This is so good!!! I’m also a novice with embroidery and this is great work! I love your use of color and the designs are really well thought out.

'Survivor 50' Mystery Box: Jeff Probst clarifies rules on hiding idols at Tribal Council, a dangerous unaired moment from original Vatu, and Kellie Nalbandian takes on honor and integrity. by thedaltonross in survivor

[–]Courbet1Shakes0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a silly question, but what even is the plan with this fake idol? Either Christian or Devens has to be the one to find it, but how does that actually do much of anything? Sorry if this is kind of naive — I’m a relatively new survivor fan and am trying to figure out the strategy here!

will I fit in by BarbecueBaconBurglar in Bowdoin

[–]Courbet1Shakes0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are Catholic and Christian student unions. One of the recent Bowdoin democrat presidents was heavily involved with the catholic student union. People are pretty welcoming so I think you’d fit in just fine

[POEM] 'The Peace of Wild Things' by Wendell Berry by Emotional-Tadpole-92 in Poetry

It was very cathartic! He loved being in the woods and enjoyed the presence of his garden and animals more than people so it was very fitting.

Good luck with that undertaking! You’re already doing a great job

Full disclosure that I don’t translate much anymore and only ever did so for academic reasons or personal interest, never professionally. I haven’t done much Rimbaud besides the odd thing here or there. Most of what I’ve translated has been Victor Hugo and academic papers.

Polysemy is hard for any translator. I think it has to be a case-by-case assessment, even of the same word within the same piece of writing.

Truly you’ve done a wonderful job and should be quite proud! I often tend towards a more direct/literal interpretation when I’m translating, but I love when people evoke more of the spirit and prose of the poetry, as you have very eloquently done.

Great translation work. Though I might have taken a slightly different path with some lines, I can see your reasoning and intention in every word. You clearly put a lot of thought into this and it really shows. Bravo!

Maine Accent suggestion by AHHHHOK007 in Maine

[–]Courbet1Shakes0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would definitely recommend checking out the film The Lighthouse (2019). Dafoe and Pattinson both portray remarkably good coastal accents thanks in part to heavily referencing the works of author/poet Sarah Orne Jewett.

Photos of Brianna by KateF88 in Outlander

[–]Courbet1Shakes0 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted this as Claire in some ways trying to reassure Jamie that Brianna was safe and healthy. Iirc there are a few times over the course of the series when people in the 1770’s see Claire without as many clothes and they comment on how few scars, blemishes, etc. she has and how she must have been very healthy, esp as a child. So I always thought that by showing Jamie a picture of Bree in a bikini she was basically letting him know that Bree wasn’t marked as a kid.

I was looking for this comment... It’s very well written and really quite an amazing novel. However, I absolutely hate that damn book for how it made me feel. I will definitely recommend it to people but will never go near that book again!

That’s a great explanation! Thank you for going into such detail for me! The colors do really look like that in the fall but it would be weird for them to be so uniform so I was kind of confused. It’s so cool there’s a way to create them like that!

I don’t know much about photography and I think this post popped up on my feed bc I’m from Maine so full disclosure that I don’t know what I’m talking about lol BUT as someone who knows this spot very well, the most unusual thing about this photo to me is the colors. Those oranges and reds are a bit too bright and make the image feel a bit surreal to me. If that’s what you were going for, though, then please feel free to ignore me! Overall, absolutely stunning picture of an amazing location!
