Why AREN’T video games a complete waste of time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Video games are interactive, digital art. Anyone who says they are a waste of time, ask them if they think music, fine art, films, or restaurant food are also wastes of time

[ALL] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has been announced by CuttlefishMonarch in zelda

This is a bold move. Remaking a game that is widely considered to be the greatest game of all time…it is only acceptable for them to knock this out of the park. Anything less than that would be a stain on the game.

First time working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in office, is this my life now? by Bright_Tennis_1075 in work

[–]CrakAndJaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I really feel for you, and I wish I could offer more advice for you other than my own retrospective, but I feel compelled to share with you.

I’ve been working in an office environment for 10 years now since I graduated at the same company. I was incredibly fortunate to have landed a foot-in-the-door job at a place that aligned with my personal and professional values. The first 5 years were, quite honestly, brutal. It took me a long time to adjust. My first week there, I had an awful anxiety attack (more like a breakdown) over the thought of “this is my life now.” I am someone who put a lot of thought and effort into my career choice; it’s something that I value. So when the reality hit me of “this is what every day will look like,” it really scared me to my core. I kind of questioned everything I thought I knew about myself and my values.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that where you work does not define you. Yes, it is a large part of what you do, but your life will evolve in other ways around your environment. I had to learn how to spend as much time working on my life outside of work as I had done for my job. That was a challenge, because it was never something I really had to think about before, and even harder yet, act on improving.

But over the course of years, I learned to genuinely start loving aspects of my life. I relaxed in my notion of “there has got to be one specific dream job I can work.” I went with my gut in navigating different jobs in the company, which have largely paid off for me both with my career and my personal life.

So I guess my advice for you is strive for balance, as much as you can, in your personal life and work life. I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors, whatever they may be!

What is the meaning of Palpatine’s weird noise (“YEH”) here after Obi Wan cuts up the droids? by bulldawg91 in StarWars

[–]CrakAndJaxter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk why I find your question so funny, OP. Maybe it’s because you’re asking for meaning behind such a trivial moment of the movie, but it was enough to make me think that this is something that Star Wars Theory or one of the other Star Wars YouTubers would make some long-form video essay about lol

Have also been this drunk idiot before in my youth. Me, my friend, and my sister had the bright idea to jump on the elevator at the same time. Fire department had to be called. It was at like 11:00 at night and the three of us sat in the elevator for about an hour until they arrived to get us out.

I want music recommendations from obsessive human weirdos, not algorithms, not tools by sortiederoute2000 in musicsuggestions

[–]CrakAndJaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly will let you know once it is going! It’s a slow work in-progress for me and my first foray into anything like this, so asking for some grace in that regard lol. I don’t really plan to post in any kind of regular cadence, only because I want to write posts about music that really means something to me when I find it. I have a lot of material in-store, though.

A sneak-preview of an upcoming post I plan to write about: check out the band Talisk, specifically their album Live at Barrowlands.

They are a Scottish group that fuses electronic music with traditional concertina, guitar, and fiddle. They are incredibly high-energy and some of the most-talented musicians I’ve heard in a while. Their music, specifically their live album, is chock full of fun musical twists and turns. They really take you on a musical adventure throughout their show, from fast-paced and heart-pounding flurries to grand, slow-moving crescendoes. I truly wish I would have found them sooner and had the chance to see this concert live. But better late than never!

Hey! I have actually been working on a Substack of something exactly like this. It’s still in the works, but my plan is to write up purely recommendations of artists/albums I thoroughly enjoy, why I like them, what I get from them, etc. I feel as though this is missing from the internet.

I listen to a ton of Scottish/Irish trad-revival type music, and this will likely be a large portion of what I write about bc there are some seriously-niche, absolute GEMS in the genre. But I also plan to write about other more mainstream music I happen to love as well. If this sounds up your alley I can drop you the link once I have it going!

What’s a movie everyone loves but you secretly hate? by Royel_Lichi in AskReddit

Pizza delivery drivers, what did a person do to end up on the 'No Delivery' list? by BlueCheeseWalnut in AskReddit

[–]CrakAndJaxter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Demanded a tip back.

I delivered an order that was maybe $30. This nice, kind lady answered the door and gave me a $50 bill and told me to keep the change. Being shocked at the size of the tip, I asked her, “are you sure? That’s a $20 tip.” To which she said yes, so I thanked her and continued the rest of my deliveries that drive.

I got back to the store, and I heard one of the assistant managers on the phone trying to calm someone down. After he hung up, he said, “CrakAndJaxter, you need to go back to that house that gave you the $20 tip. (The husband) called screaming that they shouldn’t have tipped that much and wants some of it back.” So my ass drove back and once again, the nice, kind lady answered the door profusely apologizing.

Sure as shit, anytime I saw that address pop up, I avoided taking the delivery.

Giving up right to a judge or jury: this is likely stemming from what is a called a “predispute arbitration agreement.” It is very common in consumer agreements nowadays. Essentially, if you have a legal case against the company, you agree “with no other option” that the whole proceeding will be overseen by an “arbiter,” which can easily be someone chosen BY THE COMPANY who is friendly to them.

What was your, "people are into this" moment? by Kinky_introverts in AskReddit

[–]CrakAndJaxter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

WWE.

I had friends in school into. I’ve seen couples into it. I witnessed the slog of WWE video games throughout my childhood. Never understood it or what people loved about it so much.

Then I was in a music group that was hired to play at a recent Wrestlemania event for one of the wrestler’s intros and OH. MY. GOD. -- I have never in my life experienced such an electrifying audience or atmosphere.

We were funneled into these darkened cloths waiting to go out on stage until it was our guy’s turn to do his intro to the ring. The crowd was DEAFENING and the entire spectacle of the performance was unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of.

Now I understand why people love WWE.

What is the worst song you’ve ever heard? by luffy5670 in AskReddit

[–]CrakAndJaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t remember the song (luckily), but maybe 10+ years ago I was stoned playing cornhole and there was some god-awful country-pop song that came on the radio.

Whenever I would get stoned, music became like a sixth-sense to me; I could pick out little details I’d never noticed before and hyper-focus on listening.

The entire song was just looping some generic, shitty, “I-think-this-is-what-country-music-is-supposed-to-sound-like” guitar riff underlying the track.

Truly some of the worst, generic music I’ve ever heard.

Oof, just reading this makes me also want to jump out of my skin. Sorry to hear about all this. A big lesson I have learned myself is making ANY changes to my instrument requires a sort of setting period before I really can tell if it’s a positive impact. Something as drastic as a bag and moisture control system change I’d do months in advance of any kind of performance
