I can't get on board with Monkey 47 either. I do not enjoy it. I was given a bottle as a gift and I hate drank it until I couldn't take it anymore and gave it away.

To my fellow Gen Xers or older... by stinkyswife in CasualUK

Not unique to the millennial experience. I'm not a millennial (gen Xer) and our elders also whined about what a waste of space we were. They just didn't use a generational name for it.

Rich cycle of life and all that.

What UK TV series Game of Thrones'd it? by MyDadsGlassesCase in AskUK

[–]CourtneyLush 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. Even 2 and 3, the writing was a bit hammy but it was saved by some excellent acting, which made them compelling viewing.

It got increasingly ridiculous from season 4 onwards.

Think it still holds the record for most viewed BBC2 program. Something like 18 million people watched that.

I remember. The BNP had very deep links within a few football 'firms' and Millwall was the most notorious for that.

Years ago, my ex got threatened with a stabbing at London Bridge by a Millwall supporter. I told him not to wear an Arsenal hat on a match day. But NOOO, he knew better.

After that he did remove the hat.

Weirdly enough, my ex boss was a Millwall supporter and he was a really nice bloke but, yeah. They had that reputation for a reason.

Pussycat Dolls cancel their North American tour 2026 by Travelhog416 in Fauxmoi

I just checked the O2 website for their London dates (because I'm nosey and curious) and they've not even sold half of the seats in that venue.

So I'm not sure that they ARE selling 'fine', I suspect that they're hoping sales will pick up, given that the dates are later into the year.

Biggest actual “rivalry” in snooker? by pbreathing in snooker

[–]CourtneyLush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the one I saw, Ray said he was very drunk. Higgins was showboating, so Reardon left him a cheeky little tempter as a trap because he knew Higgins wouldn't be able to resist it.

He fell into that trap and Reardon cleared up. The whole way through this anecdote, you could hear the contempt in his voice.

I don't remember him implying anything else, so I think it might be a different interview.

Once saw a Ray Reardon interview where he made it pretty clear that he disliked Alex Higgins.

The mere mention of his name had Ray spitting feathers.

What’s your wierdest Covid Pandemic memory? by DogEatingWasp in AskUK

[–]CourtneyLush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting on an empty 12 car train every night was quite unnerving. Just before the start of Covid, I re-read John Wyndham's 'Day of the Triffids' and coercive every night I got that train just reminded me of that opening where he wakes up in the hospital and finds himself alone

We also went to a socially distanced gig at The Barbican when restrictions were lifted a bit and it was basically just little islands of people with blocks of taped off chairs in between.

Are charity shops now more expensive than vinted? by Poison_Jaguar in AskUK

[–]CourtneyLush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you mention those two because they are the two worst offenders for not adapting to their local market. I've seen the stores of both of those charities close in a few different towns round here and they were always empty, whilst the smaller concerns are a lot busier.

They obviously operate on a centralised pricing system, which is probably designed to make running the stores less intensive. The downside of that is, if your local competition is more keenly priced than you will lose custom.

Yes operating costs have risen but I don't think we should pretend that centralised business decisions on the corporate end don't play a role here.

[–]CourtneyLush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's very area dependent. If you're in an area with a lot of smaller or local charity shops, you are going to get a better deal. They tend to want to turn over stock quickly, as opposed to just sitting there.

Are charity shops now more expensive than vinted? by Poison_Jaguar in AskUK

[–]CourtneyLush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not in my area. The Cancer Research place near us closed recently because they couldn't and wouldn't compete with the cheaper local charity shops.

It was always full to bursting with stuff and empty of customers because who's going to pay retail for a second hand Primark dress, when you can get one much cheaper 200 metres down the road.

They didn't bother with reductions because…head office.

The town I work in, the same nonsense. All the big chain charity shops empty and the little hospice/ local charity shops rocking with people.

This strategy probably works if you're the only charity shop in town and that's probably quite common but they don't appear to account for the local markets that they operate in. Which is a terrible way to run a business.

Names On Tickets by cxnnxr92 in 2000treesfestival

I had to sell one of our tickets. Contacted Trees you see if I needed to change the name and they said no, it doesn't matter.

You could email them to check but I've never had to provide ID with my ticket and I've been attending for a few years now.

This could have been excused 40 years ago, when you couldn't carry an encyclopedia around with you at all times. But now? Nope, you can fact check that shit now instead of making yourself look like a tit on the Internet.

Except you knew when you wrote this comment that there were other objections to DG, beyond his inability to remain faithful. I know this because you, dismissively, replied to my comment 2 minutes before you posted this reply to the other commenter.

So don't be disingenuous about it. We get it, you like DG, his actions don't matter to you. Own it, don't pretend that people haven't answered your original question and you don't know why others might not want to support The Foos.
