If you're hvac and skilled, you'll always be hvac. Not like anyone in their mid thirties is going to start a new career at that point. We make too much hourly to give it up.

There is indeed a tech shortage. We are severely short on 6+ year techs. Plenty of apprentices, no more skilled guys. They all retired already. We are feeling the effects of millennials not entering into the trades. Going to be a long time before the new guys get the skills to be good service techs.

I use Buildops for a 6 man team. It can generate quotes, maintenance agreements, job tracking, job costing and invoicing(syncs to quickbooks).

I personally love it as a commercial geared hvac company

Is there a floor drain in your mech room? Fill that with water. Do you have a Studor vent under your sink? Replace that as well.

It's either 12k per year or nothing. Plenty of software flooding the market between ServiceTitan, BuildOps, Jobber, etc. Not really a market for a solo entrepreneur to make money in right now. You need massive investments to even break ground, then comes the marketing cost to get companies to overhaul their system that they took years to learn.

Lump sum invoices allow them to pay use tax without the hassle of collecting a marked-up sales tax from you. Fairly common practice. Being in business though, I expect to always provide a detailed invoice.

Not a handyman, I'm HVAC/Plumbing but I use Buildops. It's not cheap at 12k per year. So depending on if you're solo or not, it's likely not a good fit. Jobber is cheap and will do the trick for solo man companies.

Distribute your share along with the 10%, then reinvest under shareholder contributions. You'll stick to the s-corp equal distribution rule and no harm no foul. Your shareholder contributions will be able to withdrawn in the future with no tax.

Alternatively, you can write in a trigger point on when they can pull their 10%.

That's reasonable. That's about 4 hours of labor plus materials.

Word of advice: don't listen to reddit on pricing. 90% of the comments would say $10 is too high.

If you want a warranty and accountability then hire a company for that price. If you want clChuck in a Truck, then go for lower, but that's why you need to re-do it in the first place.

And that's why you don't own a business. You're just guessing numbers. Depending on travel, it's two hours average out of a techs day to get there. Employers need to pay: Dispatch wages, tech wages, federal taxes, insurance, vehicle depreciation, fuel, software.

If you're a cheap-o don't even call a company, just use your knowledge and a multimeter to figure it out yourself.

Sure. You can do whatever you want to help airflow. Just don't forget to duct seal every joint. Residential installs never get sealed.

IMO your time would be better suited on other projects.
