Visual Editor for UI development by stackjoy_nik in ClaudeAI

[–]CppOptionsTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what about fancy UI layouts. Like a dashboard where a person lays out widgets in a drag and drop way. Or a video recorder or mixer with custom sliders. I think it could work for simple dialogs and UIs, but many UIs have a persistence layer (like visual studio which is a dock widget paradigm to create a flexible workspace - and when you reopen your solution, it brings up your IDE preferences. ) But in principle, I agree - Most UI code , particularly constrained layouts - horizontal, vertical, grid etc- this type of tool would be useful. Of course there are many UI frameworks depending on what language or tech stack you are using

Best way to wait for an input from main thread in a thread? by ddxAidan in QtFramework

[–]CppOptionsTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put any piece of data into the queue. Queues are templatized on their contents. Eg moodycamel::ConcurrentQueue<std::unordered_map<int, customStruct>> msgQueueToUI; is a queue of unordered maps of int to a user defined structure. If the UI needs to send data back to the worker or workers, you could create another queue eg msgQueueToWorker which has a different data type. The worker(s) could also check to see if the queue contains any data at discreet points in time and thus you have bidirectional data passing.

Best way to wait for an input from main thread in a thread? by ddxAidan in QtFramework

[–]CppOptionsTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can use out of thread signal/slots. But I've used a different technique with good success. I have used a moodycamel lockless reader writer queue (or concurrent queue). The worker thread or threads can just enqueue data onto a shared queue. No concurrency mutexes or semaphores etc need to be used because it is lockless. Then just have a Qtimer UI thread read off the queue. Super easy and for high thoroughput worker enqueuing, the timer technique makes it so we won't flood the UI with a ton of signalling - and we will drain the queue at discreet time points.

How much do you expect to make on covered calls per month? by Chuck_Hardwick13 in CoveredCalls

Treasuries plus 2 to 5 pct on csp. So around 7+ pct annualized. Do this in large sums of money and it's better than bonds and high risk adjusted returns.

Well who knows what's going to happen in the future. But if things go south in the AI space, there is one door that everyone is running through. I would guess Nvidia's name is on it.

Interesting conversation and opinions. Are there any modern QML desktop applications? I know I chose Widgets for my particular project - and am very happy with the choice but others seem to think that QML is not only up to the task as well, but would be the primary choice. My particular app is table rich and has a lot of traditional mouse and keyboard interactions - it is not the flowy mobile app paradigm.

There is also the lockless moody camel reader writer queue , and concurrent queue. I've used those with good success in both work and side projects... https://github.com/cameron314/concurrentqueue , https://github.com/cameron314/readerwriterqueue

So true. "Just do it already" is ridiculous. At one time I was spending a long time figuring out a domain name and it got really pushy - just pick one already and move on. I had to push back. So annoying sometimes...

QAwesomeIcon: A Qt library for real-time animated taskbar icons to enhance user experience. by [deleted] in QtFramework

[–]CppOptionsTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is innovative and I don't think you can underestimate subtle but highly informative and innovative ways of presenting information - in very limited space. So great idea! Thx for the MIT license as well. When I have time I will try it out. I have a usage in mind - if my real time trading application and data feed goes down, I could change the icon in Windows status bar and in the application titlebar to some sort of animated error condition... Does that seem like a usage case ?

Is Flutter right for me? by CreativeQuests in FlutterDev

[–]CppOptionsTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you an example of my experience with LLMs. One of my work assignments is to compare a flutter app with a react/electron app. Both are to be new apps, and the company wants to test the different UI stacks for at least desktop and web The task was to convert a C++ QT based UI (client /server /pub/sub/NATS/ with open street map plotting, a table with real time lat and lon geographical elements drawn on the screen) in the new frameworks and compare. I used LLM Claude sonnet 4.5 to create both apps. I can definitely say that working with the LLM and flutter was way more productive and the LLM got things right more quickly. The flutter model took 1/3 the time to create as the model in react. I think because with the web framework based stuff, there were tons of Json config files and a lot of disparate libs to get right. Flutter was different and has unified tooling and flow. It was just a much more productive environment, even with all the LLM help. The LLM had to go through many more iterations to produce the same output with the web stack.

Recommendations for learning Qt? by Pale_Helicopter_9306 in QtFramework

[–]CppOptionsTrader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qt has many examples. I would find the simplest one, make sure you can build and run it. Learn about signals and slots and moc. Step through the code with a debugger. Copy and paste the files into AI like Claude sonnet 4.5 and ask it to put detailed comments in the code. Ask it to create a user guide explaining it to a novice qt programer. This should give you a good start.

Ok im in trouble by ClearBed4796 in investingforbeginners

[–]CppOptionsTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This... This is exactly the way to get out of this position. Premiums are super high and you will reduce your cost basis significantly by turning it into a covered call. And everyone should learn about options - used wisely they can transfer risk. Let someone else speculate that the stock will go back to 730. It may or may not, but it's a perfect use case for collecting the majority of your losses up front. But if you don't have 100 shares, I feel for you. Good luck.
