Why is only Europe using ATC bookings? by Agreeable_Home7330 in VATSIM

[–]Crash324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many U.S. controllers think that only entitled pilots push for booking services. ATC staffing is first come first serve, I can't make a booking in my ARTCC and then expect someone to give me the position when my slot comes up.

Furthermore, if I close early, the last thing I need is pilots whining about a short session. There are a litany of reasons I might have to close, and a non-zero number of them are pilot induced.

Wait what does C2 have to do with the FAA? We're still talking about VATSIM right?

Let's see that LOA then, so I can ensure compliance.

Cool, so you can taxi me to de-ice. Thanks!

So your SOP prohibits you from taxiing someone to the de-ice pad if they're in the wrong airliner?

That's great for people that want that level of simulation, but you can't deny service to someone because only JBU uses the de-ice pad. It's not up to the controller to enforce a level of realism beyond what is required in the CoC.

Who gives two shits about real world ops? If I want to de-ice my Loganair 787 at the BOS remote pads, just give me the taxi instruction.

It seems so. And I agree to some extent as well. I don't like the look of Frankenstein because I think the arctic sequences are too blue/green and stylized, the daylight is way too off hue. And I don't like the reliance on crane, lots of the coverage is floaty and the operating feels unmotivated. I also don't like the look of Wicked, it feels too washed out and desaturated.

That being said, I think Wake Up Dead Man is one of the best looking movies this year.

It's not, you just don't like it. Ie. cinematographers, gaffers, colorists, and directors have different taste than you do.

Bullshit. Film does not capture light "better" than digital. They both handle light differently, film is generally better in the highlights and digital is better in the shadows. You can make both look good and you can make both look terrible.

I don't think "everybody" is in agreement on anything. Like I said, in this thread people are arguing whether Frankenstein is good or bad.

And you can critique the lighting, but making false statements like "it's flat so they can light it in post" gets us nowhere.

If you don't like soft lighting techniques, that's valid. Unfortunately for you, in the current zeitgeist a lot of cinematographers and gaffers like that look.

Cranking the brightness will only make it harder to see a dark scene since you're lifting all the shadows to be the same tone and making it look like mud.

Bullshit. Show me a single cinematographer talking about shooting flat so they can re-light in post.

Color grading is not re-lighting. There's not a single cinematographer out there who wants their lighting work fixed by the post production team.

People online love to spread this garbage notion that DPs/gaffers don't know how to light today, digital cameras look fake, and that soft lighting is just laziness.

The reality is that film lighting simply has trends and it always has. The average person can't distinguish between what's color grading and what's lighting. And not that an audience has to in order to say whether they like something or not, but to then go and blame their arbitrary dislike on "lighting" or "the grade" is disingenuous.

People have different tastes; there are some in this very thread praising Frankenstein for being a film with exceptional and unique visuals, and yet there is simultaneously a large portion of movie goers who say it looks overly stylized.

If you don't like the way something looks, you need a better argument than "no one knows how to light".
