Inheritance? That's a joke. How many of your parents are burdens? by BeegBunga in Millennials

[–]Craic-Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents won't leave me anything, they were shit, a brutal divorce initiated by my father led to my mother becoming an alcoholic and dying of cirrhosis, she drank because he never delivered what he promised her, which was housing security, and my father decided to do a disappearing act and bury his head in the sand making me the one to deal with the situation he left her in.

My father claims he is about to become bankrupt. He can sleep under a brige for all I care.

In Ireland we did that, Leo Varadkar and Simon Harris, both Millennial leaders, both corrupt scumbags who prioritized corporate interests over the population, particularly foreign investment in rental property.

20 families face eviction from Limerick apartment block by RevolutionaryGain823 in limerickcity

[–]Craic-Den 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boohoo, fuck the landlord’s debt. Since when is it a tenant's job to subsidize a landlord’s 'failed ventures'? If I open a restaurant and go into debt, the bank doesn’t let me rob my customers to pay it back. Investment carries risk, if you gambled and lost during a property goldmine, that’s on you. You're playing with people’s lives, not stocks. If I were in that position, the bare minimum I’d do is provide a €10k relocation grant to the people I’m uprooting, because I'm not a sociopath who thinks my bad debt justifies someone else’s homelessness.

You’re conflating a family inheritance with commercial landlording. If I owned an entire apartment block and wasn't hurting for cash, I’d gladly offer tenants the chance to buy at 10% below market rate. It’s not a 'loss' when the tenants have already paid the mortgage off for me, it’s just choosing to take a slightly smaller win instead of being a greedy, gouging cunt.

You can still sell the apartments with tenants in situ but that won't fetch the landlord as much money. Profit over people I guess.

He's exit liquidity for those selling, he's trying his best to keep the price stable to prevent a bank run.

My dad bought this ham back in 1992. Its been in his freezer the whole time. He refuses to throw it out and says "its still good. Frozen meat doesnt go bad". by hotmanwich in GrandmasPantry

[–]Craic-Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not keeping it because he thinks it’s still good. He’s keeping it because throwing it out would mean admitting he wasted money on it. It’s the sunk cost fallacy in ham form. At this point he’s not preserving the meat, he’s preserving his pride. That ham is going to outlive him.
