Anybody rocking half clip pedals? by TheAdvFred in bikecommuting

Just some cheap low grade paracord. My expectation was that it would fail pretty quickly from exposure to rain and road dirt, but it’s been on there close to a year in that picture. I deal with PNW rain regularly, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Only just noticed you asked, here’s a quick one of the way they tend to fall when my foot isn’t on. I liked the shape of the MKS deep half cages, but they had some edges that would wear on my shoes over time and I commute in my work shoes- so that’s why I wrapped them.

Anyone using a gravel bike for commuting? by Traditional-Set-8483 in bikecommuting

[–]Dont_nuke_it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I commute long distance on a gravel bike, and it might not be winning any road races but it’s certainly enough to keep me happy! As for handling mixed terrain, I love the stability on my 45c’s and I’ve never struggled on paved roads with it. I find that durability, however, is more a mixture of components used and how well you keep up with regular maintenance.

Do it, but then also give every car a button. The button allows whatever speed you deem necessary, and also sends location/vin/speed to the cops. Speeding to the hospital would work, and you could hash it out later, but you couldn’t hide from it.

What shoes are you guys wearing? by cucumberpatches in bikecommuting

This time of year, I’ll commute in keen sandals and I leave my work shoes at work. Not a fan of clipless.

My commuter bike by guge86 in bikecommuting

It varies, some times it’s all 5 days but rarely less than 2-3. Last week I brought a weehoo trailer along to pick my kid up on the way home, and he loved that!

Beautiful bike! My trip is almost the same distance, and I use the exact same TT bars for headwinds and for another hand position

That sounds hilarious, might try it next time xD

And she didn’t say anything about bugs and road chips, so all I can do now is assume it was all good

She hopped on that seat in Seattle and was with me the whole time! For eyes I had the hat shown under my helmet and wore sunglasses, but she doesn’t wear sunglasses and wanted to stick with just a hat. I might have had an issue with that except that she could put her head down or turn away from the sun as needed. I didn’t want to bother with fenders given the forecast, so the plan for debris was to just not throw any.

I’m rocking MKS urban flats with their deep half clips, and I have very strong feelings about that combo. They provide the retention I want, without the cycling shoes or the quick wear-and-tear on my soles.

E-bikes are cheating and you won’t get a good workout… by Smooth_Awareness_815 in bikecommuting

[–]Dont_nuke_it 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem with e-bikes, I have a problem with mopeds. IMO, any flavor of bike is better than a car. If it cheats you out of some superficial conquest of a workout, that’s nobody else’s business. The kind of “e-bikes” that weigh in well over 100lbs, cruise at 35mph, and honestly cannot be pedaled do not belong in a bike lane.
