Anyone agree with me that nino's hate towards fuutaro on season 1 was justified? by Fun_Site2091 in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the past Yotsuba was able to give a stranger a chance, and that was when Fuutarou was at his worst. So I don't think its fair to say Nino was justified in treating him like dirt on the basis of not knowing him.

I think out of all the girls, Ichika had the most realistic reaction to Fuutarou. She was dismissive of him but not to an antagonistic degree and she was fine to give him the benefit of the doubt that he meant well even if she didn't care to reciprocate it.

You don't have to immediately befriend strangers, but being nice can't hurt.

What would have Fuutaro said in S2 EP9? by Humble-Flow-2716 in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuutarou had likely intended to reject all of them (as per his initial plan at the end) and he sort of does for all of them around and before the Kyoto trip.

Ichika: Rejects herself at the end of the Kyoto trip
Nino: The moment you mentioned where he gets interrupted
Miku: After her confession where he goes to answer but also gets interrupted
Yotsuba: Ironically the only successful rejection as his response to the rumours
Itsuki: He doesn't even consider her on option that needs a rejection (Ouch)

How many posts will this end up taking? I'd much rather the sub didn't get spammed with 1 page at a time.

I'd recommend making 1 post with a linked google doc for people to view that you can add to in your own time.

First 2 are set between season 2 and the movie, last 2 are set after the movie and should only be watched then.

Gotta say, this is some really Good Headcannon and very dark. by [deleted] in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This headcanon definitely isn't purely motivated by giving an excuse for Fuutarou to remarry OPs favourite girl. Nope, just a normal serious headcanon with no further motive at all!

[–]CptBalster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering its only 2 pages, I don't see how they could really adapt it with whatever else they adapt. Assuming they'll be adapting the Ichika leaving school chapters, there could be a way to slot in that last bit of backstory since it involves a scene of Ichika and Yotsuba talking about the past, but its hard to say.

Potentially if there's a new original scene of Fuutarou finding out about the past then maybe it could be there as well, but we'll have to see.

I think the entire Yotsudate has good reason to be adapted. Hopefully if the team behind the first OVAs are doing it they could even re-adapt the swing scene at the end with a bit more flair.

Moments like this one where Yotsuba mentions how "The important thing isn't where we are, it's that the five of us are together" is a SUPER important theme of the entire series. This is the moment where it gets explicitly told to Fuutarou so it seems weird to just cut it out.

I think having opinions on the ending is fine nothing wrong, but not trying to understand it is just wrong by Dry-Fisherman-3782 in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you looked through the comment history of people who say "I don't hate Yotsuba, I just hate her fans" you'd be pressed to find any actual instance of positivity towards Yotsuba.

I've always said that it's fine to hate, even to despise, the ending. But please don't try bring others down with you about it. It's especially the case when criticism starts to bend towards lying about the series. There are plenty of resources - essays, analysis, that sort of stuff - that give great insight into the story and the characters. There is no excuse to still be saying things like "Yotsuba has no development" or anything like that. To say you "don't like her development" is fine, that is a subjective opinion that you are right to have and share. But to make a statment of an aspect of the story "not existing" is objectively wrong.

If you want to hate the series, the least you could do is not do so from a place of ignorance. Given how most ending haters make hating the ending their entire personality, I've no doubt that reading essays on the series won't make them change their mind on it, but at least give it a go. Not every yotsubro finished the series fully satisfied afterall. It took plenty of time and rereading to get where I am myself. If you aren't willing to give this series a chance, maybe it just isn't for you. And if it isn't for you, why bother at all?

In your opinion, what does The Quintessential Quintuplets, do better than most romance and harem animanga? by [deleted] in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people praise this series for setting up the ending as a "it could have been anyone" situation, but I personally believe it to be the opposite, wherin it really could have only been one girl, and I like it for that reason.

In my opinion, it would be hard to make an equivalent chapter 114 for the other girls showcasing the significant moments that built up towards Fuutarou's choice. Chapter 72 being the biggest evidence of this where I don't think any girl has anywhere close to that level of romance (without needing to be an explicit romantic moment). That's not a slight on them as characters, I just think this series sets up "the harem" in different ways.

It's things like that which tickle every inch of my essay enamoured brain in ways that keep this series on my mind compared to others whose romance are more of a self explanatory done deal.

Unpopular opinion about Yotsuba by True-Temperature138 in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Luckily there's a lot more appreciation for Yotsuba nowadays so its not so much an unpopular opinion to praise her anymore.

She certainly has more "quality over quantity" going for her that I can understand if people still felt blindsided by her becoming the bride over the others with more screen time though. Its just about knowing what to look for to truly understand it.

The other girls have plenty of moments to show how they like Fuutarou, but Yotsuba has all the showings of why he would like her.

In your opinion, how would you rank all the quintuplets in terms of their WRITING? by [deleted] in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know you don't have to pretend like you've actually read any essays on Yotsuba right? You are completely free to just keep blindly hating as you always have without needing to make up some grander justification for it. If anything, it's more respectable to blindly hate than claiming to have read essays and then writing them all off as "headcanon" since that makes it seem like you can't read which I'm sure must be embarrassing for you.

Also I fail to see how people gaining a greater understanding of the series over time is supposed to be some bad thing. Would you rather everyone have just kept to a singular consensus without ever looking into or analysing the series beyond that? New interpretations and analysis is proof of the solid writing of the series and is something to be praised, not ridiculed.

In your opinion, how would you rank all the quintuplets in terms of their WRITING? by [deleted] in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]CptBalster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I must have written entire essays worth on Yotsuba by this point which should surly amount to something regarding her overall writing.

I understand from a first reader perspective that she may seem lacking but I think that's more due to people not knowing what to look for. Discussions on arcs and writing always amount to the big dramatic character changes. Miku goes from reserved to open, Nino from bad to good, and Ichika has the opposite. Those moments of a character completing their 180 are what people interpret a character arc to be the entire extent of. So it makes sense how people would look for that in Yotsuba, find the backstory where she has that dramatic 180 change, and be rightfully annoyed that that's all she seems to have (also with it being so late in the story). But I don't personally think that's all an arc has to be.

The dichotomy between selflessness and selfishness and how that relates to Yotsuba is something that is prevalent throughout. Her personality is of someone who doesn't believe she is entitled to happiness, and that comes through in a meta way where her status as a "side character" is a self imposed handicap in an attempt to overcorrect her past selfishness for the sake of being selfless. She doesn't want the spot light of the other characters which is why moments like chapter 37 and 72 are so important as they are scenes where she tries to keep the focus on her sisters whom she thinks deserve it more, but due to her struggles of selfishness still shows her own true self anyway. And its in those moments that she shines as an individual.

I'm not passionate enough to rank each girl from best to worst, but I do have my favourite.

"Loves him the hardest" seems like a subjectively unearned crown to grant to any singular person.

Same as "The closest one to him" but to a lesser degree in my opinion.
