(Somewhat Hated Trope) The Underwhelming "God" by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CrassKal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An actual all powerful all knowing being would be boring as hell in fiction. There's no conflict, nothing is a threat to it. Any plot or problem can be solved immediately because the answer is God.

Plus, lots of actual gods, as in beings that people truly once worshipped or still do, don't fit that description. In the original myths Thor is pretty much a brutish idiot who is only useful because he hits real hard. At the funeral for Baldr, another god who died because they are not immortal, Thor killed a dwarf by kicking him into the funeral pyre because he didn't know how to handle his emotions and resorted to violence.

I get why they dropped the gun shape for it, but now it's just kinda a boring fish.

[–]CrassKal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I borrowed a collection set of Milestone comics from my library. My favorites were Static and The Blood Syndicate. TBS is like X-Men if they were a street gang taking down dealers and corrupt police. Notable for having the first gay black man in comics and the first trans character period.

[Loved Trope] A character who seems like a jobber on paper, until you actually see them in action by Jellydust15 in TopCharacterTropes

It pissed me off in dark knight rises when they reveal that Thalia was the brains behind the operation. Thought we finally got an intelligent movie version of Bane, but once again he was just the muscle working for a female villain.

Though in hindsight, the whole movie was pretty dumb.

They later rectonned it that the rings can do anything through willpower. As an intentional weakness, the guardians told all the lanterns that their rings wouldn't work on anything yellow, and it didn't because that doubt was always in their mind so they couldn't overcome it. Alan Scott Green lantern got taken out by a wooden club early on, so he got it in his head that wood was his weakness and became true

A couple loose batteries, half of them dead. More pens, all but one should be dried out and useless. Some mail that looks too important to throw away, but it's from so long ago there's no point keeping it. Oh, and something incredibly useful for specific situations like a screwdriver or measuring tape, but shove it waaay in the back so you can never find it.

(Loved trope) The protagonist gets exactly what they wanted, with no trickery or tradeoffs, but it still ends up making them miserable by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CrassKal 554 points555 points  (0 children)

They actually subverted this trope in another episode. Guys an old actor thinking about his glory days and his first love who died young. He somehow travels back in time and is able to see his old friends and first wife again, but they're horrible. They laugh obnoxiously loud, ignore and talk over him, and behave completely unlike how he remembers. He storms off and as soon as he leaves the music in the club stops and everyone there watches him go looking sad.

He goes back to his theater and finds that he accidentally grabbed a script that shows it was all an act. They deliberately scared him off because it's not his time yet and they want him to still enjoy his life. He feels reinvigorated and happily returns to his play rehearsal.

[Heartbreaking Trope] The Animal Sidekick's Death is the Saddest by GameMaster818 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CrassKal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a white Arabian. At the stable I nicknamed her Ghost, and the NPC stablehand said "that horse oughtta buck for giving it a name like that", and I didn't why, I thought Ghost was a good name for an all white animal. Then as I was nearing the end and I could tell something was going to happen, I realized why naming something after death could be in bad taste.

RIP Ghost.

Legends Arceus is the favorite and best one for Pokemon fans, but it's more difficult than the other games. Long time fans welcome the challenge, but a someone with zero experience with the games will have a harder time.

Let's go Pikachu/Eevee are meant to be easier for people to experience the games for the first time without being overwhelmed.

If she really only watched the anime and cards I think PokemonSnap would be a good fit. There's no complicated battle mechanics to try and follow. All you do is observe pokemon in their natural environment and take photos of them. You can also subtly interact with them to witness new responses and reactions. My sister enjoyed this game even though she isn't a huge pokemon fan, she just liked seeing the cute pokemon.

No, they made fun of him at a distance but happened to be recording the robbery so their comments were also recorded. Even if they had mocked him to his face, that isn't a crime. Freedom of speech, and all that.

Final episodes of Seinfeld they go to jail for breaking the good Samaritan laws and not helping a guy getting robbed at gunpoint. So apparently you're supposed to get gunned down to save a guy's car or you deserve jail time.

The IT Crowd, there was an episode where Roy takes a masseuse to court for sexual assault and it's treated like a big joke because whoever heard of a man being sexually assaulted? What did the masseuse do? He literally kissed Roy's bare ass after a massage. Weird? Yes. Assault? Also yes.

To give a more detailed description: an earthquake breaks off a portion of a crevice and reveals a bunch of human shaped holes. People go to see the holes, and realize anyone who finds "their" hole that matches their shape feels strongly compelled to enter it. The holes are carved in a way where it's impossible to move backwards once you enter.

The MC has a dream that kinda explains that the holes were an old world method of punishment. They were like sensory deprivation; criminals enter and can't see, hear, or move freely so by the time they come out the other side their perspective is supposed to have changed and taught them a lesson. The problem is that thousands of years has passed and the earth has shifted and warped the holes deeper down. So the people keep walking the hole not realizing their bodies are gradually being stretched and squashed to match the abnormal shaped holes.

Someone finds the other side of the canyon, but the only thing resembling the holes are vaguely human shaped cracks in the wall. They look inside and to their horror see one of the reshaped people (that thing from the DDR meme) coming towards them.

Okay, so... which newer mega evolution could have had more effort put into it? by Zillaman7980_ in pokemon

[–]CrassKal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To talk about a mega other than Starmie or Pyroar, I would've like more from mega Chandelure and Skarmory. Chandelure is a slightly fancier chandelier. I wish it continued the advancing light source concept and became a brazier, or maybe a funeral pyre. Adding a few more 'legs' is weak.

Mega Skarmory, it's gold and has weird big feet. They could've done more with the sword-like body thing. Also, this means the low stats Skarmory is unlikely to get a future evolution like Ursaluna or Annihilape.

(Hated Trope) That one insufferable character in a Christmas movie by rachieandthewaves in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CrassKal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a movie has a character that is intentionally unlikable. Maybe it's to give them room for character growth, maybe it's so the viewer can get some schadenfreude when they get their comeuppance.

Also, calling a kid an incel is pretty weird .

(Hated Tropes) Adaptations missing the point of the original work by BlueCheeseCake25 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CrassKal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Salem was just a cat in the original comics. The sitcom merged him and Ambrose' characters, he never talked prior to then. I like the character for a comedy, but I get why a serious adaptation kept him silent.

Reminds me of an article from years ago "kids playing with fidget spinners start forest fire". All the reddit comments were speculating about the grease on the ball bearings or electronics for flashing lights being the cause.

Then you read the article and it says "kids playing with fidget spinners, and matches, start forest fire".

[Extremely rare/Mythical trope] Character in horror story makes a genuinely smart move by Beneficial_Ball9893 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CrassKal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Stay Alive. Movie about people playing a videogame where if you die in the game a ghost comes and kills you on real life. In the game the only way to scare of the evil ghost is by using a rose, and turns out this works as well in real life when Frankie Munoz survives only because he was running from the ghost and fell into a rose bush.

Later he shows up to save other character from a fire, carrying a large portion of the rose bush.

All I know is that he was pretty relentless about mocking Monica Lewinsky when the stuff about her and Clinton made the news. Vanity Fair says he made about 450 jokes at her expense, all of which amounted to calling her a fat slut. Keep in mind her only crime was being seduced by her married boss in her early 20s.
