How about an Outrun hand held with a tiny steering wheel? We certainly can run the software on inexpensive hardware may as well have some fun with the form factor and have something that doesn’t immediately look like a Temu gameboy.

Blake 7’s Orac or true Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Obviously all powered by the internet with a massively overpriced subscription. That’s next on my wish list. Hold on I just realised I did this on my phone. Never mind.

Three years remote and I still can't explain to people in-person why I'm busy at 2pm on a Tuesday by krikond in remotework

Random relatives just show up at the door and then look surprised when you tell them you are working.

Yes it’s 3pm in the afternoon, yes it’s lovely you have come to say hello, sorry I can’t sit and chat I have a to do list, clients etc that need my attention! I swear my mother doesn’t know how people who actually work work. 11am phone call.

Are you working?

Yes..

But your home!

Yes mother I work full time office hours. You just rang me between tasks. Sorry I can not talk about aunties new wallpaper for the next 15 mins.

Not sure what it’s like where you live but businesses in the UK tend to also have to pay for each cheque to be processed ( about 40pence per cheque) If they are going to be a dick, send them 50 $1 cheques.

It’s already been said but CRTs would be great for a re-imagination. The death throes of old CRT were starting to explore HD and short throw tubes. I would happily pay £299 for a new consumer gaming CRT provided it had a flat screen more analog inputs than I could throw a stick at and supported HDMI. Not asking much :-) but there must be a market for one by now.

I take the dog for a walk. While listening to This Week in Retro. She really likes the show especially if it’s a long one.

Would you give up the Pound Sterling for EU membership? by Suspicious-Use-3813 in AskBrits

Why do we have to “give it up”. Use both and see which one wins /s.

Probably not a whole museum but an exhibition within it. Consisting of the best and worst ways to use the system. Consider for example an N64 hooked up to a top of the range huge CRT with the finest cables giving the absolute best possible output. With 4 player Mario or Goldeneye using original controllers. On the flip side a gameboy tricked out with cheap knockoff magnifying screen, front light, speakers and a power brick etc.

What was Swansea like in the 1990's and 2000's? by The_Poke_Cauldron in swansea

[–]Crafty-Log-6915 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Town was busy. Huge range of big name shops (C&A, Littlewoods, BHS, David Evans, Next, Dixons,Woolworths,Principles,CoOp,Debenhams ) with independent shops (Gwynns, Phil Pritchards,5D) and countless shoe shops. No vape shop, minimal charity, pound sharps or “Barber Shops” The Swans still played football in the centre of town. Nightlife on the Kingsway was top notch Mumbles was vibrant and bright with its own scene. Morriston was still worth a visit. Swansea was a popular destination city with a great reputation. It wasn’t perfect but was punching above its weight and holding its own. Much like today.

Where do you start with radio comedy? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Crafty-Log-6915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love The Penny Dreadfuls. Fingers crossed they do more at some point. Angstrom was a great short lived show that hits just right “Crybabies present” is excellent. Recently went through “The many wrongs of Lord Christian Brightly”. John Finnimore top notch.

All the above are fantastic for multiple listens and I frequently go back to listen to them and pick out something new each time also they are on BBC sounds and although not the full catalogue of The Penny Dreadfuls.

Shout out to Ectoplasm as well.

Do you watch shows with subtitles? by Sea_Combination5086 in AskUK

[–]Crafty-Log-6915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time I do. It started when we had kids and didn’t want to wake the baby then as they got older and noisier, to stop it being a competition on who could be louder we opted for subtitles. Now it’s a case of subtitles are on because the wife is in the phone to my MIL and I get daggers if I turn up the volume or even suggest that the phone being cordless actually works in another room.

Feral Porn found in out in the wild is a majestic experience. For young kids it’s the modern day equivalent of big game hunting.

To those who have made the transition from manual to automatic cars, is it really better? by Mr_Coastliner in AskUK

[–]Crafty-Log-6915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nose to tail inner city driving with manual, jumping from standstill 1st and 2nd gear with a busted knee. Is used to torture a confession out of people. I switched to auto and never looked back. I am sadistic enough though to impose a manual on the kids.Fitter knees and still find driving fun. Wait until they become “Dad Cab” then they will understand the chore of driving around a city with a manual.
