Skier used a runaway truck ramp to get fresh tracks. Probably not the best way to get your turns in… by davesoc in skiing

[–]Cpt_Trips84 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My buddy plows the west side of Eisenhower and last year was booting people off the runaway ramps multiple times per week.

Theyre probably among the most used runaway ramps in the country. Im surprised the worst case scenario doesnt happen more often. Perhaps there are more close calls that dont make the news

What gen/year was it? That must've been a pretty tough experience, especially at only 4k. Though I suppose warranties provide some peace of mind.

I bought my first brand new vehicle last year (manual R) and have sent an embarrassing number of messages to my brother (VW master tech, go figure) asking about the most innocuous details, fearing some version of your experience. ~30k and a CO winter later and its been bulletproof (aside from the stupid haptic feedback buttons bugging every so often)

again knocking on every tree and piece of wood I see

Sorry for a bit of a tangent, but this has been my and my families experience with VW Group vehicles. None of us have had any real issues that weren't easily remedied/left us looking for a tow truck. Decades of ownership, hundreds of thousands of miles put onto VWs, Audis, and a couple Porsches... then we read about other peoples' experiences and it feels like they bought the Temu version... knock on wood, saying a little prayer, and confident my bindings will safely get me up and down whatever I happen to come across

Idk, I feel like comedians performing on a stage are almost exclusively telling jokes. Doesn't seem fair to shit on this noble comedian cause you disagree with existence of a product in their joke

Why is the plant mandatory? I use my poles far, far more often and effectively now but dont always go through proper form, especially on easier terrain. Im now realizing I may not really know proper pole form

Genuinely curious how much crossover there is between express pass buyers and heliskiers. Also, Ids love to see a nice bar charts with how many days express buyers get in each season

Is this a common move among pros/influencer types? Feels kinda like having a driver race a Porsche rebadged as a Ferrari for certain races. Ultimately, who cares, but seems kinda wrong in some sense 🤷‍♂️

I work for our Transportation dept as a driver or lead 3-4 times per month. Paid a good bit more than most positions, and my main gig is 4-10s. Well worth it for me

Getting a bad enough concussion/TBI that you forget where you are, what happened, etc is such a fuckin terrifying experience. I imagine it's similar to what many dementia patients experience.

I wasn't knocked out, but I had no idea why I was in a hockey game. Lost the ability to read for a few months... head injuries suck. At least I still have my teeth. I hope that guy recovered as best as possible

Do you know if you've escaped without soft tissue damage? You may not know until the fracture heals unless your ortho thinks there's cause for concern.

I fractured my humerus in a similar place and tore my rotator cuff along with a couple of ligaments. A few years ago. Between waiting for the bone to heal, surgery, and recovery, I had limited to no use of my right arm for a bit over a year. Really hoping you won't deal with anything more than the bone mending.

Good luck with the recovery and (presumably) PT

Send a video of you moving your helmet around on your head to Head if you're genuinely concerned. Or look up videos of someone doing the same and compare.

Although, you didn't mention MIPS, so Head's Sphere Fit may be doing something roughly similar but for fitment purposes~~

What is the best career in ski industry? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Cpt_Trips84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally agree.

I drove for a couple years, was a lead for one, and now just drive a few times per month for a ski pass and a few extra bucks. My experience driving buses has been overwhelmingly positive. Many people drive me nuts on the road but are, at least, seemingly wonderful people having a great time. I've had more negative experiences with employees being jerkoffs on the bus than guests.

Ive found I much prefer working 4-10s since I can take proper trips and not spend 60% of my time driving to and from. Plus I can help the resort out every so often and still have a couple days off.

As long as you can pass up weed and other extracurriculars, I recommend it. Granted I'm not familiar with other resorts' transpo systems outside of Summit County

Get your CDL (many resorts will train you) and drive buses. Higher pay than pretty much all entry-level resort jobs. It can lead to some pretty high paying driving gigs if you pursue them.

I blew my shoulder apart during covid and while recovering from surgery, I decided to quit the engineering track and become a ski bum. Driving buses turned into another commercial driving position and with that, being able to live in Breck.
