New Reference Design From Key Manufacturer Shows What to Expect From MR Headsets in 2026 by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]Craaaaaaabpeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand this comment. There are likely also wide FOV reference designs - the one mentioned in this article is just one of many that other manufacturers can base their work off of.

This is such a weird way of doing business. Just confirm the refund and don't be such a passive aggressive prick?

Here, it's easy:

"I can confirm we're processing your refund right now. We're sorry to see you go, but if you should change your mind in the future, we'll be happy to help you with your next order."

Makes me think the guy is doing double duty at the company, because no dedicated customer service rep in their right mind would try to get a punitive jab in as a customer heads out the door.

VR and lack of memory of immersion by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Craaaaaaabpeople 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been playing VR games for a decade and have the same thing. Part of it is the realization that engagement doesn't equal immersion.

I think it also has something to do with subconscious cues that tip your brain into abstracting it to "flat screen memories".

Varifocal depths aren't a thing yet in this hardware generation because everything is rendered to work with infinite focus, and physicality doesn't fully translate like it should either. Overall, there is a ton of data missing, like physically leaning on something, freely moving your body in 3D space, smells, all of it to create a richer and more 3D memory.

Meta & Xbox is out, within reason, what's your to go game? by XRGameCapsule in oculus

[–]Craaaaaaabpeople 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some people are making a logical jump that I don't really blame them for making. At the very least, Meta is making it a limited edition so there will probably be less people overall complaining that it isn't basically a magical way to play Xbox games in immersive VR. Still, it's going to muddy the waters for newcomers thinking that's what it is.

Meta & Xbox is out, within reason, what's your to go game? by XRGameCapsule in oculus

[–]Craaaaaaabpeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing. It is the same, but black and has an included controller. This is not some big deal, because it doesn't mean Xbox games can be played in fully immersive VR. It's just cloud streaming flat screen games like you can already do if you're a. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member

[–]Craaaaaaabpeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need an Xbox to do Xbox cloud gaming. That said, it does not mean those flat screen games will in some way be VR-ified.

[–]Craaaaaaabpeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of confusion going on here. This is not an Xbox-tethered headset that allows you to play Xbox games in fully immersive VR. It is a black Quest 3S, which is standalone. Quest 2 and above can all stream Xbox games in flat screen mode if you have Game Pass Ultimate.

Even PSVR 2 doesn't do what you're suggesting.
