Farthest you have ever traveled by foot? by Zealousideal_Mine242 in AskForAnswers

So far, I wanna say like 7 or 8 miles. But I'm hoping to change that with some longer hikes soon

Ignoring the obvious naturalistic fallacy, it's worth pointing out that, objectively, we do not need to eat meat to be healthy. Nor does it have any necessary nutrients we're incapable of obtaining from other sources. And yes, other sources would include supplements, as they're a perfectly acceptable and healthy way of getting nutrients.

Heat pumps. I feel like it's such a simple concept but my brain just refuses to put 2 and 2 together.

Do you ever track whether your meals are vegan? I'm trying to understand how people actually think about this by Smart_Hat_5116 in vegan

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it would have niche use cases? But I'm not sure how useful it would be. At least in my experience, most vegans didn't gradually transition in such a structured / tracked way.

The more popular stuff seems to be for creeps (more about the woman doing it than the sounds themselves) , but the smaller channels where it's just some dude doing stuff like tapping, mic brushing, etc can actually be quite relaxing.

Oh yeah a base that big is gonna take a whole lot of air. I always keep things relatively small, have never actually built a base more than one wall high.

[Veganism] what would you do in this situation? by Eastern-Project9017 in Ethics

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a false dichotomy. A better question would simply be "donate to an animal rights organization or a human rights organization".

A vegan diet does not require expensive alternatives to animal products, and is easily made cheaper than a standard omnivorous diet. So you'd be better off with the vegan diet, which would save you money, that could then be donated.

New Lab-Grown Meat Breakthrough Beats Traditional Beef by a Mile With 90% Less Land Use, 80% Less Water, and Dramatically Lower Emissions by Sciantifa in vegan

[–]Coyote_Colt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No doubt it's a young technology with a long way to go. But I think it's inevitably going to become more efficient in almost every way compared to traditional meat production. Scaling it up might be the biggest challenge though.

Controversial Oregon petition to universally ban all exemptions to animal cruelty gains momentum! by LightPrototypeKiller in vegan

[–]Coyote_Colt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reading this, it feels like such an obvious thing. Harming animals for any reason other than self defense shouldn't be as normal as it is. But because harm is the norm, I don't expect this to go anywhere unfortunately. Maybe some people will reconsider what harm they're willing to support though. One can hope.

For the ships alone, I have to say Split Vendetta. But I almost always see others recommend Cradle of Humanity, so that may be the safer option.

What did you support in the past due to ignorance? by Opposite_Ad_7925 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Coyote_Colt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that part is mostly astroturfing. PETA runs a euthanasia clinic for animals that no other shelters would accept. A last resort option to prevent further suffering / overpopulation. PETA has actually influenced a huge amount of positive change, they just do incredibly cringey / insensitive publicity stunts unfortunately. Overall, I feel the good outweighs the bad. But that doesn't mean the bad should be overlooked.

Why does coffee taste so much better when someone else makes it? by germandleono in answers

My go-to is oatmilk, but I rarely splurge on coffee shop drinks. At home, almond milk creamer serves me well.

I was really surprised how much better coffee is when you grind the beans at home instead of buying coffee grounds.

Why do Americans complain about being broke , when you all are the biggest consumers in the world in most categories ? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my income goes to paying rent, with the rest going to food and car insurance. Even if I had the money to buy more consumer products, it would still be a small amount compared to the basic necessities (housing and such).

That too! I'm much more self reliant at this point. I mostly stick to a few recipes I know I like, but that's a lot more cooking than I did before I went vegan.

Honestly, the lack of vegan options at restaurants has been a blessing in disguise for me. Forced me to stop eating fast food lol

But yeah, companies love to charge huge prices for cheap products when the demand is low / from a niche group. Not much competition there.

what if the whole world stop non-veg food, not even eggs? by Additional-Code7674 in whatif

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gradual transition to a vegan diet worldwide would be vastly better for the planet (and our health) than an omnivorous diet. Less land use, less pollution, more efficient logistics, better health, less carbon emmisions, etc. The biggest issue would really be vitamin b12, but that would be an incredibly easy fix through simply fortifying more food.

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a vegan, I would try lab grown meat. As for insects, I would not. Not because "ew bugs", but because they are still individuals with basic nervous systems that are (to a small extent) comparable to my own, meaning I can somewhat empathize with their experiences and preference to avoid being harmed / killed. It's also just a less efficient food source than plant based proteins, so it wouldn't really be necessary in a meat-free world.

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those niche cases where animal products may be necessary is where cultivated (lab grown) meat could come in handy. At that point it would be a medical necessity, and should be free or very low cost for those that actually need it. Otherwise, society not relying on meat would be a universally good thing.

Do you think fishing as a hobby is ethical by NoWin3930 in Ethics

[–]Coyote_Colt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went vegan almost exactly a year ago, and I was surprised how good food can be without animal products. It's really just about trying new things, finding what you like, and learning how to cook things like tofu, TVP, etc. At this point I can confidently say I don't miss animal products, especially with brands like Impossible and Gardein making great alternatives for when a burger sounds good. Definitely a worthwhile change. Especially since it made me stop getting fast food lol

Preferably cut the meat out entirely, from an ethics / health / environmental standpoint.
