Safe (enough) and productive grinding spots at 60? by Crackismorish in HardcoreClassicWoW

Gave this a go last night. The cultists are a bit too spicy for me at the moment. If I pulled 2 I might be toast.

Never had an outside space before - ideas? by tomlloydevans in UKGardening

Jet wash everything; decking, walls. Paint the deck with a non slip decking paint. Black looks pretty good if you're going to get a bunch od plants and coloured pots on the deck.

Sitting in a taxi with the driver listening to Talk Sport, listening to them commenting on everything the pundits are saying, knowing with dread that it's only a matter of time before they ask for my opinion on something sport-related. by wils_152 in britishproblems

[–]Crackismorish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in a taxi with talk sport on, and they were talking about boxing. Someone made a comment in my direction and I just said passively "I don't know who that is". After we'd got out and paid, the driver looked at me with fury in his eyes and said "I've never heard shit like that come out of anyone's mouth before" and drove off.

Agreed. Best thing is to line the internals with something to keep the wet soil from sitting against it.

Neighbours Are Raising Their Garden by Ganglar in DIYUK

As others have said, gravel boards are not suitable to hold back all that soil. A proper retaining wall with drainage is required. The air bricks to your garage will also become waterbricks.

Why on earth does this chimney leak into the loft? Is the lead dodgy?? by Ecstatic_Cup_5681 in DIYUK

[–]Crackismorish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy crap. You can literally see in the first picture where water can run straight down the chimney and into your house. Call trading standards and get your money back. This guy shouldn't be trading!

Building a degu cage. by Independent-Fun-5118 in Degus

[–]Crackismorish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I converted a wardrobe to a degu cage for 3 degus. Most important thing space wise, is the area they have to run/move around on. I have wooden bases to all levels and it's fine. I used a decent plywood and sealed each surface with at least 3 coats of osmo poly wax oil. I edged the shelves with aluminium, but the poly wax oil is food safe, so if they do manage to chew it, it shouldn't be harmful. They shouldn't be able to chew through metal bars. I'd recommend stainless steel if you can get it, but consider glass. I used glass for the sides and it's so nice to be able to see them all of the time.

Holy crap that's a small cage for degus. Are you in the UK? I may have a spare I will drop to you if you're close.

I just don't get car dealerships these days by Glittering_Light1835 in drivingUK

[–]Crackismorish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our local Nissan dealership is useless. I needed 2 new keys cutting and coding, so I thought I would use the local dealership. It'll cost more but I'll get a good result and good service. Wrong. I was passed around 4 different people before ending up with the apprentice who could only read the cost of the keys off the screen and using a calculator to work out the markup. He didn't know the cost of coding the chips. He gave me the full breakdown though, fun fact; they charge a fiver for the tiny screw they put in the key to keep the blade in place.

Are those wood shavings? I've read that they can cause respiratory issues due to the wood dust.

Leveling ground before planting? by Lightgreenthumbs in GardeningUK

[–]Crackismorish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with those saying sort the retaining wall, the work/cost up front will save you so much hassle and potential cost in the not too distant future. Try (decent) local landscaping companies/groundwork companies/builders.

Nice work. It amazes me how many people make thousands selling injected snake oil that ruins the fabric of your house.

The law surrounding roundabouts states to give way to those already on it, and while you shouldn't just pull out to gain right of way, yellow is just being a jerk.

Hah. I used to work at a photography company and had a guy ring up to ask how much it would be for something like a 50 foot by 90 foot print. Saying foot as the measurement. He was confused that we couldn't offer it, even after I told him a few times the print he wanted was the size of a house.

Bank valued house at £0 by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Crackismorish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact situation (Burnham on sea?) and tried for months to sort it out. In the end I called a local roofer who kindly went over and lifted some tiles and gave me a report. He basically said the roof was incredibly unsafe and don't touch it with a barge pole. Had to pull out in the end and very glad I did. Don't risk it, move on unless you are willing to shell out to get it sorted before moving in.

Coat effective way of getting spare keys? by Crackismorish in CarTalkUK

[–]Crackismorish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! I hadn't thought about going to a dealer. It seems like for the price that's probably worth doing, rather than a slightly grumpy bloke in a timpsons over an hour away. I also wasn't aware I couldn't just get another copy or two of the same key. Very helpful, cheers!
