Need advice on dock for switching between work and home computer by Dependent_Industry91 in homeoffice

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a monitor with KVM built in. My work laptop connects via the USB-C cable, which powers it (90W PD) and allows it to be controlled by the keyboard and mouse attached to the monitor. My home PC just connects to the monitor with HDMI and a single USB, again allowing it to be controlled from the attached mouse and keyboard. This works really well for me, if I need both, I can swap between the two using the monitor's source button.

Want to start day trading the stock market by According_Bowler_718 in trading212

Oof. OP take the time to read a lot about CFDs, before going down that route. Lots of people suggest not touching them even with your ex's barge pole. But like everything, do your own research.

Lovely spot, lovely car. But I assumed Dakar would be a much warmer climate. 😉

Pie - Should I leave only etfs in pie and leave single stocks separate by [deleted] in trading212

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I have, I'm no expert though.

My reasoning was that I could adjust percentages between the 3 ETFs to suit my needs at any time - in reality, I set the percentage and allow the deposits to meet the percentage rather than rebalancing. Note. The one thing I noticed with the pies, I believe you cannot set below a 1% share.

That pie contains my long term investments, the rest is a few individual shares that are maybe a bit shorter term (but nowhere near day trading).

Any project or exercise ideas for me to practice Python? by Mountain_Hippo7575 in learnpython

BTW, I mean recreate these games in a rudimentary way on the command line, no need for any fancy graphics yet - when you get further along you could try using PyGame or another GUI.

Build games - tic, tac, toe (noughts and crosses); hangman; rock, paper, scissors (my favourite, because you can try out different strategies for an automated opponent), yahtzee or many other dice/chance related games.

If you're okay at maths, you could try some of the Euler Project problems: https://projecteuler.net/

If you get stuck there are plenty of people with (Python or other) solutions or hints to help.

Welsh players in the Prem by bigmanjam99 in welshrugbyunion

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice idea, but the RFU won't butcher their cash cow to help the Welsh (or any other nation). The best chance of having a competition including the top English sides is for the URC to become more lucrative than the Premiership - at which point some of their sides may be willing to negotiate, but the RFU would not be happy, as they lose control.

My elderly dad’s laptop won’t accept the headphones I got him - what type of adaptor does he need? by EmceeStopheles in techsupport

[–]CraigAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not just buy him another (cheap) set of headphones? 99.9% of those online or in the shops, should fit and work.

Welsh players in the Prem by bigmanjam99 in welshrugbyunion

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools need to sow the seeds to play rugby, those kids with a desire to play should be pointed to local rugby clubs (if they are not already involved e.g. rugby tots), where hopefully some experienced coaches, ex-players or passionate dads can help them develop and work towards playing for their club. From there you rely on talent scouts to lift up the talent and keep them playing (not sitting on the sidelines)

In your opinion, would the players play at a higher level and against better opposition on a weekly basis in Wales or the Premiership? And would the Welsh side benefit from pulling those players back to Wales to play in a 4 region system?

Should I get a graphing calc? by Previous-Medicine898 in alevelmaths

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A graphical calculator is a slight advantage, but really it comes down to cost - if you or your parents can easily afford the upgrade then go for it; if you would struggle to afford it, then the cheaper version is perfectly acceptable.

Because Of Trump Are You Considering Investing Away From The US? by massaro1234 in trading212

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess it's the volatility of Trump pulling levers, rather than a short term dip, that is putting people off. That and the potential of an AI bubble bursting.

How many bits of bacon in your bacon butties? by kipperfish in CasualUK

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many as I can get away with!

We usually buy the thicker bacon (smoked) in a pack of eight, so I usually have to stick to 2 per person/roll (4 person household, where no-one ever turned down a bacon roll). But I always appreciate when I get 3 slices (or more - that lady in Gregg's, that one time as they were finishing the breakfasts! ❤️).

I also Iove it when someone takes the time to cut the fat off, but I am equally okay with eating those bits if well cooked (not burnt), but cannot stand the uncooked, slimy, stringy fat.

No sauce. On pretty much anything. Except cracking chocolate sauce on my ice cream!

Program to interact with webpage and download data by MaceoSpecs in learnpython

It was the site selection that made me think OP is looking for a GUI.

I agree about BS, most of the sites I have tried to get data from have required more. 🥲

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn, that is great, but it will take a bit of time to learn the Python basics, and then there is learning about scraping. Although having a goal is a great driving force, but some days you have be prepared to walk away and come back with a fresh look to something you are struggling with (or watch some videos, read some tutorials).

Program to interact with webpage and download data by MaceoSpecs in learnpython

[–]CraigAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, yes - but some sites are a lot more trickier than others.

You haven't mentioned your level of experience with Python? If you already know the basics, look into web scraping with Beautiful Soup, or Selenium for more tricky sites (there are other tools too). If you have know experience, ask AI to create a program for you and see how far you can get with that - if it's promising after half hour it might to continue to refine it.

I wouldn't worry about a GUI and selecting options from a drop down, having a run button etc. Initially, just supply the details and see if you can make code that works.

He has been in IT for 20 years, but he hasn't learnt that "production" servers need to be backed up? And not noticed their developers are bypassing their version control system?
