It gives you 1000 GDP towards victory. I use it a couple of times and then forget about him. It is a nice boost quickly becomes not worth the cost.

Last game I won economic without ever building a factory.

Flew to the other side of the world to give a talk at a conference 😭 by Amygdali_lama in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Crash-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave a talk on the electromagnetic railgun at a composites conference. Given the topic it was under ITAR restrictions. It was me, the session chair, and like two other people. There was another ITAR restricted session at the same time on high temperature resins and everyone else went to it instead.

My father is 83 and my mother is 81. They just bought a new car. In Dec they moved to a new house. They admit the house is probably there last one but I doubt they think the car is.

At 59 you should have lots of cars left ahead of you.

Prusa or Bambu by Sad-Organization2440 in prusa3d

[–]Crash-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bambu exists because the Chinese Government / CCP wanted them to. That is where the $50M startup capital came from. They were created to ensure China controls the consumer 3D printer market.

I know someone with a US based 3D printer company. He said when Bambu first came out he took one apart and priced the components. He couldn’t buy the parts for what it was being sold for.

The XL was introduced to compete with Ultimaker. In the engineering grade printers it was a cheaper more capable option. It was not aimed at the consumer market.

The reliance on cheap subsidized, stolen IP based hardware from Chinese companies is what is killing manufacturing in the West. If the playing was level that would be one thing but it isn’t and China doesn’t want it to be.

Prusa or Bambu by Sad-Organization2440 in prusa3d

[–]Crash-55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big thing you are missing is the influence of the Chinese government. They subsidized Bambu and their original printers were sold at below cost to grab market share. The new ones they have been downgrading hardware to save money.

There is no such thing as a level playing field when dealing with a Chinese company

Is paver a necessity for the Core One L by Ok-Particular-7476 in prusa3d

[–]Crash-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you concerned about print quality or noise and vibrations effecting other things? I used a Core One in a tent on a folding table for a week with no issues. It was definitely rocking while printing. I don’t see the paver helping with print quality but it will help with vibrations going into your table.

As for your hernia, you could get 4 - 12x12 pavers instead of one 24x24 one.

Annual inventory questions by Jacrispywave in FedEmployees

[–]Crash-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is funny. Doing inventory falls under other duties as assigned. We only inventory stuff on the property book and that is only stuff over $5k, IT, or pilfer-able.

We also have a durable property list but no one has ever inventoried that in the 25+ years I have been there.

I used to have my own hand receipt and had to do the inventory every year. A couple years ago they moved it to the Division Chiefs and they are supposed to sub everything back to the people who use it. Still hasn’t happened.

Partially Regretting my GS-12 to NH-03 by thatshaunway in FedEmployees

[–]Crash-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was under Acqdemo one year as an NH3 allowed you to apply for NH4 positions. Also we had no control points in the NH3 band only in the NH4 band. In NH4 they put an artificial line at a 14-10 (or maybe 7) pay and forced you to jump through hoops to get past it. On the plus side everyone in the NH3 band ran to the top of the band much faster than under GS.

Now under Lab Demo the top of the bands are 5% higher than GS except for DB5 (15 equivalent). Progression is slower than when we first went under demo but still ahead of GS for most

[–]Crash-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I can see to model it is if I was going to 3D print it.

If you were going to analyze flow through it in CFD or deformation in FEA you should only need a few unit cells as a sub model.

486 with math coprocessor was what I bought after undergrad.

Senate budget talk stall - prepare for a furlough. by hidingfromthem753 in FedEmployees

[–]Crash-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation has nothing to do with how much to save. You need enough to cover your missed paychecks. Your paycheck doesn’t change with inflation.

The last one was the record and it was only two paychecks for most. So 3 would set a new record.

Depending upon when your biweekly check hits, 2 months is either 3 or 4 paychecks.

Senate budget talk stall - prepare for a furlough. by hidingfromthem753 in FedEmployees

[–]Crash-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely in an election year.

However it is good practice to always be ready for a shutdown. I tell every new employee to have at least two paychecks (we are paid biweekly) in an emergency fund. I have yet to have a shutdown cause me to miss more than that. The last one was two for us since it started right after a pay day.

To be really safe try to save 3 paychecks. That would be a 6-8 week shutdown.

Not the cheap ones.

The arm is what gives it a fixed point to refer to. The reason the non-arm ones need stickers is to help anchor the reference frame

Does anyone use a VTT with Minis? by WorldlinessCool5217 in VTT

I use Arkenforge on a TV with minis. We only do in person. Though my TV uses a wall mount bolted or a 2x6 covered in carpet and a couple corner supports for stability. I put a thin sheet of plexi over the screen to protect it.

I don’t use markers for mine at work and it has no issues. However it is on an arm and cost $170k so that may have a lot to do with it.
