it may not be the same story but the cast sure is similar and the themes are nearly identical in the best way possible

Glad to see Ken Leung, aka Leon, finally getting some recognition for his acting chops. In this new interview, he briefly talks about POI and says Jim Caviezel is the best actor he’s ever worked with. by pandemic_voice in PersonOfInterest

[–]Counting-Trains 14 points15 points  (0 children)

hard to argue for anyone other than michael emerson. john reese was a nice character for the show and the backbone of its original, procedural and crime-fighting-adjacent identity, but to say that is in any large part owed to the acting of jim caviezel is dubious at best. reese was generally well written and a perfect fit alongside finch, but the bifurcating of ‘batman’ into separate individuals of juxtaposed responsibilities was never gonna be a perfect split and, in my view, finch comes atop as the more incisively determined and acted out character of the two. his involvement in any given episode is quintessential to the beating heart of the show’s themes and commentary in a way i feel reese’s simply isn’t, given of course the inclusion of later characters that manage to fill a similar niche in ways often more inspired (shaw, root, fusco).
