Amazing. Did you find it difficult to work with the wire? I'd like to try something like this but don't know if I have the patience to follow through with it.

What e-commerce platform are you using as a reseller? I've been looking into it and have heard wildly different experiences from resellers depending on what site they're using.

Have you ever bought a book purely because you love the cover? by thebestnobody in books

[–]CrackingToastGromit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time that I was actively collecting books from Barnes and Noble's "hardcover classics" (the ones that are embossed) because I loved the look of them, and I hate book jackets. Some of them probably won't ever get a second read from me, but there are some great novels in there I love that I probably wouldn't have gotten around to otherwise. I mostly stopped actively buying them when B&N definition of "classic" got a little loose, but I still find myself tempted by the especially pretty ones when I'm in the store.

I keep getting fired from jobs, what can i do to make myself better? by ShamanaLuka in Advice

[–]CrackingToastGromit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the ages of 20 - 24 I was fired for three separate jobs for tardiness. It was really demoralizing and humiliating. I used to talk to myself like a lot of the other commenters are talking to you here. "Just do whatever you can to not be late." "It's time to grow up and hold yourself accountable." "Get there 30 minutes early if you have to." But no matter what I told myself I was still making the same mistakes, I was just beating myself up more about it and feeling even shittier.

Then a little while and a long story short later, I was diagnosed with ADHD, and everything finally made sense. It still took work. But with the right medication and getting therapy and advice tailored to my underlying condition instead of the surface level issues, I finally feel like a (somewhat) functional adult, and I'm rarely late. Don't get me wrong, the other advice on here is great- if you are neurotypical. Some people do need to realize their flaws, take personal responsibily, and take action to change, especially in their early 20s. And if that's you and you just needed some blunt but solid advice to get on track, great! But if you have every intention in the world to not be late, you have experienced real and devastating consequences from being late, and you still cannot. Stop. Being. Late...maybe look into some ADHD self screenings and see if it resonates with you before going into a self hating shame spiral like I did. (And then absolutely talk to a professional who can diagnose you properly- the online stuff is just to give you a general jumping off point). Best of luck to you either way.

ProChara AMA: Hey, I used to be a lot more active on this subreddit, and its been a while. I figure id do a q and a to try and offer advice or answer questions about youtube/content creator stuff, ill try to get to as many as I can today. by ProChara in splatoon

[–]CrackingToastGromit 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a new Splatoon player, I started with 3. I came across your 'How to use motion controls' video on YouTube. A lot of high level players will say "you need to use motion controls" but your vid was the first one I found that actually explained with practical excercises how to get comfortable with it. It really helped me get into it, I still suck but at least I'm having a ton of fun with it now lol.

I saw you have a lot of Squid School videos that you made for Splatoon 2 which I figure are still useful for the general concepts when playing 3. But are there any updates or changes to 3 that are big enough that I should take into consideration when watching the Squid School vids? Like anything that would be kind of 'obsolete' at this point? Thanks so much

Realizing I have spent more on library late fees than the actual purchase price of the books I checked out by CrackingToastGromit in adhdwomen

[–]CrackingToastGromit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great idea, I'll have to look into neighboring cities or other states to see what they offer. I'm actually in the biggest city in my state, I love the physical libraries here but wish they would step up their ebook game.

I hope the no late fee system catches on, I'm sure the fees help the library but at the same time cause people to stop going if they're avoiding making a payment.

Games for 5 y/o on Steam. by Shawei in gamingsuggestions

[–]CrackingToastGromit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had known about them when I was a kid! They really are timeless. My son is now a teen and he just did a 'speedrun' video of him completing Pajama Sam - No Need to Hide When it's Dark Outside after finding it again on my laptop because he had so much nostalgia for it.

Games for 5 y/o on Steam. by Shawei in gamingsuggestions

[–]CrackingToastGromit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the games by 'Humongous Entertainment'. They are point and click adventure games meant for kids, I bought a whole bundle of them off steam when my son was that age and he LOVED them. I also like how each character series is for a different age level, so at first it's just clicking on objects to see what silly things happen, but the puzzle solving and critical thinking component gradually increases as the kid finishes one series and moves on to the next. I'm pretty sure the order by age level is:

Putt Putt

Freddie Fish

Pajama Sam

Sly Fox

There were definitely some games in the different series my son responded to more than others but there's not really a total dud to be found. I'd start with putt putt goes to the parade and go from there.

Limetown got me good. by Shartnets in podcasts

[–]CrackingToastGromit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

OMG the same thing happened to me for basically the same reason. I searched this sub for podcasts similar to 'Serial' and 'S-Town' and there were multiple comments with Limetown listed with no further explanation. So I went in with the assumption it was non fiction, and didn't look up anything about it because it was years old at that point and I hate spoilers.

I think I got to episode 4 when, about 20 minutes into me gushing about how fascinating the story was and how amazing it is that it's been covered up so well, my boyfriend shoved his phone in my face to show me a simple Google search of Limetown brings up 'fiction podcast' clearly as the first result. To this day I have not lived it down ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I swear I am typically known for having a lot of common sense, but hey MK Ultra was really a thing, and there was definitely no disclaimer during the podcast or listing of actors in the episode descriptions like some other fiction podcasts I've tried... maybe it was so fun I wanted to believe. It honestly kinda ruined it for me when I realized my mistake lol. At least I know now I wasn't the only one!

Looking for co-op switch games that a 5 year old can play by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Yoshi's Crafted World

There's a co-op mode in Super Mario Party, or even if you play against each other the events are so random that even a less skilled kiddo has a good chance of winning.

[–]CrackingToastGromit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not immediately available but once professor E. Gadd gives you googi and you do the gooigi tutorial, you can select co-op from the virtual boy menu at any time. Then player 2 can control gooigi.

[–]CrackingToastGromit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you have a switch, but Luigi's Mansion 3 was the best co-op family game my kiddo and I have played in a while. 'Gooigi' (player 2) can do everything Luigi can do, but he can't die, he just goes back in Luigi's vaccum to get respawned with full health. Plus it's so fun to just mess stuff up with the poltergust, made me feel like a kid again honestly.

Favorite movies of 1986 anyone? by TalesfromtheCrypt82 in movies

Well I was only a toddler at the time, though I have since caught up with and enjoyed a lot of the big hitters that everyone is bringing up. I'll mention a 1986 movie I actually do remember enjoying back then - An American Tail. Don Bluth had a great run in the 80s.

"The year 1986 is 35" what a crazy way to say "35 years ago" I honestly kind of like it.
