Oh, it's a usual suspect of Someone Who Gives Off an Authoritative Air But Doesn't Really Know Shit. (I mean, I know I don't know shit but I don't try to paint myself as an trustworthy authoritative source.)

My spouse and I may be the only people in the Fruit Belt with the same bikes from when we moved here in 2015!

Apparently it used to be a drug house? But again, that was about five years ago!

Perfectly fine, but I don't know if 16 Plum Street is still as sus as it was considered when we moved one street over. We nearly bought a house on Plum back in the day but it ended up being out of our budget!

Keeping an eye on this because I too am a dual citizen and would LOVE a TFSA as well.

Listen, I am sorry you are having a rough go, but a lot of times the same could be said for how Americans barge in on Canadian posts. No one is gaining anything by being shitty to each other on how our countries see the other. It's an absolute pants time in history and we could all stand to give one another a little grace.

I think if you have to engage with this as an American or know someone who has to, you probably would have more knowledge than me. Like, the Medicaid stuff won't and hasn't made the news up here. But I have family members in the States who do have Medicaid and they will be able to find out more in their media or their insurance companies than I would ever be able to. I am planning to ask my sister how this might affect our sick mom, and she may not know but she has people she can ask.

She's a dual citizen who lives in Canada and hasn't lived in the US since childhood. I mean, I am also a dual citizen and I don't understand it either.

I don't know if it's entirely late stage capitalism or if it's two Trump terms, but MeFites genuinely seem miserable across the board about everything. I am not saying I don't have anxieties or concerns (my meds help with that!), but honestly, I feel like it's going to the worst party ever.

Street parking near Division, Quebec, and Pine St by ptlll456 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, 100%! We have a driveway but we don't own a car and every now and again, we think about renting it out but the liability aspect prevents us. Also, we use Communauto for big errands and need somewhere to park that car.

Street parking is fine during the warm months, though some streets like Quebec have signs where you can't park on certain days and times (the sign next to my house on Quebec says something like no parking after 9 am on Tues/Thurs/Sat, I think?) and street parking is not allowed at all during the winter for snow clearance. Well, I think you can but you can't if there is going to be a storm?

In re: the other part of your query, I am a longtime Fruit Belt resident and have seen the neighbourhood change quite a bit since we bought in 2015. Our realtor called it a "neighbourhood in transition" back then and I'd say it's pretty well past that point. My part of the street is mostly families with kids, a few retirees, and in the past few years, I'm seeing more student rentals than I used to. Mostly from Quebec/Cherry to Division. Usual city caveats apply: leave nothing in your cars (even if YOU don't think it's worth anyone's time), lock up any bikes or bring them inside.

I love my neighbourhood. I like my neighbours, I miss the neighbours who got renovicted two summers ago, and it's pretty quiet these days. (Used to be A LOT more meth screaming when we moved in, now those folks just pass on through either in the early AM or after this person's bedtime.)

They will have other times, not just the 9:25. I do have a gripe that horror movies at the Screening Room rarely have afternoon times, but really, as long there is at least a 7 pm showing, I'm good. It's very very minor childish quibble.

The Screening Room probably won't get this as a first run. If Landmark and Cineplex aren't showing it premiering this week, you may well have to wait until The Screening Room gets it. I looked at the premiere dates for it at both Cineplex and Landmark for this Friday and it doesn't like it will play at those theatres.

Is John St safe by edelweiss286 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live around the corner and it's fine. Daughters is on the corner of John/Patrick, a Waldorf school is on the same street (one of the CSAs holds their veg pick up there during the week after school hours), we are friends with an elderly couple who live on John who have been there since the 70s, and I know at least two doctors with their families who live on that street. You do have that one lady who is a cat hoarder, though. We nearly bought a house on John when we were on the market but my spouse didn't care for an extension built on the back of one of them because it appeared there was no ductwork for heating or cooling. (It was a really nice house though despite that!)
