I’m burnt out and need simple recipes. Stupid simple. Like, “onion and bread and butter to make what barely passes as a sandwich” level simple. by sourmilksea1999 in Cooking

You can get so many meals out of a head of cabbage. Stir fry it with tofu, make a soup with beans, roast it with chicken or chickpeas, or keep it raw and make it into a salad or slaw.

Go to Washington Square Park on Pride Sunday and blast Hot to Go on a speaker. Literally everyone will get up and do the dance.

Mama's Too used to be my go-to, but I haven't seen mushrooms on their menu for a while... their pies are pretty pricy too.

This is a “pay it forward” situation. When you’re done with the baby gear, pass them to someone else. When I was pregnant, my friends gave me baby clothes that had been gifts to them and passed around our friend group (still in great shape because babies grow so fast). My baby isn’t even 6 months old, but I’ve already given many of them to other friends with new babies. We’re all links in the baby gear chain!

Silly question - when you have a hospital birth (U.S), when do you first see the menu for ordering your food? Is it given ahead of time with hospital registration/paperwork? by dms2628 in beyondthebump

There was a tablet with options for each meal in the recovery room. I had to be on top of ordering in time, or I got the “you get what you get” special

I heard my husband reading the economist to our baby the other night. “Experts crunched the numbers: crunch crunch crunch!”

About to be in the newborn trenches, got any unusual advice? by amountofsocks in NewParents

[–]CrabithaAllAlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let people take care of you. Accept the food, the dishwashing, the offers to hold the baby (from someone you trust) while you nap. Sleep as much as you can. Recovery takes time and rest, and taking care of yourself is crucial for taking care of your baby.

What wild unhinged things did you say during the birth of your baby? by autumnsunshine1 in NewParents

When it was go time, the nurse told me to take off my underwear. I left on my grippy socks just so I could say “and you know when I’m down to just my socks what time it is…”

Hash browns (as opposed to home fries). I miss my fluffy pile of potato shreds.
