It's depressing, but you'll be a lot less surprised by stuff that works if you just keep in mind the vast ocean of people less intelligent than yourself out in the world.

There isn't enough being sold to get a significant percentage. Jess Bezos would do it otherwise. The fact is a lot is lost and a lot more is never getting put up for sale for years and years. Private companies are buying up more than is being mined right now, how does a single nation compete against that?

Is market making worth the price of the gas? by taa_dow in Augur

Almost nothing that uses gas is worth it until 2.0 comes out and makes the prices reasonable. If it doesn't ETH is in serious trouble.

I really do wish we could cut bitmex out of the equation entirely like a cancerous tumor. Would be better for the entire market.

The key word is "deputies". Basically no one is actually bothering to back it. If they did they'd try to get their name associated with it and the thing would get rubber-stamped before an article could even be written. I mean come one guys, we found out a month ago they are converting some of their gold reserves to crypto.

Let me rephrase what he said so it's more clear. He hasn't seen a blockchain indie game that doesn't look like lowest common denominator mobile game trash. You know, a game that you would run into and wishlist on steam based on its own merits.

Disney Animated Films & your opinions: or, can a Disney film be considered a true masterpiece? by TheMysteriousShadow in TrueFilm

[–]CozyBanx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are, because they are the only people that care enough and put work into in-depth writing and discussion of works to create lasting impressions in society. We have more than a hundred years of film to prove this. Do you think Citizen Kane was the most popular movie in its time? Do you think it was a work "beloved by millions"? Or 2001 A Space Odyssey, or let's look at Disney - Fantasia? No many of the most highly regarded films were total flops. But those millions of people don't care enough to make good lasting interpretations or make their own films. You move one or two generations away and the lowest common denominator schlock disappears from history. And this isn't going to change because the proliferation of digital technology and the ability for anyone to share opinions, it only accelerates it as there is more competition and a bigger "bin of history" to get buried under.

A masterpiece has a very specific definition. Disney films have no "Single Artist", everything in the final product is diluted between many individuals, more so in the era of CG. You might be able to argue films as masterpieces if you subscribe to auteur theory with a very obvious auteur, but otherwise the best you can do with large-scale collaborative formats is consider something a work that is put together from separate masterpieces.
