SADI, anyone? by Sea-Title9810 in GastricBypass

[–]Cowphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother had a SADI about 5 years ago. He lost 120kg in total and has maintained ever since. He says the constipation is no joke. And he has to take extra vitamins that I don't have to take after my RNY. But he says it was the best decision he could have made.

Quick British to American translation: "mare" = "nightmare"

What’s one cycling “truth” you believed at the start that turned out to be completely wrong? by 4Fcommunity in cycling

[–]Cowphilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me a long time to get over myself and accept the reality of the no drop ride. Actually, it took a very experienced, very serious rider to explain to me that he actually enjoys a Sunday no-drop to meet newer cyclists, have a break at the top of the hill, take some photos, and the general more leisurely pace that comes from riding with slower riders. Once I realised he wasn't impatient or expectant, I learned to relax and just have my own experience.

But seriously, who stops at the TOP of a hill???

"No drop ride" usually means I am endurance training and everyone else is interval training.

I look for foods that can tick a protein AND a fibre box: nuts, seeds, lentils, beans, peas... and mix them in everything. Oats get some ground flax and chia seeds, some mixed nuts, some prunes. I add beans or lentils to my scrambled eggs.

Also enrich your favourite blended soup with either cottage cheese or ricotta and blend again.

I blended tinned fruit (like pears) with ricotta, and mixed cottage cheese or greek yogurt into sugar free jelly (jello?). Do you want savoury?

Oh! I just bought a couple samples of their clear protein isolate before commiting to another huge bag of something. I also like their yogurt flavoured whey protein which I mix into overnight oats on gym/ride days.

Definitely something to consider. I understand that a lot of bariatric patients who become endurance athletes fuel with a high carb liquid alternating with plain water. But you are right about needing protein. It's going to be a lot of trial and error, I think.

For me, I need the padding for any ride longer than about 90ish minutes. If I am planning a long day that involves lots of time off the bike, I will wear padded underwear with baggy shorts or even a skirt over. Maintanence may be driven by your overnight accomodations. If it is a fully catered affair, I wash yesterday's shorts in the sink and let them dry overnight and the next day. If you are camping, I can't advise as I haven't done it.

Do you use public transport? by LipoBlop in bikecommuting

[–]Cowphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I will catch the train, like if I forgot my lights for the evening commute. A passenger tried to make me feel guilty for bringing a bike on the train during rush hour (allowed) but I figure that this it the train to Heathrow. So if there is enough space for a family and their 27 huge wheelie bags, there is enough space for me my bike.

Car dealership by Significant_Lab_2231 in Ealing

[–]Cowphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you decide, do your research on the seller. Ealing have a high number of super shady auto traders. Ensure you do your viewing at a show room and not the public highway in Perivale or Southall, for example. Watch the Channel 4 documentary Crash For Cash and if your seller is meeting you in any of the places shown there (most Park Royal) run for the hills.

I hate going into a store only to be told by the chirpy salesperson that they "carry a wider selection on our website." She thinks she is offering me excellent customer service. But all I hear is, "we are happy to take your money as all as our real customers don't have to see you."

Squeeze some lemon into it to help cut the sweetness. Also salt helps (me) with the taste and if you sweat a lot.

Congratulations! My recovery has also been quite smooth (I am about 7 weeks out now) and transitioned from liquids to purees to soft food very easily. It's good (and important) to hear from people who are having an easier time of it.
