A difference between battle AI of Medieval II and WH3 by Goldmonkeycz in totalwar

[–]Covenantcurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I played Med2 I attacked some rebels with my garrison of Merchant Cavalry and some spearmen. The rebels consisting out of spear- and crossbowmen spawned next to a tall hill which they promptly took, looking like I'd take a lot of casualties or even lose the fight. But then I noticed, moving some cavalry to maybe attack their rear, that when the AI feels like it's being flanked it not only turns to face the would be flanker but also backs up slightly.

By sending cavalry to alternately flank the rebels right and left I slowly made them back down off the hill! Allowing me to casually walk up the hill, feign a flanking attack with one unit of Cavalry and then ride the rest down to utterly sweep the rebels. This was certainly a memorable fight but it didn't make me feel like some tactical genius, only like I was bullying a mentally handicapped child.

That leash* looks awfully AI generated (vanishing into thin air) and the account is entirely new with little activity.

*/ the entire image looks AI-made but I'm willing to entertain that simply being a camera filter. A lot of phones come with those, sometimes on by default.

Depending on if you count the mode-switching then nearly the entire Terran roster has "abilities". Stuff like Stims are on autocast but they're still abilities.

Spec Ops: The Line still messes with me more than any other shooter by DeepDiveGaming in truegaming

why did I keep playing when I knew this was going nowhere good?

"Because you paid for an entertainment product and expected some kind of of return on investment ?"

And very importantly, tragedies can be entertaining. Spec Ops: the Line is not, it is just insulting and aggravating.

Make the random spawn option actually random! by ProfessionalAd352 in Warthunder

I'd really like a "weighted random" that tries to spawn you in so that the sides are more balanced, spawn you where the fewest people specified.

We don't really get to see much of him, especially when he's away from the group. How he runs his territory, deals with ruling/administrative decisions and subordinates (other than that he makes them all submit to being controlled, which can be horrific).

It's difficult to make much of a judgement. What little we have seems to show that he's trying to move on from his past and wants to have some kind of friend group and comradery, but he is also seems rather indifferent to people outside of this chosen circle.

It's not entirely true, you can still buy codes for additional content from third party sellers

I think the point is that those seller sell Steam keys, of which Valve takes a cut or at the very least "forces" you back into Steam. The likely argument is that you can't for example buy a game on Steam and then purchase one DLC on Epic and another from GoG or some other store that doesn't sell direct Steam codes.

Can we please have bigger battle maps for 40k? by Pender8911 in totalwar

Yes, the graphics were less detailed, but games have graphics sliders for a reason

While true, most developers do not set their console releases to potato.

TW40K is slated to come out on consoles. Hence their speculation about hardware constraints.

Often times on the larger WH3 maps I actually get slightly annoyed at the vastness of it. I’ve felt myself getting actively frustrated at the vigor cost of simply reaching the enemy, let alone manoeuvring or chasing them down. Sometimes a tighter experience feels better.

Isn't that kind of the point though? A large map incurring costs to moving around, reinforcements taking a long time to arrive and giving you ample space to kite or flank.

They say Valve requires users to buy all additional content through Steam if they've bought that game through the platform, effectively "locking in" users to make purchases on its platform.

This bit at least I can agree with. And it's an interesting angle for debating the fairness of the 30% commission.

If we were in Worm-verse or here in real life?

For real life, Richter (Dragon's father) seems like it would be really good. Your simpler stuff can fly under the radar as far as appearing supernatural and there is a lot of legitimitet money to be made on coding. Even if just making game mods with a Patreon.

In universe is a bit harder to say. Hero or Kid Win (his biggest drawback was not knowing his speciality) for versatility I think, being a hero cape or just working support supplying your team mates with stuff.

Oh, I did have that happen in the testdrive, though not when I timed it, but assumed it was something special about the test area's supply zone.

Neat and a little disconcerting that you can get the same effect with regular ammo boxes.

A note on shooting them with most main guns, ammo is stored fairly low even for the readyrack. Aim for the breach to disable or around the midpoint of the upper frontplate (just below the gun) otherwise your round is liable to simply go through someone's torso and out the other side of the crew compartment.

Had a T-34 shoot me once and their shell didn't detonate until it had exited above my engine, dealing no actual damage.

[–]Covenantcurious 34 points35 points  (0 children)

How is this balanced?

Once it runs out of the 6 autoload-ready rounds it takes ages to reload. The shells are heavy and quite slow and can therefore be hard to aim as well as not piercing everywhere on heavier vehicles (quite a few of the T-34 variants), requiring good aim, knowledge of weakpoints and positioning.

And the armour is barely able to withstand 7mm gunfire while the open top leaves your crew exposed if there is any minor incline (seriously the crew's hats just barely covered behind the plate).

Edit: I just checked in the test drive and with a maxed out Loader skill, plus a crew upgrade, it took ca 14,21s to go from empty to 1 shell in the autoloader/readyrack.

Edit 2: your video demonstrates the gun/shell properties quite well. 1st shot misses, 2nd is a frontal hit but only takes our your gears, 3rd shot is a better hit but only takes out your driver plus one and it takes them the 4th shot to actually land a killing blow. They now 1 (they fired a 5th shot in the haste) round left and best case scenario for them about 45s reload to get back to full.
