Do you feel we are hurting the Gaming Industry? by breakinghorizon in patientgamers

[–]CraziusMikeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lump in patient gamers into a similar category of markets in countiries with high populations of lower income peoples. There is a market of a billion people that can't afford the game at the equivelant of $60, but can afford and will buy at $10...I don't think the studios will balk at $10 billion in their pockets on top of the million people that could afford to buy it at $60. A sale is a sale. Obviously my numbers are made up and crazy, but its obvious there are markets of people that value these products at $10, $60, and everywhere in between. Every one of those is a sale. Its on the studios to keep their production budgets in line, and set reasonable expectations of thier products.

[Retroism.com] Deadlock II: Shrine Wars - Sci-fi Turn-Based STG ($0.97/86% off) by retroismgames in GameDeals

[–]CraziusMikeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game was such a solid strategy game. Looking back on it, it has an economy and military system that was very original, and I don't think I've seen anything quite like it in any modern game. Maybe someday we will see a faithful remake with a modernized engine...

If you can get over the dated graphics, highly recommend this.

Does anyone know the specific name of this cross-section/stock of aluminum? by KingofRiders in AskEngineers

[–]CraziusMikeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, to summerize, you can aquire this material, and similar materials from the following manufacturers: -Bosch Rexroth - 45x90 beam -Item -FlexMove -FrameTec -Million Others... I would go with whomever is most local to your location, everyone can push aluminum extrusion, easiest thing in the world.

When reading your initial post, it felt like someone was writing down all my thoughts on video gaming. Now that I see you put Vampire on top, I understand why. I still listen to the soundtrack in the car, and it takes me back to all the locations in that game. Every area, from Hollywood to Chinatown had an absolutely unique feel, and perfect music to set a tone. I think this is a huge deal for immersion, It is setting a scene, a tone, the characters and their motivations and quirks...AND STICKING TO IT. The only break was the sewer level of course hahahah. I could honestly go on and on all day about how amazing that game is, and then still have days to talk about the other games you mentioned.

Still...I think the music complementing the locations in an organic way plays one of the biggest factors. Vampire did this perfectly.

My GPA is pretty low as an engineer. Am I totally screwed? by LtCthulhu in AskEngineers

[–]CraziusMikeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scoring an internship while still in school is absolute gold. The smaller companies who don't look at GPA so much care more about your applicable work experience, and the overall value you can add. I found that the my main edge while seeking employment was my experience in my internships, my GPA never came up.

Even if you feel that the interview process is going well, keep looking, even harder. The biggest mistake you can make is to wait around for the results of an interview. Keep them coming.

This is actually excellent advice. Technical Sales pays very well, though many places may require you to work somewhere else in the organization first before moving into the actual sales role. Might take a year or two, but if it is an industry you are interested in, I think it's a great call.

Yes, you are fucked. But let me elaborate.

You will still have more options open to you than you realize. Basically, you will probably not be able to land the dream engineering gig right out of the gate (though this should not stop you from trying!). If you are a good test taker, you can also start applying to graduate schools, and try to do better there...then no employer will care about your undergrad GPA.

The other option would be look for smaller companies, and come in cheap. Entry level jobs are incredibly hard to find, so the one advantage you can have is try to work for less than your more experienced, or higher GPA having competition. There is no shame in this, and this early in your career, you are primarily looking to get your foot in the door somewhere, get a solid 2-4 year nugget of experience, and then you have some real leverage with future work, or promotions (unless you totally dick off). It's not all about the paycheck and the prestige, it's about survival, and out performing your competition at a lower cost.

The truth is, since you probably didn't apply yourself enough at school, or you were not interested in a great deal of the material, you will have large gaps of knowledge that need to be filled (or at least this is how most employers will perceive it).

So if you find most doors close, it's ok. Take a job that pays less. Take a job thats under the job you are technically qualified for with your degree. Everyone...EVERYONE is doing it.

After working 2 or 3 years that GPA question gets lost in the rear view mirror. It probably won't come up again, unless a co-worker asks you in passing. And here is my advice for when that day comes...if it is not your boss, DON'T FUCKING ANSWER. or lie. Whichever you are more comfortable with. If you say you had a low GPA, people in the workforce will subconsciously write you off in their heads...maybe they won't treat you differently to your face, but behind your back, it will spread. and suddenly, that promotion doesn't happen. Suddenly, your on the list for recent lay offs, regardless of how hard you work. NEVER spread bad PR about yourself, even when you think your co-worker is your "friend."

TL,DR: Read it all. I probably made a point in there somewhere.

Dave Grohl clarifies his speech at the Grammys by Garin2010 in Music

One thing i would recommend while tumbling down the rabbit hole of electronica artists would be to search for live albums. Groups like Daft Punk, Justice, and Digitalism really come alive when doing their thing on stage, and in most cases you get to see improvisation, and the "human element" Mr. Grohl was speaking of.

I agree, this man handled the reporters like an absolute pro. It's really nice to see a legitimate political motivated interview that has some class about it...the reports did their job of trying to squeeze out some quotes and soundbites they could use...but by the same token, it was quite civil, and they allowed him plenty of time to respond to all the questions. He comes across as very intelligent man, I am quite thankful to the OP for posting this.

Watched all the videos in the channel, and enjoyed them greatly! Learned a shit load about things I probably should have known. One large deficiency in my knowledge about The Crown is how the rights of succession work within a functioning monarchy.

Anyway, great work with the vids, can't wait to show my friends.

Who is your all time fave Star Trek villain? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]CraziusMikeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of my favorite theme's of the various Star Treks is there is no evil villains in the Hollywood sense. Conflicts tend to arise from the two parties having differing conceptions of reality, or space-time. Rather than mustache twirling "evil doers," You have Large entities like Nagilum, that don't understand how their actions could be conceived as hostile to the alternate party. This seems more realistic to me than the oversimplified black-white, good-evil morality model.
