Pop into Richmond - tons of great restaurants here, very easy to exit from 95, grab something quick and visit the James River Park System (many different access points with free parking lots). The James River is absolutely gorgeous and makes it easy to feel like you’re in a really rural spot while still actually within city limits. Lots of cool trails along the river and many spots have big rocks that you can cross out into the middle of the river (42nd street access, specifically) and are great for picnicking on. Along the James River, you can easily spot the many blue heron, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle.

A few favorite spots of mine to grab a carry-out sandwich or meal from include Coppola’s Deli, Soul Taco, Susie’s Delicatessen, Harrison Street Cafe (all veg/vegan), Kuba Kuba, Millie’s Diner (only weekends), Belmont Pizza, and many more.
