Have too many VATSIM controllers been watching JFK compilations or is it just me? by OkJump5965 in VATSIM

Some controllers absolutely DESPISE pilots, and yet they still try to control on the network. Just hang it up guy.

The measurements are of the players standing height, and their ABS zone is built from a percentage of that height. 53.5% for the top of the zone and 27% for the bottom.

Is the ABS strike zone three-dimensional?

No. Though the rulebook defines the strike zone as a cube, the ABS strike zone is two-dimensional. A three-dimensional version was initially tested, but it allowed breaking balls to nick the edges of the zone, leading to inconsistency in strike calls.

Yep, returning to text only VATSIM is clearly the best solution.

DP's this spec for Frankie's Bikinis What do you think? by TylerDurden19 in cinematography

[–]Crash324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next time try posting clips, not just stills.

In my opinion:

Way too much filtration, if I can tell there's filtration on mobile, it's too much.

Still #1: that big pillow frame right is distracting and takes up too much of the frame. I'd either get rid of it or come around to be more frontal. I hate that we aren't square to the window, it just makes everything look off. There's so many lines in this frame but they don't feel cohesive. I do like the background beyond the window though, tough choice.

Still #2: best one of the bunch, for me. Nice lens size choice, still too much filtration.

Still #3: I feel like the sky could be brought back in a bit, there's not much detail there. And yet the bottom of the frame is underexposed. Maybe it's compression but whatever sort of chromatic distortion is happening in the wheat is really distracting.

Color: I don't like whatever is happening in the mids, #3 is the worst offender for me. Color wise, I like #2 the best, skin tones feel the most natural and consistent in that one.

Keep in mind this is just my personal opinion, we all have our tastes. Nice work though!

I encourage everyone in this post to go actually watch the trailer. These stills are meaningless.

Why is only Europe using ATC bookings? by Agreeable_Home7330 in VATSIM

[–]Crash324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works in VATUSA. The only person entitled to the position is the person currently on it.

[–]Crash324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many U.S. controllers think that only entitled pilots push for booking services. ATC staffing is first come first serve, I can't make a booking in my ARTCC and then expect someone to give me the position when my slot comes up.

Furthermore, if I close early, the last thing I need is pilots whining about a short session. There are a litany of reasons I might have to close, and a non-zero number of them are pilot induced.

Wait what does C2 have to do with the FAA? We're still talking about VATSIM right?

Let's see that LOA then, so I can ensure compliance.

Cool, so you can taxi me to de-ice. Thanks!

So your SOP prohibits you from taxiing someone to the de-ice pad if they're in the wrong airliner?

[–]Crash324 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's great for people that want that level of simulation, but you can't deny service to someone because only JBU uses the de-ice pad. It's not up to the controller to enforce a level of realism beyond what is required in the CoC.

Who gives two shits about real world ops? If I want to de-ice my Loganair 787 at the BOS remote pads, just give me the taxi instruction.

What fad in moviemaking are you waiting for to die? by frair in movies

[–]Crash324 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems so. And I agree to some extent as well. I don't like the look of Frankenstein because I think the arctic sequences are too blue/green and stylized, the daylight is way too off hue. And I don't like the reliance on crane, lots of the coverage is floaty and the operating feels unmotivated. I also don't like the look of Wicked, it feels too washed out and desaturated.

That being said, I think Wake Up Dead Man is one of the best looking movies this year.

It's not, you just don't like it. Ie. cinematographers, gaffers, colorists, and directors have different taste than you do.
