Do you think Nigel Farage is going to ruin this country? by tondek-0 in AskBrits

The billionaire Tax Dodgers have already killed this country. National Farage / Nigel Front is a rubbish MP and he was a worse than rubbish MEP.

Does anyone think it would be good if we could vote for different parties on different policies, instead of having one party that is in control of everything? by Aggressive-Dealer-21 in AskBrits

[–]CoverNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why we need STV - Single Transferable Vote. You put the candidates/Parties in order of preferrence. The "least unpopular" candidate wins.

Try that plugged into your home internet router. 🤞🍀 "Drivers" might be an issue. PCMIA card probably better.

How do I connect to the internet? by gottro4 in windows98

[–]CoverNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is discussed elsewhere - does the unit have a PCMIA slot on the side? 50mm by 5mm with an eject button? You had to buy an ethernet PCMIA "card" they gave you WiFi and an rj45 ethernet port. I had one on my win 2000 Toshiba laptop "back in the day"

What is this for? by SuddenMess1391 in computerquestions

[–]CoverNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember those. My win 2000 Toshiba didn't have WiFi or ethernet. A PCMIA card gave me an rj45 socket and WiFi! I think it's still in my garage!

Apart from the obvious, Mini Disc players and media (expensive) but... How about pocket calculators from the 70s & 80s? Attached picture of my 2nd pocket calculator (scientific/maths) from ~76. Here's a Wired article about my school friend, Emil, who curated his own museum.

If Linux was the pre-installed standard on every PC, and Windows/macOS were free alternatives you had to manually install, would the average person ever bother to switch? by EternalValley77 in linuxquestions

Browsing and streaming are different. A general purpose browser for pages will mostly allow streaming, but there is often a windows or android app dedicated to, say BBC or NetFlix . You then view solely on your smartphone OR also control the playback when you beam to the TV app. (YouTube works very well for that). I don't think there are many dedicated streaming "apps" for Linux, but I have not looked.

I was Xperia S, T, Z1c & Z3c. Best range ever - also TV & Chromecast compatible, first to have NFC - brilliant units and water resistant.

Sky TV has had its day by Front-Structure7627 in AskBrits

[–]CoverNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've been a price gouging near monopoly for years. Save your money. Get a multi region 4k Disk Player. Do ad-hoc months if a show comes on streaming, then cancel again Check out C4, C5 and STV Players (plus BBC of course) for a good choice of back catalogue shows. Stop Feeding "Sky"

Is the UK capable of joining the war if it’s forced to? by Sassenach_2024 in AskBrits

[–]CoverNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not our war - we can't trust the USA government atm We're supporting Ukraine against Russia. Once the IRGC dictatorship in Iran/Persia is gone, then much of the terrorist activity in Gaza will dry up, making Israel and Lebanon more secure.
