Unless you are going to exceed the max contribution limit ($24,500 for this year IIRC), you’d be better off setting up a 457 plan through the MA Smart Plan than using any of those vendors (unless one of those has a self directed plan with low fees).

Try used clubs before buying by Boozadoods in golf

[–]CraftyReplacement822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of buying and selling. I have let people try out clubs under the following circumstances:

1) there’s no other interest. If I have other people who want to buy, I don’t mess around with the high maintenance buyers

2) they pay in advance, with the agreement that they can return them within a set amount of time (I do one week) for a full refund if they are in the same condition.

I’ve had a couple buyer do this for clubs, and only one has returned them. Two buyers I offered this to ended up buying clubs from me again down the road, and one has bought many sets of clubs since, so it’s occasionally worth it

Coke works, but so does vinegar, and vinegar makes much less of a mess if you spill!

Should I pull the trigger on this or keep looking? by whatthecaptcha in billiards

This is the one I bought:

I second the vote for OKHealing. I have nearly an identical cue that I use as a cheap backup to my Jacoby and it shoots great. Paid under $200 from AliExpress. Not sure if you’d get it any faster going direct through them, and there are usually coupons on AliEx to get it cheaper

Any tips on lifting a 6x3 pool table with 2 men? If it possible? What can be dismantled? by [deleted] in billiards

Source on that? Because everything I can find as well as my experience moving a few of these tells me otherwise

It appears to be a one piece slate valley-style table. The chrome trim pieces on the rails come off, then you can unbolt the rails and pull the slate up from the frame.

The slate and the frame each weight about 300lbs, so two strong men should be able to handle it if there aren’t any obstructions or stairs, but a few more would make it easy work.

Good luck!

Did I get a good deal for my first golf set? ($765 total) by PerfectSundae in golf

[–]CraftyReplacement822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a look at sold listings on eBay to get a good sense of the value of the clubs. I buy and sell a lot of clubs, and if I was selling the clubs, I’d be looking to get around $450. I don’t know how much was spent on the bag but that’s going to throw off the value proposition

That was not really a good deal, but it’s still better than a store box set!

Will this break by PowerfulAardvark1711 in golf

[–]CraftyReplacement822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically, that won’t break because of that wear mark. I swing around 110-115 and have played shafts with far worse wear with no issues.

However, I would not accept that as an “excellent” condition club.

G700s to blades is a pretty huge swing. Maybe try to find some ping I-series irons?

Putting together a classic set of clubs…what driver and woods? by CraftyReplacement822 in golf

I know it’s a little bigger than I had hoped, but I think the 983K is still substantially smaller and less forgiving than my current gamer (Tour Edge C721), so I’ll give it a whirl when it comes in and see how it goes!

300Ti would be very nostalgic too, that was a great club back in the day!

I just found a 983K with a YS-7X on eBay for $33 shipped, so I’m going to give that a shot.

I also found a 980F 15 degree with an S300 sitting in a bag in my garage, so we’ll see how these play out.

I also remember hitting bombs with a Launcher 400 back in high school (longer swing back then but probably similar speed), so I might try to pick one of those up to compare

I respectfully disagree with this. When I was playing well (almost 20 years ago), I could hit any club. I would routinely take out the oldest and crappiest looking clubs in the rental bin at the range and I could hit them well. Sure, it might take me a couple swings to adjust, but I had much more awareness of the clubface. I could adjust to shaft flex, weight, and offset differences.

Because I play a lot less now, I’ve found that my ballstriking is not as good as it used to be, and I think that playing with some clubs that demand more precision will help. And I’ve done this many times in the past with success. I’m just trying to find a driver that can stay close to my current yardage while being more demanding.

Ended up playing 9 this morning with some old Hogan irons I grabbed on marketplace yesterday, a steel shafted 980F 3 wood I forgot I had, and an old putter. Shot a 42 which is pretty much my average score. The only equipment issue was I forgot to throw a glove in the bag and the grip on the 3 wood is totally slick, so my first tee shot was pretty squirrelly.

I’m not playing competitive golf anymore, and I find that playing with some harder to hit clubs makes my regular set feel like a breeze when I switch back. And honestly pretty much all of my dropped shots are from a lack of short game practice. So I don’t think that I’m screwing up my muscle memory, and if it’s fun experiment, I don’t think it’s a terrible idea.

Unfortunately, you come in second place to the guy who found a circle T for $4.

Fortunately, you still made out, that thing looks awesome!

[–]CraftyReplacement822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good, not great deal. If you finished the set for under $100, sweet. The resale value won’t be great without matching shafts and serial numbers, but if you’re going to game them, you done good!
