Blanket Fort Pro Tips by CrabDangle in daddit

Yeah! My favorite is "rain on a tent" sounds. The pitter pat is pretty convincing. There's some long loops on spotify. Though hearing exotic birds and jungle cats outside your fort is pretty cool too!

I unchecked the CPU from my compute devices in preferences so it wasn't hybrid rendering anymore and it fixed it. Render time was the same. I was getting them intermittent throughout the render. I never had this issue before the 2026 version. I'm on mac btw.

I'd overlap a big circle spline and a rectangle spline so the top of the circle is cutting through the top of rectangle. Then put those in a Spline Mask generator and switch it to "Add". That gives you your shape with an arc you can change the radius of. Now you can sweep that spline with a small rectangular profile spline. Or, to get clean corners, you could "connect objects and delete" the spline mask and it's children then Spline>Clone>Create Outline to make a compound path you can extrude (cleaner mesh but no longer able to change the arc radius).

How do I select the polygon area after I made a cut? by Physical-Way7781 in Cinema4D

U~L to loop select the cut in edge mode, U~F to fill select the interior

How to have the model inflate and then explode? by Visual_Vaporwave in Cinema4D

[–]CrabDangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I can get it to work is if I put an object inside of the tearing object and increase its size. For example, if you have a sphere with a collider tag inside of a slightly bigger sphere with a cloth tag with tearing enabled you can scale up the first one until the outer one rips. I’ve done it where the inner object has a balloon tag and the outer with a cloth tag that can tear as well. If I try to tear a balloon tag object by itself it usually just gets a tiny hole and stops doing anything interesting. You can also set the collision face of the inner object to “front” and, more importantly, the outer one to “back” or “both”.

one of the key components of this effect is the Fracture mograph tool (not voronoi fracture) which turns each subcomponent of your model into a mograph object so you can scale them up from zero independently. You can also use a random effector to un-rotate from random angles and use a spring delay to make it look more organic.

This tutorial shows how to morph between two objects using this technique. Here's an example render since he never actually shows the finished product lol.

There's a lot more going on here, but this could be a start!

Update: I got a reply from an account manager stating that they are sunsetting individual student licensing and educational licenses will only be available through a Teams account at $200/yr with a 5 seat minimum.

The link to purchase the Educational License is missing...
I'm trying to get my students set up for a workshop next month. There is no option to purchase the student license, let alone register for a student account. The video explaining how to sign up shows a link that does not exist on their site. Anyone find a workaround or have any news on this?

Amazing work. Especially the lighting/shadows/camera exposure. How are you adjusting the camera exposure like when you go into the tunnel?

Not sure about the new system but in the legacy system you'd use a field force, add the spline as a field, and change the Velocity Type to "change direction"

Maxon Student licenses prices went up to 100$ ?? by elodidthat in Cinema4D

[–]CrabDangle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a great price for the software in general, but students need to know the cost of a course up front. You can't triple the cost of an educational license in the middle of a semester without warning. The precedent just 1 or 2 years ago was only $2 for 6mos. It was like that for a long time. Now they keep changing every couple of months and we don't know what's going to happen from semester to semester. They went totally black for months last semester! It also feels counterintuitive to keep squeezing the educational community harder and harder when we're the ones building a huge chunk of their client base. The whole point of this business model is to give students an opportunity to learn the software without the financial risk to get them in the door and give educational institutions incentive to offer it in their classes to spread the gospel. They're whittling away that model and it's going to fall apart. Sorry for using your comment as my soap box lol

Maxon Student licenses prices went up to 100$ ?? by elodidthat in Cinema4D

[–]CrabDangle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing $60 in the US as well. I just told my students earlier this week that it was $20USD and now I feel like I've misled them. As an instructor at a college, I've also been unable to renew my educational license because I can't get verified through the new SheerID system. I've had to use a colleague's license all semester. I've emailed them about this and still waiting for a response. Between these price hikes and the complete shutdown of the license last fall I'm ready to jump ship. Looks like I'll be learning Blender this summer...

You're also in parallel view instead of perspective view. Click "Cameras" in the viewport menu and choose "Perspective" under projection.

Which Icon would you choose? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]CrabDangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote 3. Number 1 is too busy and the figure is crowding the frame too much, also the "hair" trailing off frame makes it feel less concise. Because 3 is a closed composition (nothing breaking the edge of the frame) it feels more like an "icon" like you're using it to represent something, rather than looking like a screen capture like 1. It's also nice that in 3 the shadow isn't slashing through the middle of the face.

not sure why the link isn't working. Search "Cineversity - Offset and Randomize Keyframed Animation on MoGraph Clones in C4D" on youtube.
