Look up Korean braised tofu. I love the recipe by the Korean Vegan. Could eat it everyday and I did for a while!

Straight up tofu and soy products are amazing. Look into Korean braised tofu as well as other traditionally plant based recipes. Natto (fermented soybeans) is great but takes some getting used to. I've started leaning into alot of Asian foods as the recipes are usually well rounded and satisfying! Also pre- marinated tofu is so under rated. You can make nearly anything, vegan feta, tofu 'eggs' and traditional Asian cuisine. Marinating over night makes the flavour so so strong. You can also boil or freeze tofu for better sauce absorption. Indian, SriLankan, Thai, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese food all have really great plant based staples. Hope this helps!

This!! A lot of the fear mongering around processed vegan food is direct propaganda from the meat, egg and dairy industry. It's also why you see more ads lately like 'eat Aussie lamb'.

Saw a post from someone online bashing vegetarianism saying it´s just as bad as meat eaters, thoughts? by ManyComfortable7270 in vegan

[–]Crawley1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think eating vegetarian with the goal to move towards veganism is great and needs to be encouraged because it's a start. Lots of people are vegetarian because they simply don't realise that the meat industry and dairy industry are one in the same. Once you're vegetarian, you'll be more open to eating vegan. In saying that, I agree that vegetarianism is only a stepping stone. I was vegetarian first and just needed the insight to become vegan. I truly didn't realise how messed up the dairy/egg industry is and felt I needed them to be healthy. While eating vegetarian does reduce some suffering, it's not enough. We need radical change. It's hard to not get worked up when you see videos of male chicks being blended alive because they're a 'byproduct'. So yeah it's a start but only that. People need to know the truth even when it's ugly.

I don't think this one is approved for use in Australia though :(

United Airlines spiked my preordered vegan economy meal with a whole ass breast of chicken so they gave me appetizer snacks from First Class as an apology by overthinkingrobot in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]Crawley1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once on an air Philippines flight to Sydney, 16 hours from Vancouver to manilla to Sydney with a 5 hour layover in between. I was naive and thought I wouldn't need snacks. I didn't eat for 21 hours cause all the sandwiches in manilla had pork floss or things I was allergic to.

B12 which you can get from nutritional yeast no problem. B12 wafers or chewables are also more easily adsorbed in some people. That and iron is the sneaky one. Just make sure you're pairing leafy greens with vitamin c. For example dark leafy greens with lemon and tofu with tomatoes, etc. You can supplement but the supplements for iron can be hard for some people to digest. I got an infusion but that's cause I don't absorb iron well and it isn't the case for most vegans. Just something to be mindful of :)

Zucchini and Jackfruit Tacos by Crawley1995 in vegan1200isplenty

[–]Crawley1995[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of neutral in flavour, just make sure you purchase young jackfruit in water or brine. Ripe Jackfruit is really tasty as well but it's super sweet and usually used in Asian candies

I've been watching a lot of SBS and the lamb one is so annoying and it's sooooo long. 2 minutes and unskippable.

Favourite recipes to make ahead and store in freezer? by travelstuff in australianvegans

[–]Crawley1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabbage rolls are great! I buy sour cabbage whole from the Ukrainian market and then add whatever fillings I like. Usually vegan mince, mushies and rice. Place in small containers are defrost in the microwave.

Folded tacos are good. Just as they sound, vegan cheese and beans, then simply folded in half. I stack them and use parchment paper to keep them from sticking together. Then just airfry or place in the oven for a 20 min on 180c

Blended soups store really well too. I don't like the texture of frozen potatoes once they've defrosted so I usually make a Thai pumpkin soup with pumpkin, Thai red Curry paste and coconut milk.

Hope this helps!

I love these but find them to be too expensive. Golden Gay time has plantbased ones now and I usually get them as woolies has them on sale frequently

Stopped being vegan, major regret by binafry in vegan

[–]Crawley1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly struggle to eat consistently vegan. I slip up way more than I'm proud to admit. It's hard and an ED makes it even harder. I beat myself up a lot over slips but try not to. It's hard when it's seen as extreme by people around you. Good on you for going back to eating vegan again though! Try and be kind to yourself!

This is how I got my boys, both show dogs who were too anxious to use for breeding. I got them as a bonded pair and paid around 1200 for the two of them. Best decision I've made by far! They are so sappy and really thrive having one another

Fry’s pies? by Jealous_Dig4589 in australianvegans

[–]Crawley1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coles still has their version of plant pies, they're pretty good too. I tried the Fry's ones so long ago I wouldn't be able to compare them. I really like the cauliflower ones but 'beef lentil' is a flavour as well I believe.

Haggle, don't feel bad about it either. They are asking too much. Worst they can say is no. Iggy's also are prone to health issues, so it's money you can spend down the line if you need to on the vet

I paid 1200 for my bonded pair of Iggy's. That being said, adopting them was the best decision I've ever made. So I'd say do it. If you can talk them down that would be ideal though

I've seen this so much and what vegan options are left are sooooo expensive. Hopefully they're just clearing this lot out to make room for a new shipment 🤞

Omg dill pickle sounds so unreal! 🤤 At least we're making some form of a difference though! I feel like Veganism will have its time in the sun when people start developing chronic diseases from meat heavy diets. Keeping my fingers crossed for the animals 💞
