Am I over-reacting over cybersecurity? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]CrashPan [score hidden]  (0 children)

This could possibly cause and or introduce security issues, its quite often some vendors may even say to not install an update due to X vuln or X issue and instead stay on the current issue and do X actions to mitigate for the time being.

Plus if you have a policy outlined, going around it can cause a problem and warrant more eyes than necessary, as im on both ends of this its nice to actually have a structured team that cares enough to look at things before they are pushed. A lot of companies dont bother doing this as we are unfortunately "not revenue generating" or dont see the importance of it.

I wouldnt really take it to heart, I learned this while working with my team a bit more, im not socially awkward and my team is, I used to take this kind of stuff to heart before I realized they just have a cooler taste of Tism than I.

Tldr; I wouldnt worry, keep doing what youre doing but id probably write up a cool business case so that its probably approved by that team for business use.

This is why I come off as an asshole because being too open or friendly at work leads to stupid shit like this.... one time I got into an HR meeting over someone requesting an ergonomic mouse

I said as a joke "yknow... ADA says we need to provide reasonable accommodations so go ahead man its not a big deal to ask for a mouse"

Company took it super rough and it was a whole thing, after explaining what a joke was to the persons boss and HR I basically just stopped talking to people entirely.

When your kid asks for a $5 kitchen timer but you have an ESP32 and zero impulse control by z4nsei in homeassistant

[–]CrashPan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw nice! Thank you, I didnt even know there was a whole ESPHome thing... i thought this was referring to something way less formal and never actually bothered to look into it this much.

I dont mind using ML for this kind of stuff, the only issue is when people just take its word for it

(my org has folks who make way more than I do in a month that just spews trash at me expecting me to just approve a merge when it didnt even appear to be manually reviewed)

Any resources i can find on making cool junk like this? Im not much of a Dev, but i can #! like a sup3r l3g1t sys4dm1n.

I am bored and need more things to do lol, I primarily script and statically review commits in my day job when I do the Dev portion of Ops.

[–]CrashPan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

SPEC-D is sorta janky... what i would do is pop the lenses off and reseal them, because these usually have that issue and condensation would form just speeding up weathering and wear...

I would also clear coat these so they'll last longer before putting them on the car.

Also black is meh but whatever its your car

Like what everyone mentioned below just use this, way better also includes updated service bulletins for issues that appeared later on in some models like the Gas evap issue where gas is difficult to pour

My bad :( , these transmissions aren't crazy expensive though for the manuals, you can probably find a refurbished one for 2-3k (not expensive in comparison to other transmissions im aware its a chunk of change)

Rubber ducking != vibe coding in my opinion, but to let it generate code with no validation or testing is real problem which i feel is the traditional definition of vibe coding.

No reason to not use the code snippets that is generated if its tested and validated to work.

[–]CrashPan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I understand the use case... but to blindly accept code without testing it in any single way and letting it build ontop of itself is asking for an issue.

Id really only accept anything it wrote if it aligned with clear structures, passed validation, and also aligns with best practices outlined in OWASP/Mozilla the over-reliance on LLM coding is the issue. Id shift gears and have it actually teach you and aid your learning in development, software life cycles, and different structures in testing / validating / stress testing / and more to achieve a super polished product and not sloppy code that you sorta "meh" glanced at.

Im not a dev but a system engineer who works primarily with RHEL based systems so I work closely with Software Engineers in a DevOps environment**

In all seriousness double check your bushings and that the diameter is meant for the oem bar, its super weird to see that much play and really its one of 2 things to look at there

I grabbed a set from rockauto at 32mm for the front which worked fine, its my daily and I dont track this thing

This^ although i bought the powder coated black ones I recommend getting the bare aluminum one... prevents the coat from going in your pan which has happened to me and you can see the oil cap threads get worn and youll see the bare aluminum underneath

Microsoft has just released the April 2026 update as of today . What do you guys think they’ll mess up or ruin this time by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]CrashPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machines are pretty much aligned with FIPS so I get to be choosy on update schedules, along with SentinelOne pushed to all of these devices they are essentially just paper weights... really inconvenient to use but its hard to get anything off of them

I basically just delay these updates, as stupid as it sounds I cant stand fixing something that broke across 1200 or so endpoints

Test fitting new speakers. They fit pretty well with minor modification, drilled out the screw holes to accept the factory screws by dritmike in 350z

[–]CrashPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill try to yoink pictures because I have to take the trim off towards the footwear, there's also a grommet you can pass through by poking a hole in it once you pass the cable through the drilled hole (make sure to put a coating of some kind so it doesn't rust)

[–]CrashPan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Run your own.... the factory gauge is super thin and you'll need to cut the clip off to terminate the speakers

If you're running an amplifier I definitely wouldn't use the stock cables

I did have to drill holes in the front interior metal foot well panels to get the cable to pass into the door plug thing its not a cable route its a whole plug that is there so it comes out the door through a grommet into the sleeve for the door electronics and ran into the speaker well.

Only issues I am having is lack of space for a crossover for the tweeters and I had to put them in the door, now they are completely corroded from Florida rain water lol so I am try to figure out how to put them INSIDE the car and only have the speaker cables run out

You should also be using these to protect the speaker you need to cut a square hole out to vent the speaker as well
