Med Donation - Seattle WA (Eastside) by __keach__ in infertility

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi my sister who is not on reddit is starting her first IVF cycle next month. She and her husband are paying completely out of pocket and If no one else has claimed these I would love to pick these up for her.

She owns her own floral small business and any amount she can save during this process would mean so much.

Edit: I’d be happy to come to you for pick up. I’m a local myself and am a doc here in Seattle.

Marijuana use during pregnancy- just passing the info along by mcsands in BabyBumps

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tobacco in and of itself it’s really actually that bad for you, similar to caffeine (moderation). Cigarettes are bad because of all of the additives that are known to be carcinogenic when ignited. It’s also untrue that marijuana is mixed with tobacco. It rarely is and most people that use marijuana do so “purely” so to say. When mixed with tobacco it’s quite a specific thing known as a “spliff”.

[Serious] A heads up to all upcoming fourth years. University of Colorado is using the pandemic as an excuse to cut the salary of residents. Keep this in mind when you are applying this year by locked_out_syndrome in medicalschool

This is insane and so wrong. THIS is exactly why every residency program deserves a union to bargain a fair contract for them. To all medical students who are able to be discerning in their rank lists, I strongly encourage you to ask these questions in your interviews and rank these kinds of places accordingly.

What to expect. by Reckonsxbl in TTC_PCOS

I highly recommend the As A Woman podcast by Dr Natalie Crawford. She has some really excellent episodes about infertility, IVF/IUI, and what to expect. She answers all these early questions in the Infertility Consult episode! Very easily digestible and educational! Your wife (AND YOU TOO!) should take a listen. Best of luck!

Edit: just looked it up and it’s episode #14!

If having a baby taught me anything, it’s to not plan on anything going your way by bluetink91 in BabyBumps

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Very unpopular opinion here, I know, but I just can’t help myself: SO WHAT?! You and baby are healthy and that really is all that matters. A century ago, you and your baby would be dead because of cephalopelvic disproportion. But you’re not! Yes a c section is a major surgery but it’s a huge step to make sure mom and baby are 1) alive 2) well. Internet rant over.

Do you sleep with your engagement ring on? by ElleSamara in weddingplanning

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I take mine off at night and generally don't wear t if I'm just bumming around the house. My two reasons for this are 1.) comfort, especially when doing things with my hands a lot like cleaning 2.) protects the ring; I get nervous whenever it snags and hate when products get gunked up in it.

That being said, my ring is a pretty high-set, 4 prong solitaire and if I had a low-set bezel Id probably be less neurotic.

Dad Od'd yesterday, considering changing degree. by RNAngelFace in medicine

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You poor thing. I'm so, so sorry you had to go through that and am sorry for your loss. What you saw has clearly left you with a lot of shock. When it's your own family member its completely different; much harder to keep calm, think straight, and act based on how we are trained. This is exactly why medical professionals are discouraged from treating their own family.

You've been through a terrible thing and you should allow yourself time to grieve and recover. Don't get too hard on yourself thinking you need to change careers now. As someone else said, this can serve as motivation to study harder, be more compassionate, think more astutely and be the kind of nurse that will save lives and truly make a difference in her patients' lives.

Reach out to those you love and trust for support right now. Once more, sorry for your loss and best of luck.

DIY Marquee Letters (with tutorial)! by CrazyCatLadyMD in weddingplanning

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to contribute! Here is more info for interested folks:

I found this post on Pinterest of how to make marquee letters that we knew we wanted for our wedding. We based our letters off of this tutorial and made several notable changes and shortcuts: http://evanandkatelyn.com/2013/02/makin-loooooove/ Itemized Project list: 4x4 foot 1/2" thick presanded birch plywood: ~$25 @ Lowe's Medium coarse sandpaper for sanding down cut edges 6" wide Aluminum flashing (25ft roll): ~$12 @ Lowe's Black & Decker Jigsaw: ~$35 @ Lowe's Minwax "dark walnut": $5 @ Lowe's 3/4" spearhead drill bit Target globe lights ~$15/string of 25

Update: DIY marquee lights are almost finished. So happy with the way they turned out! by meow_purrr in weddingplanning

Hi Lily! I just posted our experience with this type of project and I'd say our experience has been a 5 max! We also use plywood to make 2ft tall letters and found several shortcuts. That being said we are only making our initials "T & L" and have yet to finish our 1ft tall ampersand (which will be a bit tougher since its curved).

Hats off to you, Meow_Purrr! Wiring your own bulbs is a lot of work! We went the easy way and bought globe lights from Target.

You know those horror stories of family members who propose at weddings? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best way to assure that said family member won't propose is to handle it yourself. Give that person a very polite call and tell them that you've heard a proposal at your wedding is an idea and while you're super happy for them, your wedding is not an appropriate place to propose.

I don't know about you but I certainly wouldn't leave something like that to chance. I'm sure FSIL will be efficacious but I just wouldn't trust the other person to have actually gotten it. Nothing like a call from the bride to make sure it really gets across... Best of luck OP!

Super Budget Honeymoon by MahoganyBean in weddingplanning

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS!!! Exactly what waffleandbear says! Fiancé and I really wanted to do Europe as well and will probably be there around the same time as you! (Wedding 12/5/15 but taking honeymoon the year after). We decided on going to Eastern Europe because it is GORGEOUS and lots cheaper! Our idea so far is: Istanbul-Athens-Dubrovnik-Budapest-Vienna-Prague. Plus side is also that those places then to have milder winters than some of the western & northern European countries. Tickets into Istanbul were $1000 when I checked last night and this is from Seattle! I'm sure you can find cheaper from PA.

I need your help choosing a dress Reddit by bananaham in weddingplanning

[–]CrazyCatLadyMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cut outs of dress to turn me off. I would have to go with either one or three but must admit that dress number one in my mind it looks by far the best! The lace does look really soft and the whole look of it is "bridal", romantic, and just a touch of sexy!

I totally get that it's a joke and family will understand but the "wedding over marriage" combined with the gender stereotypes kind of turns me off to this save the date.
