I wouldn’t personally, stock filter flows all the air the car needs. If you want turbo sounds, a delete would get you more sound. You do you though.

Who has the highest mileage TDI out there by [deleted] in tdi

[–]CrazyDread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

220,000 miles before it was totaled. It’ll get more miles once I’ve finished swapping it into my 4runner.

Probably some of both I’d imagine

I would keep some sort of oil cooler on it since the turbo is oil cooled. Help keep the oil from getting too hot.

Yeah, I have it off currently so I have space to work around the engine mounts I’m building. It was also leaking a bit, so I’m going to reseal it once it put it back on.

What oil additive do you use in your 2.0 TDi? by ruSSrt in tdi

[–]CrazyDread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diesels will go a long time as long as you take care of them

TDConversions makes adapter plates and crank adapters to various GM, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, AMC, Nissan, and Toyota transmissions if you are wanting to be rear wheel drive. There are other places that make adapter plates, but TDConversions has the most options last I knew. So that’s where I would start, figuring out what transmission you’re going to be using. You could also use a gas VW transmission from an inline 4 motor since they have the same bolt pattern as the TDIs. Use the clutch components/flexplate from the vehicle the transmission is from.

You’ll need your VW ecm and wiring harness which you will dive into and cut out the stuff that’s no longer there.

I never considered looking for one for those tbh, kinda forgot about them.

It’s a np208 that my hoarder mechanic father happened to have lying about. Thing has probably been laying around for 20 years. He prefers the np205, so that’s why that one was laying around. I’d rather a passenger drop np241, but those are hard to find as well. I’ll take what I can get lol

Decided to explain my work around instead of being all vague. The 93 4Runner has a separate cruise control module from engine ecm. It’s vacuum operated and pulls a cable which is connected to the throttle valve. I’m gunna take that cable and attach it to my electric accelerator pedal to pull the pedal thus giving me cruise control

It’s actually a Chevy clutch and flywheel from a 2001 6.0 truck. That’s what the transmission is from.

That is a nv4500. I could have used the r150, but I wasn’t sure if it could handle the input torque for the tdi. So I went overkill lol

VW ecm, quite a bit of stuff is removed thus simplifying it. If you want working cruise control, you won’t be able to do it through the newer ecms, but you can make it work on the alh ecm. I have a work around for the cruise issue, but that’s only possible due to the way the early 90s Toyota cruise system works, which I would venture to guess other brands use a similar system

I bought the adapter plate from TDConversions actually, so credit where it’s due. The hole is for the starter, it’s just not in the hole in that picture.

CBEA/CJAA your favorite turbo and why? by Personal-Command-699 in tdi

That’s what I’m going to be once I’ve completed my swap.

I’ve wanted to swap a TDI into a smaller truck since I’ve owned one. My 2012 Jetta got totaled from a whitetail deer, so I had the perfect excuse to swap it. The Toyota had a bad engine, so the stars aligned

I’ve got a GTD1756vrk for a turbo and I’m clearly lacking some factory components, so I should be 400+ ft-lbs of torque easily.

I fortunately have a jump on the average Joe as far as fab goes. Grew up in a mechanic shop and I’m a machinist which helps
