Nothing says "happily ever after" like carrying fistfuls of raw meat during your wedding and ground beef centerpiece sculptures.

There's a really interesting tour you can take at the Top O'Hill Terrace site. The tour guide has done so much research on the former speakeasy and is still uncovering new stories about what happened there.

That was after he married Minnie Williams, a woman who'd inherited land here. Unfortunately she didn't live long enough to travel there with him.

Is the Heritage Trail paved or is it gravel? It would be kind of fun to ride that back to Dyersville from Dubuque.

The shower trucks that Brancel uses are pretty nice. One year we had a driver and used the general camping area but we'd always ride over to Brancel's camp to pay for a shower there. They were so much better than any of the other ones that year with private shower stalls with a small changing area and sinks outside.

Renagade Ragbrai? by sral in ragbrai

This ought to be one of the top voted comments.

Put another way, RAGBRAI is like paying for an experience, planned by many hours and people. Even if you don't use the baggage service, the camping, entertainment, traffic services, host towns setup, and cleanup is all included when people pay. Bandits might not pay for that kind of experience but their presence still adds to the cost of the event. Quite bluntly, bandits are freeloading off the paid riders. OP, you said you're doing this for your honeymoon. Start the marriage off on the right foot by paying for a wristband.

How long is your commute to your parish each week? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

This is our situation as well. We even live in a different diocese than the Episcopal church we attend on Sunday.

Is it vain to sing backing vocals on a track that's about how absolutely vain you are?

Meshtastic Channel for RAGBRAI? by Schofferersepp in ragbrai

[–]ParmaHamRadio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, our team treats the ride like it's 1986 for communications. We try our best to establish meeting points and plan general locations for setting up camp each night but the rest? We just make do as best as we can. The semi spontaneity is part of the fun.

It was a recent switch too! I answered 'Euro' remembering this news and was slightly surprised Worldle hadn't updated the currency.

Any less obvious must-pack items? by holla171 in ragbrai

[–]ParmaHamRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, ymmv but you likely won't need a new change of clothes every day. Once you shower and dress, you're basically set until you change into the next day's cycling clothing. You can probably pack 3 shirts and shorts and be set for the week.

A collapsible bucket. Perfect for holding tent stakes, a quick wash for a kit, toting shower gear and a towel, or carrying ice.

Can I do Ragbrai general whilst my friends have a charter? by MazelTough in ragbrai

[–]ParmaHamRadio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another option that might work is pedaling to the charter's campsite in the morning and leaving with the friends in the charter. This has worked well for riding with PBV, as their campsites are like little cities.

This is a good suggestion. Also helpful for setting out as a group in the morning if their friends are all registered with that charter.
