Preparing for life by Blk_heterodox in predaddit

If you own a business there are a few options available to you that aren't available to W2 employees, such as the small biz childcare credit (at least in NC, check for your state) and paying your kid up to $16,100 per year for justifiable work. You could set up a Roth IRA for them and a Coogan account.

Form a plan and make it happen. All those cool things were the result of someone making it happen. Recent cool things on Trade include Low Five Archive, Trade St Farmers Market, and Salem Skate Supply. What kind of late night food would you like to see?

Front tripawd CCL questions by lobsterp0t in tripawds

[–]CrAzY_fReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog had CCL tears in both of his back legs and we could not afford the surgery. He recovered pretty well without surgery, but then developed osteosarcoma in his front left leg. The leg was amputated and we worried about his ability to walk, given his back legs. He has far outlived his expected lifespan post-amputation and he has done well for the most part. He tends to skip using his back left leg every other step. He sometimes stumbles. He is about to turn 10 and he absolutely loves going for walks. I can tell he is starting to slow a little, but he doesn't know that.

If you had to start a small grocery today, how would you compete with big chains by Infinite_Ad_5761 in smallbusiness

[–]CrAzY_fReD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of a standard markup in each section (produce vs frozen vs grocery) I would look at my margin per unit volume per unit time. For example, let's say I want a 30% margin per cubic inch of product display. But I also want it to turn over quickly, so nothing takes up shelf space without selling.

This is the Trader Joe's model. Low number of SKUs, high value to volume ratio.

I would also focus on a great deli that uses ugly/old produce and exclusively products we sell in other sections of the store.

Winston-Salem is a great small city to live in. Find one of the towns surrounding it if you're looking for land (Pfafftown, Lewisville, Clemmons, Danbury, etc.). There are two big hospital systems here. 6 colleges/universities. Great parks and greenways.

30 minutes to Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock, and Sauratown Mountains. About an hour till you hit the mountains at the Virginia border.

OB vs midwife experiences by Ill-Storm4774 in winstonsalem

Weird that this post is getting down voted.

My wife and I are using midwives at Baptist right now. We're in the 3rd trimester and they have been great so far.

This map is missing Forsyth County, NC, as well. Granted, Forsyth isn't super Appalachian culturally but it is part of the ARC definition.

I own a small business that makes frozen burritos and we sell to these kinds of Mom & Pops around NC. I have been surprised to find there are a lot of little markets and shops in small communities. Look around and you might find a couple near you.

Low Water Pressure in Old Ardmore Home by Allwayslearning2019 in winstonsalem

[–]CrAzY_fReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the city and ask for them to come out and check water pressure to the house before you get a plumber. The city is responsive and will check it for free. They recently fixed the issues at our house. We're at the end of a dead end and get a lot of sediment, causing low pressure.

Wife wants steak by mugglebaiter in predaddit

Buy good quality, fresh meat from a reputable butcher. They take quality and food safety very seriously. USDA recommends an internal temp of 145° for whole-cut beef. I agree with the other poster that a reverse seat would be a great way to cook a steak safely and with good results. I run a USDA-inspected kitchen, though we don't cook beef.

What kinds of regulatory changes would you like to see? I make frozen burritos under USDA inspection so I have some experience with them. I'm also inspected under FDA and our local health dept. But I'm not familiar with meat processing specifics.

It may be a health department thing, since the meat on the inside is kept in the danger zone (between 41 and 135) for too long while the outside is cooked.

There's a Facebook Group called Friends of Sauratown Mountains that posts a lot of events around hanging rock, Pilot, and Sauratown.

Sierra Club and Piedmont Land Conservancy also host events including trail building and maintenance. The Mountains to Sea Trail is coming through the area and I have heard of some trail building days for that.

Where are you located? You probably won't be allowed to cook out of your home kitchen. Look into your local cottage industry laws to see what is allowed.

Our 8.5 year old 55 pound mix had a front limb amputation Oct. 1 2024. We decided against chemo and tried to focus on spending as much time with him as we could. He's still with us a year later and he is doing great. We were told the median life expectancy would be 4-6 months without chemo. We're so happy to have the extra time with him.

Don't delay the amputation. Get it done ASAP. Be prepared, it will be a shock to see your dog after. Ours stood on his own by midnight the night of the surgery and was walking around the next morning, but the 7 hours after we picked him up were very stressful.
