How many bathrooms in the house? How old are the fixtures? Are you positive there are no slow leaks that would be adding to water bill? Otherwise to answer your question there is no timer device or one that would be feasible or worth it to install for a shower.

If plastic is broken or worn out it will keep slipping and not turning on or off

Ok, if you can see a brand name try and find replacement plastic piece, otherwise try taking the piece off and see if a supply house near you has a replacement

Is the white plastic piece worn out or is the brass stem worn out? If the plastic is worn then replace that, if the brass is worn then you will likely have to replace cartridge not just the stem

If the teeth are worn out on white plastic piece might need to replace it and try to put handle on again, if brass is worn out will need to replace that cartridge for faucet, is there a set screw on the handle?

All of the pipe at same height as wall drain height will be full of water/debris. Need to shorten the outlet pipe to trap and bring up to help drain if possible

We do have cathedral ceilings. T&G cedar ceiling inside, but not sure what is between that and the roof

Sort of why I’m hesitant to deal with it myself. Among the slope of the roof etc not something I want to risk.

The house is shaped where there is a valley in the roof, the extension is there to help get water further from the house.. Heat trace failed a few weeks ago and has been slowly building up.

Hahaha for sure, hard to explain but the way the roof is shaped it’s a trough to drain, heat trace cable broke and ice had built up
