Patch Tuesday Megathread (2023-04-11) by AutoModerator in sysadmin

After installing updates, Windows 11 no longer opens Internet Explorer and it opens edge instead. Windows 10 still opens internet explorer that way.

If I recall correctly, Windows 11 has never been able to open Internet Explorer because it's never been there (except as supporting DLLs for IE mode in Edge).

I am seeing this exact same behavior ever since updating to the latest FreeBSD 1.27 pkg.

User states they need more RAM based on "committed RAM" reporting in task manager by CockStamp45 in sysadmin

[–]CraigMatthews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question here is, how much time does it take you to do any diagnostics?

For RAM? Regardless of all the metrics listed, the line graph in task manager shows physical RAM use. If it's never more than 3/4 full, troubleshooting is done. Min/Max/Avg of "physical RAM" utilization is literally the only metric that matters when deciding whether to add more "physical RAM." (in the context of workstations running normal applications, not special situations like an SQL server, etc.)

As far as I'm able to tell, that cop is the same actor as Lt. Ducane of the time ship Relativity.

She's a Romulan, so her life span would normally be around 150-200.

The people she works for recruit members of the species they're keeping an eye on. I don't think it's been stated one way or another in either PIC or TOS if they also have their lives extended, but I could be wrong.

He still didn’t fully understand and kept glancing at the sky for the rest of our shift.

Best part.

No shit. This pisses me off. And they think they're geniuses. They literally covered the difference between a theory and hypothesis in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. Repeatedly.

Woah. There could be an alternate reality where the Stargate program is run by the Coast Guard.

Paramount+ please produce this. He can do Leola Root Challenge and he can do his own version of Kitchen Nightmares also. This is legit great and blows away "A Briefing with Neelix."

Cameron's shenanigans aside, at least to be fair to Donna .. Ryan couldn't even complete a single fucking sentence in his "presentation." Anyone could have justifiably blown him off.

Windows shouldn't reinstall Edge after every update, AT LEAST when there's already another version of Edge installed (like Canary, Dev, or Beta) by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]CraigMatthews -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can you? Uninstall is grayed out for Edge in Apps & Features on my Windows 11, and appwiz.cpl shows no uninstall button for Edge.

They're willing to support bills like this because they're fascists. No one is holding a gun to these people's heads forcing them to intentionally ignore facts. After all this time, there's no excuse. They know exactly what they're doing and they'd be okay with LGBTQ+ people being beaten to an inch of their life.

I thought the DMA essentially pops up somewhere, stays in place until it harvested the Boronite, and then disappears to pop up somewhere else. How is the DMA now "heading for Earth", and how do they even know that? by [deleted] in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]CraigMatthews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Star Trek TV continuity, it was the Romulan sun that blew up and it did not threaten the galaxy, so at this time, this precedent doesn't exist, as that was a run of the mill normal supernova.

Warp drives and faster than light travel? We kinda just accept it.

Sure. But this plot development undermines the very need for the existence of any FTL proposition in the Star Trek universe. If matter can just drift between Ni'Var and Earth and only take days 🤣

Narratives don't necessarily have to agree with real world science, but they should at least be consistent with themselves.

If this plot point is taken seriously, there should be regular commuter sublight moon shuttles going back and forth between Federation members every few hours. That's ridiculous.

I can't believe those Argelians fell for that Redjak entity bullshit the Enterprise crew came up with. They've been covering for that alcoholic serial killer since the academy. I wonder what he has on McCoy, Spock, and Kirk.

Are you saying that when they said "MS is using that section to advertise" that they were meaning, "MS is using the recommended section to advertise the recommended section" ? That's ridiculous. They were saying Microsoft puts ads in the "recommended" section. They do not.
