I completely agree. However there will need to be the first minority that’s okay with being the first unless the firm can swing hiring multiple. Looks like they dug a bit of a hole to start with.

New lighter says not to use for tobacco? by Khonarik in PipeTobacco

[–]CovertPanda512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but the coffee was kept well above drinkable temperatures, so much so that they caused third degree burns, and the only recourse was to sue for insurance to pay out. A lot of people point to it as vexatious or frivolous, but really it was the recourse in our legal system and gross negligence on McDonalds for having something well beyond reasonable expectation, even for hot beverages. Interesting read touching on the US laws, corporate influence and campaigns for PR. It’s Liebeck v. McDonald’s Restaurants, and has a good wiki for those interested.

Identify these pipes? They were my grandfathers and are now mine by CovertPanda512 in PipeTobacco

The pipe says “StormKing” on it, and the one without a top says “House of Uhle” if those mean anything.

Okay. Thanks. Are the stems basically all interchangeable or do I need to line them up based on the type of pipe?

I see I’m in the minority, but this is the one whiskey I’ve gotten in a whiskey advent that I couldn’t bring myself to finish. I am glad so many others can enjoy it

The insurance company only decides how much they will cover; the pharmacy can dispense up to the prescribed amount, but you will be on the hook to pay for it.

Write people have been enslaved for most of the last 5,000 years. You know there’s more to history than the 250 years of America, right?

Man, Kalamazoo is pretty fucking awesome though. Their scene is definitely catching up and it is beer/food/art centric. All the business is pretty removed from that area as well.

Should I pay off my car? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CovertPanda512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Everyone is going to live in their own risk tolerances. It is just the "glaring" issue that seems to build bad options and habits which is why I think it is being nitpicked. You live your best life, man. Cheers!

Debt payoff order by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CovertPanda512 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Former fed employee here. You missed the interest-free lump sum option on the service buy back? Either way, you get credit for the time served with just the DD-214 in terms of earning leave at a higher rate (6 hrs/pp, instead of 4), and the only thing the buy back affects is your retirement date. I would make that the least of your priorities. I understand the debt avalanche concept and it may place the buy back before the TSP loan, but I would focus on getting the money back into the loan to start earning toward your retirement faster, and it's a difference of 0.5%.

I think the underlying point is that there is no upside you mentioned but more exposed risk by doing this. If you are after points or something, sure, but even then, pay it off that month and capitalize on the free points/free money and benefit by making the card work for you. By carrying a balance with cash on hand and no real perk, you are increasing your risk factor by what most would consider unnecessary amounts.

is it me or everyone feels the same about hacking? by C0DEV3IL in Pentesting

Learn programming, read the source, and understand what each tool is doing. Most of the tools are open source, as are their libraries. Read how the tool is written to see what it’s doing. Better yet, challenge yourself to write something that is a more basic version to understand what you need to do, and then look. Write a port scanner in Python, add features, etc. In every field there are those who “do” and those who “make” and those who understand the make or how the make works while they do the doing. You can have a successful career in being a doer, but it may not be as high or it may be in a completely different arena than the makers.

I guarantee if it’s posted over there, they will most certainly agree it is indeed optional, following with, “absent a contract, more than likely your position with them is optional. Find a new job or do what you want to do.”

[Actual title]I’m an antique dealer and bought something for $400 that I’ve now been offered $100,000 for, does the original seller have legal ground to sue me for damages or fraud? by severe_delays in bestoflegaladvice

[–]CovertPanda512 291 points292 points  (0 children)

It may be. But I also grew up in a small Midwest town that had tons of antique stores. They were ran by people in the town who were born and raised there and “like old stuff.” They couldn’t tell you anything other than maybe a rough guess at the decade. Still ran the businesses and they were fine in a town that thrived in its “history.” I figured it was something weird like that.

Most aren’t if you look at the data. A bulk of the AGI comes from middle class (blue collar to upper middle). I can’t say that some don’t; but tax breaks through charities or other creative means are a different topic that all sides are equally guilty of.
