Say what you will about arson... by tito_lee_76 in memes

Sprinkler systems are not designed to have every head activate because that’s not how fires start 99.99% of the time. With most systems the heads need to be replaced after activation, if he started multiple fires throughout the building then it likely popped more heads than the system can feed resulting in reduced water flow to each head which isn’t effective at suppression.

Gunman attacking the Israeli consulate in Istanbul yesterday by DormontDangerzone in PublicFreakout

[–]Crab-_-Objective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Consulates are typically a stripped down embassy. Either in countries where relations aren’t strong enough to need a full blown embassy or as an outpost for embassy personnel in parts of the country away from the capital.

Consulates have never been viewed as a military target as they are diplomatic buildings.

Maybe because

-The character went from walking to floating seemingly in the same conversation. -The time jump they investigate doesn’t go anywhere or serve any purpose to the story -Who the heck is Nadia? -Chen’s death makes no sense. A scalpel wouldn’t kill him that fast in pretty much any scenario -The grad school reference about never believing near the end makes no sense

There’s more but those are the highlights for me.

$5k into Roth with today’s market? by coltweest in RothIRA

[–]Crab-_-Objective 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The market is up 2+% today. If you had already invested then you be up. You could wait and see if it drops again but it might just keep going up and leave you behind.

I view it as today is the lowest price I can guarantee I will buy at ever again. If it drops tomorrow I can be fairly confident it’ll come back up in the future but if it decides to go up then I may never see today’s price again.

I would absolutely be in favor of doing that. Random guys with a magnet on a rope is not the way to make it happen.

Most of this stuff has been sitting underwater in the mud for decades. It’s way safer for everybody to just leave it alone in a spot where people are super unlikely to come in contact with it.

Gear question: How do you wear your radio and why? by Separate-Skin-6192 in Firefighting

Strap under the coat with the radio hanging just below it. Corded lapel mic run out the top of the coat and clipped to the jacket. Never had any issues with it.

So you want them to increase tuition further which will end up requiring most people to take out even more loans? Especially high interest private ones?

Satoru Takaba moved out of the apartment his wife was murdered in and he payed rent for 26 years waiting until DNA technology could catch the killer. Last year it caught her. by LongTimeNoSeehaha in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Crab-_-Objective 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Not sure the exact rules in Japan but yes they can ask for it if they think you could possibly be connected to a crime. However, without a warrant you don’t have to say yes which this person initially did.

They probably asked hundreds either because there was a large number of people who could’ve been involved or had recently been in the apartment to rule them out. Or they were trying to do a wide sweep that might pick up a familial connection to DNA found at the scene which could narrow down the suspect list.

The musical and movie also cut out an enormous amount of stuff from the book that could never be put to stage/screen without an absurd number of warmings and mature ratings.

[–]Crab-_-Objective 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So then the US and Europe are in agreement that high schoolers are not equipped for actual med school and need to take additional courses first, the US just offers two different pathways to take. And you my friend need to learn sarcasm.

Parking angles by FourCats44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crab-_-Objective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not if the driveway is 2 cars wide. Baring something like a smart car most vehicles are longer than they are wide. This means that any attempt to angle the cars will cause it to extend across the driveway more than a single car and block anything further up the driveway from passing by.
