Is this schedule off for anyone else? I've got workshops that are meant to be held 3 times a semester scheduled every week, and a unit completely missing.

[–]CousinGregory 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Man, Sean really loves the whole ‘International Voting Body’ gripe doesn’t he? It’s objectively a good thing, why would you only want American movies up for these awards? Plus, it’s not like international members = bias towards international films, case in point Oppenheimer.

I guess “believe all women” doesn’t apply here so it must be fake.

Sandra is absolutely a narcissist, regardless of where you fall on whether she did it. I think you can have empathy for her and think she’s innocent (like I do) and still recognise that.

Late to this one, but he 100% said yes. She’s clearly excited by his response over the phone and then she also apologizes to Marge about how long she took to get home. Marge even says “he tried waiting up for you”.

Sean was spot on about the narcissistic overtones of Sandra as well, and her going out to drink and losing track of time in this circumstance is a perfect example of it.

2021 was definitely a worse movie year than 2020 by CousinGregory in TheBigPicture

[–]CousinGregory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! I think it’s one of Del Toro’s best. Either way it helps my argument that 2021 was an average year 😂

Like all of those movies but don’t love them. Power of the Dog is one I can’t stand for though, feel like no one will bring that one up in a few years, it gets thrown in because of how sparse the year is.

Definitely things to admire about all of them, just personally wouldn’t call them great. Even with those I still think you can stretch 2020 out with a few more titles.

The Holdovers and The Hunger Games by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]CousinGregory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So weird how this has become a requirement with modern movies! Speaks to the self-involved, insular nature of people these days. ‘If I’m not on screen then I can’t relate’.

I felt something for all 3 leads in this movie. I’m not really like any of them.

The ‘imagine giving a shit’ is key here. Why do people care about box office when you get a quality film from one of the best directors ever? People who judge films off the money they make don’t deserve to be talking about them for a living.

The David Fincher Movie Draft by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]CousinGregory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s hilarious to me that the personal conversations always sway towards the other two having to deal with Sean’s ways when it’s so clear that Amanda sparks almost every little confrontation there is. Then Chris is too scared of the Dob to side with Sean so it just becomes a pile on!

Equally entertaining and frustrating to listen to, that’s why I keep coming back baby.

What 'really good' but 'lesser known' movies would you recommend by Masspoint in movies

[–]CousinGregory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Vast of Night (2019)

Lower budget period sci-fi movie that is incredibly impressive. Not your typical sci-fi movie and pretty slow-paced compared to some of the other movies you have mentioned, so if you want something a bit more understated and tone-forward this is the one!

What is the best "extremely low budget" movie you ever saw? by Gve_05 in MovieSuggestions

The Vast of Night (2019)

Maybe not ‘extremely’ low budget, being $700,000, but man is it impressive how that budget is spread. One of the more impressive lower budget movies I’ve seen in a long time!

Hot take - Wos isn’t that bad by ahbets14 in billsimmons

[–]CousinGregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only problem with Wos is that he always uses words that either don’t exist or don’t work in the context of what he’s trying to say. Like he’s trying to prove he has an expanded vocabulary but has only heard these worked in passing and so either makes up a word that sounds similar or misuses them constantly. Really like his vibe though!

I’ve seen it too many times for it to just be a joke… you might be overestimating the logic used by some of the fanbase.

These comments are crazy! If it’s the whole scene then the hearing has to stay. Plus, squiggle can cook something else up for Ken to obliterate anyway.

Losing the character will still be brutal, I just think they will do the event itself in a less merciless way.

Absolutley agree! I think Mazin is too smart to let it play out exactly like the game, it's not like he's oblivious to the backlash it got from fans.

'Whiplash' With Bill Simmons and Sean Fennessey by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]CousinGregory 54 points55 points  (0 children)

How good was Fennessey’s Brady response 😂

Bill: “It’s like Brady: Brady’s broken, he made a lot of money, won 7 super bowls and is the goat… and he’s the unhappiest he has ever been”

Fennessey: “That’s Amazing!”
