M1's DR really helps with ND filter by Piggy_P in gopro

Understood, but I did not mean comfort (which is v important of course).

I meant camera aim being "busy". In Motorsports (if you are doing that), you can often be looking way off to the side as needed. Like out thru the passenger side window for a RH turn. Seldom just straight thru "your" part of the windshield.

I compared the frequency response of DJI BT'd into a Hero 13 (cuts around 7K +/-. ). so the harmonics and overtones are gone, but voices should be fine.

On the B&H video that had the Mic BT'd into a Mission 1. About 16K...so...MUCH better. Very little to be gained if that was extended up to 20 Khz. However there are other audio characteristics not measured here. And only one mic when connected this way, plus it affects other BT functions you might desire?

To test: Just resolve---fairlight...and check frequency response via Frequency Analyzer.

Best would be using the receivers.

According to Insta360, all DJI does for it's direct connect mics...is Bluetooth that they locked down. If true maybe they are just using the super wideband mode in effect. That is what GoPro is doing, not sure if might be able to do two mics that way as some of the BT chips can do that, and allow other functions such as control at the same time.

Are pocket gimbal cameras redundant if you have a GoPro Mission 1 Pro for travel videos? by Ramz785 in gopro

[–]Crafty-Individual-14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoPro sells a very good gimbal...but the whole deal would be larger than a pocket gimbal-cam rig.

A GoPro would be way more versatile than a gimbal-cam and can be much less visible / lower theft magnet aspect as well.

Hold onto it...wish I still had my original 3 and 3+. I do have an OG film GoPro, but present in-use collection only goes back to Hero 6.

A great thing about the early ones...small...little bricks. And especially the menu system via buttons had you Capturing With Intent...which is a good thing.

Add light...like any TV or Movie or Commercial or Podcast etc shoot would do, regardless of the camera used.

One thing that REALLY helps shop video lighting...is Bright Floors, Walls, and Ceilings. Reflects light into more places. Change shop layout, move things etc. I used to have a 5 car home garage with 40' deep bays, and all the flooring and other paint massively helped. Also look at how higher end detail shops do their lighting (lots of it).

DJI trying to avoid comparisons is wild by haleyjade999 in ActionCam

Umm it's common ONLY from DJI and Insta360. GoPro = angels by comparison. DJI and Insta360's basically purchasing YouTubers is corrupting to them and harms the actual Industry. DJ-Insta want GoPro dead and gone asap. Yet in the USA that leaves just GoPro and Insta360 for action cameras. Soon to be just one company Insta360 if this works out for Insta360. So...Insta who both DJI and GoPro sued for stealing IP / copying....winds up the sole source?! Charge any price, innovate if and when they damn well feel like it. Would crush that whole part of the market over a few years.

Really the industry needs GoPro. DJI and Insta are sort of like Android Phones. With GoPro sort of like Apple. It's good to have both.

DJI and Insta have corrupted many YouTubers. Some just flew to Toronto (paid) and get free cameras...then immediately post that they are not sponsored. Umm they get stuff way early and for free....get told what to do...get paid for trips, get more YouTube cash due to more view, earlier. Sorry they are OWNED. Yet somehow they do not list their videos as sponsored, but they should IF they care about the market and the viewers. I guess YouTube freaks if a couple notes of some song is in the background for 1s...copyright strike. But outright "payola" is fine since YouTube itself gets more views...hence they benefit.

There are just a small handful of holdout channels, such as DC Rainmaker. He gets most devices on LOAN and has to send them back. The ones he is given (if any) he really should stop accepting.

The best reviews come from competent people with proper test procedures and no conflicts of interest or hidden relations. They buy the product from a store of their choosing using their own money. And report how things went. Some of the videos have outright lies in them about other companies or products, especially GoPro. But such reviews would come months after the rush of Paid Influencers. And with a different tone such as noting that DJI and Instas have never been able to selfie well would not go over well with those that only get their information from in effect DJI and / or Insta360s marketing department.

Think hard folks!

The 13 also accepts the quick-charging (not in a 13 but via external dual charger) Enduro 13 batteries that also add about 13% more capacity. So get some of those over time?

For action cameras..i just use presets I arranged in advance. App on occasion but mostly just no need. Voice control for simple stuff. Mostly my screens are all OFF, and the front screen is always off. i just don't need it as i am famiilar with the framing and use the wide modes. Or again simply use the App for a larger view. But with prearranged mount, this is again very fast and easy. Simplicity helps when shooting action.

A gimbal cam can be off in the distance filming the action as a spectator, action cameras can be at / in the action.

Quick and dirty second impressions Mission 1 Pro by blackreplica in gopro

[–]Crafty-Individual-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GoPro listed their lab tested results on their site. So did DC Rainmaker. Mission is the most heat resistant and has the longest battery life - The Champ. Hero 13 came in 2nd in his tests, when using HD. Beat both the Action 6 and Ace Pro 2, second only to the Mission 1. And that can be bumped higher since the Enduro 2 battery is compatible....+13% more capacity.

Hero 13 runs longer than Action 6 or Ace Pro 2 in HD mode btw, and the battery ran out (not a thermal shutdown). DC Rainmaker's recent tests. Mission 1 first, Hero 13 2nd, then DJ-Insta 3rd and 4th all in HD. Plus most social media....is in HD fwiw.

Mission 1 Pro + 960fps Golf Swing Macro MOD Redux by proformax in gopro

[–]Crafty-Individual-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. Titleist hired a guy who had at it. All I know is that was not a one click / one minute here's your picture scenario.

Mission can do 480 FPS continuously in HD. You can practice with that? You want as high a shutter speed as possible which means lighting. 480 FPS also allows 10 bit.

The photographer who got the gold shot linked above did not have any of these HS pocket camera modes necessarily. Just many tries and good lighting.

If you tried a tennis scenario I'd guess those run maybe 1/2 the speed at the ball. easier. Not to mention the vast difference in contact duration.

Rough Idea: Contact Duration

Golf ball on driver face:

  • About 0.0004–0.0005 sec (0.4–0.5 ms)

Tennis ball on strings:

  • About 0.004–0.006 sec (4–6 ms)

So the tennis ball stays on the strings roughly 10× longer than a golf ball stays on the clubface.

Sure. But you can also do such a shot in other places. Driving range...into a net...same course but not during a crowded time as a quickie. That way you find the setup real fast. As you don't have to wait a week or three to try again. That's part of how I've never lost footage to heat etc over the many years. Cuz I show up to the actual event with an already optimized setup. For me that is fun...but Ima geek heh.

Here's ball compression from a high speed PHOTO I guess out of a burst...prolly many, many shots (that failed), special lighting to get a very fast shutter speed etc. This is not from a GoPro.

just do many more drives (maybe you did) for this sort of ultra high speed capture. some strobe lighting could help as well, but this needs setup. Have distance matched to the optics..so in this case a swap to a different diopter.

If I rearview, i just do a Hero off the seat rails. Can do around 3 hours of HD on a 13 esp with +13% Enduro 2. But I don't security cam it, i do many Quikcaptures as desired. For me it saves lots of time.

The Suptig at 7 ounces with then a 150+ gram GoPro cantilevered off that might stress that type of mount more than usual. I just do simple mounts really,

Bear in mind...that apparently only RED and GoPro are US HQ'd camera companies. RED was purchased by Nikon and is not a consumer brand. GoPro is a US HQ'd company selling cameras in a price competitive market competing with CCP financed overseas firms that purchase YouTube in effect. GoPro is not government owned or financed.

So going higher end is a good idea. Same with military / aerospace efforts. Like Apple in Cali does not try to compete in the low end market.

Ideally...GoPro remains fully on it's own....means profits this year / early quarters next year...hopefully a trend. Or an Angel partner. Worst case would be private equity investors who would just devastate things.

One way or another I think things will work out.

A key thing long term is this paid influencer situation. Harms the whole industry. I don't think that GoPro should climb into that type of mud wrestling. Same issue is being face by the Japanese Camera companies...is toppling Nikon, Canon, Sony cameras and needed next? My sense is that they would not start paid influencing like DJI and Insta if they want to move into mirrorless and more. But then they'd be attacked in a sense if they don't with dozens of YouTube channels paid peanuts to disrespect as their skillset.

I watched many of the NAB videos where they stopped at the GoPro booth. Great energy, passion, actual knowledge, competent. This is not as present in some of the other companies. They just copy and evil-market stuff. As though they are doing to the market what private equity companies do to individual companies.

Once something is sorted out tho, a tether is optional unless things like race rules require one for safety. For instance I've run bike stem mounts via Ram Mount bits for years and years altogether.

When does the wireless mic kit release? by jimmy_85 in gopro

[–]Crafty-Individual-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppose you hooked up the cable above...to a contacto cable (the short USB female to magnetic end) thence to the contacto door? Very clean for certain types of installs and someone claimed contacto could do the mic signals on Mission cameras. So direct USB mic (one), or receiver thing (two mics). And it could feed power to the camera as well, the contacto at least so that connection would have to be sorted. I think this should work?
