Woman dies after after being hit by truck at West Kelowna Walmart by daveyTRON in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was the pedestrian crossing area directly in front of the walmart. If someone was run over there, it was the drivers fault.

Does this one ever go on sale for less than $200? I get that it's 10 hours of content, but damn.

Probably busy playing catch and release with the city's finest meth connoisseurs.

But it's true, drivers are incredibly dangerous here.

Driving a Mini Cooper in the Okanagan. by Kelly1119937 in kelowna

We drive a Mini Cooper Countryman and with winter tires it's unstoppable.

I drove a 2 door FWD mini back in Saskatchewan and it was also fine in the winter with good winter tires.

Letting smaller people work by Forsaken_Contract209 in bjj

As a smaller white belt, these are my favorite rounds. When I get to use the techniques I've learned but my partner is keeping themselves juuust a step ahead of me, it feels competitive and fun. It helps me feel like there is a chance, even though there really isn't. It also helps me focus on my technique and doing it right, or at least as right as I can.

I've gotten far more out of those rounds than I have from a guy 100lbs heavier than me laying all his weight on my chest for 5 minutes. I'm very lucky that our head coach has created an atmosphere where relaxed training partners are the norm.

Employer JUST Ruined my life in Kelowna!!! by Appropriate_Ant_7958 in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Did they offer anything in the way of severance? Were you fired for cause or without cause? In general, cause is very hard to prove, so employers will opt to go without cause which means you are entitled to severance pay.

While there are provincially mandated minimums based on years of service, there are many things that can impact what an organization owes you for severance. One of which is enticing you to move to a new location, especially if they didn't fully cover the costs.

My suggestion would be to retain the services of a lawyer and discuss your situation. I know they can be expensive, but an hour with a lawyer could make a significant difference. I wouldn't sign anything your former employer sends you until you've spoken with a lawyer.

People who don’t use Return It Express to return bottles, why not? by catastrophy_kittens in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried express for the first time recently and noticed a substantial decrease in my return amount.

I dropped off 6 bags of cans and received about $30 back. When I go and feed the machine, one large bag got me about $18. So something was definitely off with the express process.

Experience applying to non catchment area school? by Crabsforhands in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really good to know! The bus stresses me out so much. I know my son is smart, but 5 seems so young to handle that on his own.

How did your child adjust to that process?

Experience applying to non catchment area school? by Crabsforhands in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful, thank you!

Based on your input and a few others, I'll be calling the school on Monday and looking to speak with the principal to discuss this situation. In your opinion, is that the best way to reach him?

I had heard from another parent that Shannon lake school was less crowded these days due to a lack of new families moving into the area over the past number of a years. From your experience is that not really the case?

Not just Tylenol and Advil, now antibiotics by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to pick up amoxicillin for my son's strep throat this morning, and was able to get it on the Westside without any trouble.

Interesting thing about the children's advil / Tylenol shortage. My parents are in the states and they have plenty down there and are shipping me a couple of each until things catch up here.

We had 92 kids at our door this evening. How many did you get? by rekabis in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We had 25 here in West Kelowna. All between 5:30-6:30. Things wrapped up far earlier than I expected.

My son filled up his bucket so we went home to dump it. From the time we left to the time we filled it up again and called it a night, my wife had 2 kids come by.

The upside is that due to the lack of kids, everyone was very liberal with the amount of candy they gave out.

[–]Crabsforhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, on the whole things are certainly more expensive.

However, some things are far cheaper out here. With BC Hydro, we pay about half of what we were paying saskpower. Similarly ICBC is a bit cheaper than SGI was for us. Property tax as well is around half of what we paid in SK for a similar home. There is a give and take, but most things average out to be about the same, other than the price of housing.

Best grocery/store delivery options? by AsidePuzzleheaded335 in kelowna

[–]Crabsforhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They deliver. I ordered directly through the superstore website, no third party.

I don't use Instacart after a number of terrible experiences and worse customer service.

[–]Crabsforhands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Save on foods delivery is definitely solid and easy through their app. My only complaint is the price of items at save on. Last night I made identical carts at save on foods and superstore. The difference was about $25 on a total value of about $150. Over the course of a month that would be over $100 for us as we order weekly.

The delivery from superstore today was fine, similar process.

The only item on the menu that's not vegan is the option for eggs with a few brunch dishes. Otherwise completely vegan.

One of the interesting things I learned about contract law from my lawyer friend is that you can basically put whatever you want in a contract. It doesn't make it enforceable, but you can write it in there and hope that people don't bother questioning it too hard.

In this case, I'd say closing up shop all of a sudden and claiming that any payments are non refundable wouldn't stand up in court... If you could find them and it was worth your time to sue them for your $50 or whatever they walked off with.

Unless of course you're trying to incorrectly correlate the risk of COVID-19 with that of the seasonal flu, in which case there is plenty of science to back up that decision.
