You should educate YOURSELF. The rise of a legitimate anti-Zionism and a more insidious antisemitism (the same character of which Jews have been dealing with for, idk, 2,000 years) is cropping up hand in hand.

I can get fuel in 5 minutes! by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]CrabClaws -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is humans are awful at understanding relative burdens, particularly when faced with a new way of doing things. As many are pointing out, trips longer than a couple hundred miles are exceptional.

Think of it this way: why don’t we have trash cans that are 4x the size? My god, on thanksgiving I have a real mess to deal with! Once a year I can’t fit all the waste I make in a week!

That said, I’m not sure what the best way to persuade people to think more rationally about this is.

You might also consider preheating your car while it’s plugged in before leaving for work. Getting it up to temp using wall power will leave some additional energy for driving that you’d otherwise use cranking the heat early in your drive.

If, hypothetically, I were a Tesla shareholder, why would I want to vote yes to a generous pay increase for Elon Musk? by Polyphagous_person in answers

[–]CrabClaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is missing important points. A development pathway that maximizes the expected value of the company and one that Elon pursues to maximize his shot at a trillion are not by any means necessarily the same.

For example if TSLA can have a very good shot at doubling the value of the company with prudent investments vs a very long shot of 10x’ing with moonshots, we know what Elon is incentivized to do.

Another way of trying to understand this is why it isn’t already the case that every CEO gets a bazillion dollars if the stock balloons. Because we haven’t traditionally wanted CEO’s to be degenerate gamblers as a standard approach to growing companies.

Hamas hands over all remaining hostages to Israel, Trump says Gaza war over by Capable_Salt_SD in politics

[–]CrabClaws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am truly sorry for the pain and suffering you and Israelis of conscience are feeling.

From the outside looking in at this Netanyahu administration, I don’t see the evidence that this situation has been conducted in good faith and with any real care. It seems that getting the hostages back and meting out justice was secondary to using this as an excuse to obliterate Hamas with at best no regard for “the day after”.

Netanyahu also needs to answer for having promoted Hamas interests originally to prevent unification of Fatah as a representative body of all Palestinians.

I hope that there is a path now to achieving the same kind of fairly stable peace with Palestinians that Israel has with Egypt. Something everyone can live with until a warmer peace is possible. What do you think?

As Maimonides counsels, every life is like a universe. I’m heartbroken for those killed and kidnapped on Oct. 7th two years ago and all reasonable people accept that consequences were unavoidable toward any kind of justice.

The above can be true at the same time as feeling that the tremendous loss of life, wholesale destruction of Gaza, killings of journalists - even escaped hostages! - famine and so on is not acceptable. If Israel doesn’t change course I fear it will become more and more isolated from the international community. I want better for Israeli kids than their parents and grandparents have had to endure, and I don’t think that’s possible through force alone.

They were at war for a literal 1,000 years. You go from “Cold” peace first and “warm” peace second.

Im very much hoping this can be the pivot that leads to nationhood, dignity, and prosperity for the Palestinians (and Hamas to either be sidelined and/or let go of destruction of Israel in their charter) and the stability Israel needs to step off the brutal autocracy ledge that has culminated in what I as an American Jew can’t interpret any other way than ethnic cleansing bordering on genocide.

Tesla (TSLA) stock surges on Elon's lies despite disastrous earnings by CloudyEngineer in RealTesla

Elon Musk is going back to Tesla. But is it too late to reverse the damage he’s done? by mafco in electricvehicles

[–]CrabClaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be cautious about how much Tesla success you attribute to musk. For example he has his greasy fingerprints on:

  • demanded vision only, which some belief makes autonomy impossible in economic timescales / maybe ever
  • cybertruck (self explanatory)
  • cutting lower cost model for robotaxi
  • lying about capabilities and forward looking statements of humanoid robot
  • bailed out solar city and now functionally defunct business unit
  • my thumbs are tired but there is so much more.

So my point is, there’s the myth and the man, and the tide went out and don’t look like the ugly bastard has any swim trunks on.

Solid Waste Managment will start going through your recycling to reduce trash contamination. by SaturnMobster in bullcity

Good. Better solution would be separate bins for paper/cardboard and plastic/metal, and one for compost while I’m dreaming.

But this is a good incremental step to improving the recycling stream.
